Doesn’t low Power Mode turn off photo syncing to iCloud? Also doesn’t it prevent background application updates? I was always under the impression that low power mode did reduce features to help save lower - along with shorter screen timeout and lower brightness.

I rarely use it because I get 2 days easy with my light usage. I rarely end my day under 80%.

I have used this mode when I knew I was going to be away from a charger for a long time. Now I’ll just bring my 10,000 mAh anker battery in my backpack if that’s the case.

Why does the word anker shows as an affiliate link when I am not signed in to forums but as a plain text when I am signed in ?

oh so there’s a catch. You see, this is why I like apple. Low power mode, to me, is the same phone just more battery. I don’t notice any changes. Samsung, low power could mean phone calls only. That’s annoying
Many Android phones have multiple level of power savings mode. Samsung has power saving option similar to iPhone low power mode (reduce performance, no background fetching). Obviously that will only add a few hours of battery life.

The one that was said to have the phone to last for a week is the ultra power saving mode, the dumb phone mode.

How interesting, never noticed this before! I always stay signed in (probably why I missed it). Anker is really good about affiliates if I remember right. They even pay people to test their stuff - so my guess is Macrumors and Anker have some agreement there? I don't know. Anker is a great battery/cable/case/etc company. I use a lot of their stuff.

I ran my phone in low power mode yesterday - didn't really notice much of a difference other than things like WhatsApp to my PC would often report that my phone was not connected to the network - or take a few seconds to start working. WhatsApp on the PC relies on a connection to the phone (sadly a lot of my extended family uses it).

The screen turned off way too quick for me. Apps that would notify me of updates - didn't (mail, chat apps, etc). iCloud Photos didn't update when I took photos of food and expected to see them on my iPad.

It made the phone not as usable for me so - I'll leave it off, but if I ever need a few hours or more of extra battery, it is nice to know that the feature exists.

I don't think you understand how low power mode works.

What? Why? I see nothing that @BasicGreatGuy said that wasn't correct. It does reduce the functionality of the phone, so much so that I found I couldn't use it normally (see post 28), and I'm a light user. MOST people won't want to run this all the time. It shuts off features to help preserve battery life. Most people will use this in situations where they can't charge their devices for long periods of time.

I'm missing something here?

The first time Low Power Mode came out, reviewers found it only gave a few hours extra battery life. I wonder if that is still the case today? I would imagine not because of the feature reduction. <shrug> ?

The biggest feature reductions that I can recall, other than slightly dimming the screen...is disabling background activity of all sorts including syncing, backup and push emails. Unless one depends on any of these, it's unlikely to be a big difference in the overall usage. (at least in my opinion)

I've turned the 80% thing off in the settings because it's annoying.
How? I don’t see that in settings

I do have a shortcut setup that I use sometimes to keep me permanently in low power mode. Is that what you’re taking about? You make it sound like there’s a switch in settings to keep low power mode on

I see. But that doesn’t stop the phone from turning off low power mode when it reaches 80% charge does it?

Ah I see now where the confusion is. It says something about stopping your phone from charging past 80% until you need it. This is absolutely not true though. I’ve had that feature turned on forever and my phone always charges to 100%. Either that feature is broken or Apple is lying about what it does.

I personally believe that Apple should add an ‘ultra power saving mode’, so that it lasts a week like a dumb phone in an emergency situation.

It requires a consistent charging habit for it to work. But like you, I've never gotten this to work... ever. :p

I believe the setting referred to here is the Settings --> Battery --> Battery Health --> Optimized Battery Charging.

Yeah, that 80% optimized charging setting is something different than the functionality that disables Low Power Mode when the battery charge reaches 80% or more (which doesn't have any options).

I used to use my XS Max in Low Power Mode, it was incredible.

The 11 Pro Max though in Normal Mode lasts far longer than the XS Max did in Low Power Mode, so I barely ever use Low Power Mode on my 11PM unless there is a power outage.

Out of curiosity, what shortcut are you using for that? I think at one point I played around trying to do something like that using automation to have Low Power Mode turn on when DND is enabled or disabled, so that it would sort of make sure a couple of times it gets enabled, if it isn't already

It looks like this, I hope this helps!

False. (And I question How you even derived to that conclusion). That’s not accurate at all. Low power mode simply reduces the screen brightness, and throttles the CPU response. Low power mode is not just for emergencies, I use low power mode all the time, simply for battery conservation and it’s hardly any discernible differences in terms of performance with a slightly dimmer display.

See the link above from another member who also contradicted your post, it explains it in its entirety.

Agreed. Low power is no longer for emergencies. I’m on low power mode right now. No problem

Yeah. I keep my 7 in low power mode basically all the time. Every few days I’ll turn it off so my photos can sync. Everything else works fine.

I've been running Low Power Mode on my 11 Pro Max for the last few days. Wow.... I sit at 100% FOREVER. I remember using Low Power Mode when it first came out and it really didn't do much of anything but this is astounding.

Really adds to standby battery life. Doesn't slow down the phone at all but ... overnight I have no % drain.

I'm ending my days in the 90s vs 80s. lol.

I can easily get 14 hours sot with low power mode on. I can game, do everything I normally would do. Saying you can’t use your phone when in that state is crazy talk.

Well what we're saying is that, with that mode on, photos don't sync to iCloud, iCloud backups don't happen, and some apps that require the phone to be on (WhatsApp) often report that the phone isn't on when it actually is - when using WhatsApp on the PC (requires the phone to be connected and on).

So it does affect some functionality. But for those that can live without that, it isn't an issue. There are others that I didn't list.

I've been running this mode for a couple days now.

I don't have the max but I noticed a drastic improvement with battery life as opposed to my X and XS when I got my 11 Pro. I love it.

Yeah it has to be connected to power for backups. I didn’t know that about WhatsApp, I don’t use it. I wouldn’t mind having the battery life of the11 replacement. At this point that’s all I’d want a new phone for.. but I’m ok with mine. I just need to last the day.

I haven't checked recently, but I believe I had backups that would happen with Low Power Mode enabled, since they would happen when the device is connected to power.

I did not think of that. Connected while having Low Power enabled. Thanks!

I've been running it on my 11 Pro Max - which, at the end of the day I'm almost always >80% --- and I'm shocked at how much battery life I have. Standby I have almost 0 loss, and end of day I was 90%+. lol.

Over time that's a huge reduction in battery usage and cycles.
