I recently went out of town for vacation, and needed to maximize battery life because of limiting charging opportunities. I am using an iPhone 11 Pro Max. I kept my phone in low battery mode the entire trip and WOW. This thing lasted for like 2 days at a time if not more. Maybe I could've even gotten 3 days. I'm super impressed with this feature, and wanted to throw it out there for those who don't utilize it much or know much about it.

I plan on keeping my iPhone in low battery mode all the time from now on. It is too good!!!

If you want to make full use of your phone, you shouldn’t keep it in low battery mode. Low Power Mode is for emergencies when you can’t make use of a charger. It isn’t meant to use all the time, so you brag about how long you can go without charging your phone.

I haven't noticed any missing features...

False. (And I question How you even derived to that conclusion). That’s not accurate at all. Low power mode simply reduces the screen brightness, and throttles the CPU response. Low power mode is not just for emergencies, I use low power mode all the time, simply for battery conservation and it’s hardly any discernible differences in terms of performance with a slightly dimmer display.

See the link above from another member who also contradicted your post, it explains it in its entirety.

Thanks for the heads up. I never think to use it, but there are many times when it would be useful.

We go away in our campervan a lot and sometimes it would have been better to stick it in low power mode then. One over nighter isn’t a problem (charge it in the car’s USB when driving there), but if away for a few days it can be more tricky.

What i said wasn’t false. And what CDM posted does not contradict what i said.

When is low power meant to be used (per Apple)?

“Low Power Mode reduces the amount of power that your iPhone uses when the battery gets low.”

According to Apple, it is meant to be used when the battery gets low. And if one’s battery get low, that probably means one doesn’t have immediate access to a charger. The feature automatically turns off at 80%, which is another sign by Apple, that said feature wasn’t intended to be used 24/7, if the quote i posted wasn’t enough.

I stated the intended purpose of the feature correctly to the OP. I also correctly stated that he would not have full use of the phone’s ability while in said mode, which was also accurate.

The fact that many people here (and elsewhere) see fit to use the feature 24/7 doesn’t mean that that is somehow the actual intent of the feature creation by Apple.

My previous post was not false.

Argue with someone else who was actually was wrong.

I've turned the 80% thing off in the settings because it's annoying.

The only time I use low power mode is the same situation OP described. I don’t see the point of using it daily. I always make it through the day and I don’t even have a pro. Why limit the phone

Performance is fine. I wouldn’t have ever guessed lower performance. I haven’t noticed that at all. I’m not saying it isn’t affected, I’m just saying I haven’t been able to tell

My XS Max is jailbroken and now that I have a lot of tweaks I tend to keep it on low power mode while I’m working. I have to charge my phone at least twice a day to keep it from dying.

Exactly. I've used it on my 8 Plus for the past couple of years without noticing any issue at all.

On my Samsung Galaxy S8+ and my Nexus 5 before that, battery saver always caused trouble with notifications not appearing, etc. On my iPhone X I have used it quite a bit and never noticed any issues. So, it seems it's quite well implemented. It does make a significant difference to battery life. I don't normally have it set, though.

Ultimately if someone doesn't notice or care about the slight decrease in performance and functionality then they can make use of it pretty much as much as they like. Apple doesn't necessarily mean for it to be used all the time or too often mainly because they want the full power of the device to be available to the user, but using it all the time shouldn't cause any issues or anything like that.

I along with others on here disagree. Why is it only for emergencies?

Regardless of what anyone says, you will do what you will. You always ask questions / advice and then do your own thing.

Read my previous post. It is for times when you aren‘t able to charge your device. Some of those times include emergencies. I shouldn’t have to explain myself again.

If you want to keep it on all the time, go ahead. I really don’t care anymore.

Don't the Samsung phones have a feature where you can have like 1% battery and if you turn on super low power mode it'll last a week lol. I'm exaggerating, but I've heard they have some pretty impressive technology regarding low power mode

And here I am with a Huawei phone that can last 2 days without me doing any low power mode... ;)

Anyway, OP's experience simply shows that current smartphones have plenty of power for general use, to the point that lowering its performance doesn't affect user's perception of experience much. The only thing the user might be missing is that push notifications may not come, and apps may not refresh in background. With Apple's great job in improving the batter life of iPhones in the 11 lineup, I hope the trend continues with the 12 and forward so normal users can experience 2-day battery life or more without anything special.

Those ultra low power mode basically turns your smartphone into a dumbphone. It's really for super emergency use only, and you can only make phone calls and receive SMS. Majority of apps and functions are disabled. On some phones, the screen is even turned into black-n-white.

Doesn’t low Power Mode turn off photo syncing to iCloud? Also doesn’t it prevent background application updates? I was always under the impression that low power mode did reduce features to help save lower - along with shorter screen timeout and lower brightness.

I rarely use it because I get 2 days easy with my light usage. I rarely end my day under 80%.

I have used this mode when I knew I was going to be away from a charger for a long time. Now I’ll just bring my 10,000 mAh anker battery in my backpack if that’s the case.

There are certain features that are affected, as described at https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205234

Low power mode is a great feature dont be alarmed if using it everyday, if Apple doesnt concern of us in doing so then using the feature everyday wouldnt harm the phone

oh so there’s a catch. You see, this is why I like apple. Low power mode, to me, is the same phone just more battery. I don’t notice any changes. Samsung, low power could mean phone calls only. That’s annoying

Never used it in fairness as never needed to. Can see the appeal though if you are out all day or away for weekend and use it very little as it can last two days with light use.
