This guy has single-handedly cost Apple billions of dollars. I’m not sure future perspective employers will appreciate his lack of ethics in reporting.

Best analyst? Or just most prolific. I mean if you make a thousand predictions you are bound to get a few right. I think this guy was wrong more then he was right, but like most prophets people only cherry pick the correct predictions.

If it is so easy, then why don't you try take his place?

He never did "thousand" predictions.
His hits were laudable, given that Apple prototypes multiple units for a single release.
Also, to add level of difficulty, he prognosticated release cycles bound to those hits.

This is a HUGE loss for the rumors community.

Keep in mind this is the guy who revealed the exact display resolution, battery capacity, and switch to Face ID for iPhone X more than a year before it was released. Remember how everyone was swearing Apple would never drop in-display Touch ID?

Everyone’s talking about the 6.1” iPhone and Kuo’s the one who started the leak. There are countless times he was correct. Yes, he made some inaccurate predictions like the Blush Gold colored iPhone X but those aren’t significant.

Guys like Mark Gurman simply won’t be able to replace Kuo’s rumors. Nobody trusts a white guy when the entire supply chain is Asian.

I think he sees the current state of Taiwan tech industry and realize it is a bit stagnating. As a successful tech analyst it isn't surprising at all that he wants to advance his career by working on things beyond just microchips and other mobile phone components. These two industries are what Taiwan is good at, but there aren't many other things. The source mentioned he might move to mainland China, where there are tons of emerging new industries.

I think you’re probably right. Out of the global top 10 electric car startups, China dominates the majority of them. Apple dominated the last decade but it’s unlikely it will do the same for the 2020s. Most tech companies in history simply don’t glow that long.

Let's see... I think I can be an analyst too.. this year, Apple Watch Series 4, iPhone Xs, new watch bands every quarter (including Nike and Hermes), and no Mac Mini. Now hire me! (just kidding)

So rumor sites won’t be posting his guesses any more? Yea!

Hasty, much? As the article says, Kuo has covered Apple for three firms to date, and it does not say he will cease coverage Apple, only that he will cover it "less" in favor of expanding his coverage of other tech. My guess is he's going off on his own.

I looked forward to his predictions, and will continue to do so wherever he turns up, because more often than not, he was right. A small thing, I realize.

Down fall of Apple, stock price going down, profit margins going down because Apple relying too heavily on iphone. The writing is in the wall, smartphone market has reached a plateau.

Kuo was the ONLY Analyst covering AAPL who was worth his / her Salt !

As such, his departure means that Apple won't be in the Press very often moving forward ...

as such, the trend-line for AAPL is down !

And that's NOT even taking into account ALL of Tim Cook's recent Product Strategy screw-ups ! ... of which there are many:

1.) the 10 year anniversary should have been ALL-about 10-bit color ... that's 10-bit Display P3 capture + 10-bit Display P3 OR DCI-P3 display.

2.) 8 was overpricied by $100, and should have included an extra GB of DRAM.

3.) X should have included a pseudo-Hardware Home Button feature UNDER glass ... NOT Touch ID, but something that could act as a Hardware-like Home Button.

4.) The iOS App Store is still catastrophically broken, AND needs to be scraped completely ... it's now mostly a Curated App Store ... search has never been fixed, Rankings has never been fixed ... there should be lots of Search controls so Users can find what they are looking for "on their own" !

... the list goes on & on ...

BTW, Kuo didn't touch on any of these, so maybe his departure isn't such a BIG deal after all.

What is Tim cook going do without Kuo guidance on new product releases? He going lost without his insights as to what features will be release and when!

I believe it's called a mature market or complete saturation. That doesn't mean it's going down. It means everyone has one. I don't see them giving up smartphones any time soon. Do you?

There goes half the rumors.

Maybe MR will focus on other industries too? Like evolve into GoogleTumors.

But there are tons of future employers who are unethical….. so naturally he would be a good fit for them.

Because I’m conflicted and complicated. Surely a Malfoy—if anyone—can understand that.

No. The ratio of accurate to inaccurate betweeen him and the average Joe was VASTLY different. Timeline as well.
people here are not the average joe

A lot of criticism against Kuo in this thread. I always enjoyed reading his predictions and he had some very insightful accuracies over the years. He is and likely will always be one of the most consistent/reliable analysts who followed Apple. What I also liked about him, he appeared to be a very private man who remained fairly incognito who did not need to make himself recognized for his contributions in the tech sector.

I do not think he is a true analyst. it is very obvious that he had some very reliable sources. Someone from inside the Foxconn factories maybe. His true test will come when he can predict with such accuracy about products not made in China. The trouble is what product would that be?

He should make one more Apple prediction before switching like Tim Cook finally getting the boot after tomorrow before he sinks the ship.

Ming-Chi Kuo's legend will live for ever. Songs shall be sung in his glory. Till now, no one has a clue on how he pulled off such precise predictions, so consistently. No one even know how he looks like. This is the only photo of him that keeps circulating on the internet and we don't even know if its true.

Simplest Answer:

Ming Chi Kuo is Buddhist Reincarnation of Steve Jobs. And every bit as brilliant as SJ.

I refuse to believe he's a real person, and instead is a phantom persona conjured by the tech press.
