Maybe they will also announce new Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard to go along with it. I wonder why this particular screen size tho when they still have the 9.7" iPad Pro and the 12.9"
I doubt it. Ming-Chi would have mentioned that if it was going to happen. Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard are perfectly fine and don't show any aging - maybe more colors but no concrete updates in my opinion.

So They're killing 7.9 inch iPads and adding another 10.5" model because both 9.7" and 12.9" models aren't enough ? .......wtf ?
Yeah I think the 9.7 size is perfect. I think maybe the 10.5 is replacing the 12.9 which is just too big and gaudy in my opinion.

If Apple puts a touch screen on a speaker while removing the headphone jack from the iPhone, then I fear common sense has left the company and businessmen, not engineers, are in charge of design.

Don't see the need for 10.5. I currently love my 12.9. I don't even think that needs an update, it's still great. Only complaints about it are that it doesn't have force touch, and the Touch ID is the slower 1.0 version.
My wife still loves her mini 2. Shame they might ditch that size.

Why are tablets still a thing? Unless you're an artist, I don't thin people need them. Phones nowadays are big enough and laptops are small enough.

Going to buy the 10.5" Pro the minute it goes on sale.

My 9.7" Pro is pure joy, a bigger screen in the same chassis will be a fable.

Do you mean "fable"? A fable is a kind of myth based more on hyperbole than fact.

A 10.5 iPad with OLED screen and higher PPI than any other iPad would be amazing. Also would need 3D touch, something no iPad now has. But if it's just a bigger 9.7" Pro with OLED screen and no improved resolution, I'll be passing.

I am sorry, but in the next 2 years , it is....
Apple will rather sell you an iphone plus phone. It will remain there for the kid market. And the ipad mini 4 is sufficient for that. Perhaps the current ipad mini , will be updated with an a9 soc, but no high end ipad mini anymore.

Maybe, but it's not now. Your statement was that it's now EOL. Every product eventually is EOL but its impossible to predict exactly when. BTW I have 2 minis myself. I've definitely NOT a kid. Well past that point by decades. They are great as Wi-Fi remote controls, games, and readers. The 9.7 can get a bit heavy for that. I have a 9.7 Pro too but prefer my mini for reading. If anything, the iPod touch remains for the kid market and that device is a tad older than the Mini 4, not yet EOL either.

EOL basically means it won' t be updated.

No. EOL means End Of Life. It's a technical term to indicate a product is discontinued and no longer in production.

But whether the iPad mini will get an update no one can predict for the reasons I mentioned in my first response to you.

It still seems so weird to me that they would have a 9.7 iPad AND a 10.5.
And the naming structure is too confusing for the non-techy people.

It still cracks me up that people say having a few different versions of a product is 'confusing' to people. Have you ever been to an Athletes Foot store? Or a clothing store at the mall?!? The number of choices of shirts and shoes must be so 'confusing' to people that they never buy anything ... right?

So you think people are so dumb, that when they go to an apple store and see 4 different sizes of ipads that they become completely overwhelmed and flustered that they cant choose which size they want. If so, you must me amazed that mortal humans unlike you can even function at all in life. Family budget, planning a birhday party ... everything would be way too 'confusing' for these people you imagine exist.

And to help you developers code with this latest version of Swift, we are announcing the NEW iPad Pro! The only machine you will need for on the go development.

I'll be getting the 10.5 inch iPad Pro. Really wanted an iPad mini Pro but I guess that won't be happening.
[doublepost=1494691072][/doublepost]How about a 12.9 inch iPad Pro that runs Mac OS & iOS and comes with detachable keyboard.

Wow really? The iPad is great for a number of things and that's only growing with the iPad Pro. I own an iPad Pro 12.9" and it is great for things like Netflix, split screening, picture in picture, yes drawing also, typing documents on, writing notes with my own handwriting, playing games and so on. Phone screens are not big enough to do all of those things on and you can't do all of those on a iPhone or a Mac.

If they aren't going to turn iOS into a professional OS, at least they could make the iPad Pro fun: Let's release a 30-inch iPad Pro. It would still be useless without a real OS... but... wow!! imagine the impression when you'd wear one of those on a train (or when you took a photo!!).
