Isn't that still better than 1/100th of Android users with Android Wear watches?

:)

Per Apple's new product launch standards, the stated 2.3m pre-order figure is still relatively tame.

Similar to the original iPhone launch (which didn't exactly blow doors off it's initial pre-carrier subsidy sales goals), Apple Watch has tremendous opportunity for growth and expansion. The long term sales figures of the entire platform will be very telling over the the next 5 years.

Looks like I'll be passing on this generation then. June at the earliest is when any of them will be available, which is just too long after launch for my liking. May as well wait for the next one.

This is mostly driven by Wall Street analysts who are trying to justify their failed estimates.

Oh, is that how Wall Street analysts bring home their paychecks? By trolling internet forums? Makes me feel like a sucker for always having done that for free...

I have no desire to buy an apple watch. It would be way too much trouble for me to put on reading glasses every time I look at a one inch screen.

Funny. I have every desire to buy an apple watch. It will be no trouble to put reading glasses to look at such a piece of technology.

To each its own.

Great news it has been a success.
I am interested in one but will wait until is waterproof and can work independently from the iPhone so I can use swimming in the ocean and surfing.
So success will push R&D hard so hopefully in couple years Apple can achieve the above.

Of course, in order for the watch to be independent of the phone, it would be like the Samsung watch that requires an extra fee on the person's phone/data plan and a separate phone number. I don't want a watch with its own data plan and separate phone number I'm supposed to hand out to people or constantly have to remember to call forward my phone to my watch. Kind of defeats the purpose. Now, if they made it independent by letting me use something like Back to my Mac to go Back to my iPhone with watch functionality, that would be something I would like. But again, that would still require a data plan for the watch.

Saying U2 is not 'relevant' any more is like saying The Beatles were a fad.

U2 holds the world record for Grammys won by a band (22), and has sold 150 million records.

They may not be the it band of the moment, but a career that has endured since 1976, and a band that can still sell out stadiums, is hardly irrelevant.

Also, every time you open your iTunes app, the icon for artists is a silhouette of Bono singing!

No one is talking about the watch Bono is wearing. They aren't influential anymore.

WTF - these people have no idea. WTF would you pay this much for a re-designed digital watch, which is not even waterproof? You get stuck in a rain shower and its stuffed. People obviously don't think ahead and are brainless. Watch for all the people returning their watch because of water issues.

As I recall, it does handle water in a shower (didn't Tim Cook say he wears it in the shower?). But it shouldn't be used for something like swimming. If it can handle a shower, I wouldn't think rain should be a problem.

Not by a long shot.

Go look up initial sales of iPods and iPhones on release weekend.

Original iPhone did a small fraction of that.

He is talking about brand new products not updates

----------

That's really low production figures.

If they estimate 2.3M+ were pre-ordered, and Apple would be lucky to produce 2.5M by June, that means there will be severe backlogs into at least the mid-late summer.

He said produced IN JUNE. He is saying apple profuction could hit 2.5 million a month as early as June. Has nothing to do with fulfilling most all of the preorders.

----------

You expect everyone who owns an iPhone to get one? Really?

Might as well call every video game every made a failure as well.

Every DVD.

Everything.

Yeah this 1/10 complaint is crazy. Two plus million for the watch would be a huge opening number and put them on pace to easily sell the fifteen million watches they predicted to sell in 2015.

There are hundreds of millions of iPhones in use. Only one half of one percent preordered a watch. That does not mean that preorders has not gone well.

Apple wants to sell watches to about 2.5% of iPhone users in 2015. If they do it will be a huge success.

----------

When the iPhone was a new product, it sold 270,000 on its first day.

In 2002, Apple said it had only sold 600,000 total iPods, I think that includes all first and second generation iPods, so the first day sales could not have been anywhere near Apple Watch numbers.

Yeah this number would beat launch weekend numbers for the iPhone, the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4.

That person is basically pushing buttons. Like most Androidite commenters. It is IPX7, rain showers, even heavy ones, are AOK.

Could be - I don't know the posters here well so maybe he was just unaware. But I know what you mean about at least some people who, well, let's just say they are NOT Apple fans.

I find it to be at least a little amusing. I mean, based on their posts, they are every bit as much "anti-Apple fans" as the they accuse Apple fans of being.

I can see nice things in Android and Apple. Just happens that Apple fits what I like better. To each their own.

There are quite a few types of Apple "Fanboys" -
1. There is the ones you mentioned - those who stand by Apple because of the great experience they had.
2. There are those who got burned a few times, but are well situated into the Apple Ecosystem that they are a little more patient for launch day products. They are excited to try it out, but they aren't crazy. These people don't stand in lines.
3. There are those who are excited by whatever Apple makes and they order online because that's very convenient to them. They dislike the idea of standing in line for weeks to get a launch day device.
4. There are those who are so excited and impatient to get their hands on a launch day Apple device that they will camp outside stores to get their Apple product.
5. There are those who swear by Apple. These people have every single quality available in the world. They launch brutal mind attacks on anyone (yes even fellow Apple Fanboys) who dare criticize Apple. These folks are the only Apple Fanboys that can't see beyond Apple. They would prefer having every Apple competitor die out simply because they think that Apple is the only company that can innovate. They go by various names such as Appleians, or Applews, or Applim, or Appleu, or Appleist. Indeed, Appleism is their primary belief. Even if Apple screws them over, they think of it as Apple's mercy on them for they are insignificant compared to Apple. They troll anything related to Apple's competitor and they trash everyone. If Apple released a product called *****, which was literally a solidified version of Tim Cook's ****, they would buy it and place it as a center piece in their house for all to bathe in its vast glory.
6. There are those who swear by Apple but aren't crazy like #5. They aren't used to Android devices and they put up a good argument.
7. Finally, these are the underground, secretive Apple fanboys. They hang around parking lots and stake out stores because they love the smell of freshly bought Apple products. They need some money and they are too much in love with Apple to get a real job, so they steal from their fellow fanboys so they can stay connected with Apple.

These are the famed 7 types of Apple Fanboys. They go by various names, but in the end - majority of them are pretty nice. You just have to worry about #5 and #7, because #5s are very similar in nature to say Justin Bieber fans.

Disclaimer: These 7 types are not scientifically proven. No experiment was conducted to confirm the 7 types.

I was trying to decide what type of MacRumors Troll would describe you. However it would take far too much effort to even think of such a classification system. Lets just say you suffer from a combination of self-righteousness and rectal-cranial syndrome.

No one is talking about the watch Bono is wearing. They aren't influential anymore.

Well in all fairness Bono got badly injured last year which kept them out of the limelight some.

They were scheduled for a bunch of appearances on various late night shows that they had to cancel, including some guest hosting of some kind. This year they pretty much sold out a huge nation wide tour and had to add a bunch more dates.

If Bono showed up on any chat show wearing an Apple Watch, there would be as much talk on this forum as any other celebrity.

And when they played Every Breaking Wave to the young crowd at the MTV awards in 2014, they got as good a reception as any other 'relevant' band.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cszigsFaChc

Next year will be their 40th year in the music business. Very few people on the planet can claim that kind of longevity in such a fickle business. And that's not nothing.

Apart from anything else, people have been repeatedly talking about how watches are not for teens, they are for older people say 30-50. Pretty sure U2 have still got a following in that demo.

----------

I do exercise. I've been staying fit and healthy without a watch telling me I've taken the "recommended" amount of steps per day.

Given the millions of Fitbit, Nike Fuelband, Jawbone UP and similar that have sold, are you really trying to claim that there is no market for fitness gadgets?

This whole forum is like one giant wit and sarcasm contest. It's very tiring to read you all attempting to one-up each other with arrogant comments.

Someone with a truly better perspective would be gracious and humble, and talk rationally, not attempt to nitpick and fault find in everyone else.

Well that was a great post.

And I think you'll find the expression is 'find fault' not 'fault find.'

:p

why are you (and two others) getting butt-hurt over my post. I primarily complemented Apple Fanboys on their beliefs and took a dig at those who were so obsessed and blinded by Apple that they put out a bad example for the rest -- oh wait, I understand now. You're one of those crazy apple fanboys. Well in that case, I'm sorry for my post.

you must be new here :p

anytime you talk factual, you're called a shill or biased or a fanboy.

anytime you speak in hyperbole half the forum thinks you're post is the best thing ever.

anytime you make sarcasm or witty remarks, half the forum gets angry and can't read between the lines.

you can't please everyone. and being that this is a an Apple centric forums, it will almost always lean one way.

Heck, I've been called a "shill" and a "fanboy" just because I dare speak actual facts that are contrary to someone's ignorant assumption, just because it didn't fit into their bias.

and whats worse, is that because of that bias, many others jump on board.

you should see my ignore list :p

I am confident Apple product team if not jony ive has a solid product life cycle plan even before throwing out Gen1. They know that they will bring out a round face including additional sensors but that would be a "magical" unveiling 2 years down the road.

Until then, like you, I wont be wearing that rectangle biscuit on my hand. Image
Don't forget the magical retina screen!

Nah you speak the truth :D

Do you have to put on glasses to look at a phone because the text on the watch is actually bigger most of the time.

oooo, thank you. I didn't know there was a way to ignore people. awesome! I have work to do now :)

wow, two months after launch is too long. Hope you enjoy the several year's wait because this is going to update along the lines of the AppleTV at best. The iPhone and apps will create most of the updates, not the watch itself.

Not ignoring you I have other things to do. I would have to have my iPhone 6 with me to use the watch and my iPhone screen is way more pleasant to look at than a watch face.

I get it. It's for kids. Have fun with it. It's just not for me.
