I tried a soy nog (SOY GOOD, or something like that) last week. It wasn't too bad, but a bit different. I wouldn't mind drinking soy milk but I find it a bit of a strange starchy taste (which isn't that bad) but also very sweet which I don't really like at all. What kind/brand do you drink? Is it sweet? I guess what I'd like to know from anyone here is there a non-sweet soy milk?katie ta achoo said:milk has always made me feel a little funky.
cow milk is for baby cows, just like how human milk is for baby humans. (yeah, the whole hundreds of years we've been drinking cow milk speech.. I don't wanna hear it! I hear it enough at home)
Yeah, I still do some cheeses, but in moderation. I won't go totally nuts with the extra-extra cheese pizza, but I will have a slice of normal pizza.
But soy.. SO YUM! Soy nog, during december.. YUM!!
Vanilla soy milk to make french toast? DOUBLE YUM!
a big glass o' soy to go with a big bag o' almonds?
MMMMM!
I loves me the soy.
Lau said:I haven't drunk a glass of milk since I was infant school age. If I drink anything dairyish, I get a disgusting taste in my throat for ages. As I'm asthmatic, I don't have an awful lot of dairy, because it's supposed to be mucus forming, and it doesn't make me feel great. I've always preferred my coffee black, anyway. I make a white sauce with milk on occasion, and very rarely have ice cream.

Cheese doesn't agree with me any more, which is a shame. That's not to say I've stopped eating cheese it's just that I seem to have problems digesting it.
Your mothers milk is, I'd imagine, very good for you but, again I'd imagine, she's not a cow so the comparison isn't without flaws!mouchoir said:...even our mothers produce milk!...

All other milk is, imo, complete crap. By this I mean pasteurized milk.
My theory behind this is as follows:
- milk curdles when it hits the stomach. If there is any other food there, the curdled milk insulates the foodstuffs from your stomach acids, resulting in poor digestion.
- pateurized milk has had it's useful enzymes (lactase and lipase) removed, which does not allow most human stomachs to properly digest milk.
- The lack of said enzymes allows for very poor mineral and vitamin absorption, including most importantly, Calcium.
- Homogenized milk, in which the fat molecules are pulverized to the point of not separating from the rest of the milk, results in those molecules being small enough to be absorbed through the villae of the small intestine - increasing dramatically the amount of denatured fat and cholesterol in your body - you gain more fat drinking this than from pure cream.
Quite simply, imo, pasteurized milk is the worst food ever.
I use soy, or it sparingly in recipes.
Same here(I mean, about the drinking Horizon thing)... and skim alll the way!!Moof1904 said:Years ago I started getting worried about all of the antibiotics, hormones, and junk in milk, so I gave up drinking it. Recently, though, I've rediscovered milk through the Horizon brand that doesn't have any of that stuff (presumably). Not that this is the only option for presumably organic milk, it's just what I've migrated to...

but anyways. i grew up drinking Whole milk, i hated milk as a kid. but when i went away to college i started drinking 1% Milk, and i started to enjoy milk again. however, i now have moved on and only drink Soy milk, be it vanilla, chocolate or plain Soy milk.
i was just curious as to what everyone's preference in milk was, and do you just drink it randomly when you feel like it? or is it always with a certain meal or with a certain food?
now i'm going to go enjoy some Chocolate Soy Milk 😀
