Hadn't this guy retired? And he comes predicting new iPhones in September? Wow, shocking, who could have guessed?

This is like when apple lost its mind with the over 10k price for the first watch trying to be of the likes of Rolex.

Hardly anyone bought it.

Now for those that went and bought the first X will be a little upset if the price for the newer X is way cheaper than what they paid for for the first edition of their X. This would anger me if I paid for the phone full price instead of a monthly payments.

It's always been this way with electronics. The recent trend notwithstanding.

This isn't new information, with "$900-1000" meaning $999, "$800-900", meaning $899, and "$600-700" meaning $699.
They don't want to sell a phone starting at over $1000, and in general the lowered pricing will have a positive effect on sales. This year is definitely a year where they are sorting out pricing for a lot of products, which has very rarely been done under Tim Cook, especially within the last few years.

I hope they sort out MacBook pricing.

I think this is definitely accurate, and great news for all of us consumers. Apple is giving all price points some relaxation, AND giving us curvy screens with Face ID on all of the newest models. Christmas in September!

This is what a former employee had to say about this article:

Now Apple just needs a small version of the iPhone X to mop up the rest of the profits. I’d gladly trade in my X for a smaller sized version. Premium compact phones - I vote yes!

Good news, resell value of iPhone X and even my 8+ would be lower but I don't care since I'm on upgrade program and can trade in the phone and get a new one (maybe X2) at the same monthly price.
Hope Ming-Chi Kuo is right!

My price predictions for 2018 iPhones
iPhone X Plus $999 or $950
iPhone X 2nd gen $899 or $849
iPhone LCD $749 or $799
iPhone SE (X style) $549 or $599
iPhone SE (original style) $399 or 449

I’ll upgrade my SE only of there’s an (not a) SE size iPhone.
Gave up my X and won’t go back to that hideous form factor. I get it, Steve asked Tim to never question would he have done but X was horrible, heavy, too large (remember thum ad?).

I think you can safely throw out reason #1 for pricing, since reason #2 is more than enough by itself.

Note the lack of prediction of an “SE2.”

That along with the $900-1000 price for the 6.5” model is news.

This is tough stuff. Predicting new iphones in september is going out on a limb. Concern about pricing? Yeah, that 1000 phone was the main headline for a long time. An an iphone X user though, that bigger phone needs to be more than just a bigger screen. I doubt I'll have much interest if no pencil designed for and built into it. At this point minor camera improvements, keeping same screen rez, a bit faster chip you won't notice, etc don't really interest me. I'd definitely go for an OLED ipad before another iphone but doubt that's coming either.

That said, I hope Apple has been focusing on ecosystem features and updates. Cross product integration is about the only thing exciting anymore. Homepod, watch, airplay 2, iOS on mac, ipad as a wacom, etc.

Still can't quite digest Apple pitching a 6.1 LCD alongside a 5.8 OLED.

Edit: Then again, we've had the lineup disaster that is the MacBook Air alongside the USB-C MacBook for a while now, so who knows? Oh for the old days where Apple sold 'good', 'better' and 'best'....

Hardly anyone bought it.

They didn't lose their mind, it was a marketing move intended to draw attention to an unproven new product and give it credibility as a luxury item so that Joe Sixpack would take the plunge. They didn't expect to sell many of them, but it was a high margin product that was trivially easy to offer. There was no downside.

You're paying 'full price' either way. There's no reason for anyone to be upset--cell phones are not good investments.

Don't get it why people don't like this guy here, his reports are always spot on.
Actually he’s not always. When’s the last time Apple has reduced the price of a new iPhone? All of his reasonings are speculation not based on anything he knows or supply chain rumors.
