As non-US buyer Apple priced me out with 9.7" Pro. The 10.5" is for sure a no-go for me price wise. It will be in notebook territory.

I still don't understand the point of a Siri speaker, or the Amazon Echo or any other product in this segment. I already have Siri on my phone, tablet and computer.

I agree, I think the only reason Echo's sell at all is due to the novelty factor and the extremely low price point. It's an easy impulse or gift buy. I also think the way it links to Amazon's store is a nice feature that Apple can't match. Inevitably the Siri version will cost twice as much and I don't think it will sell at nearly the same volume. Then again I also thought Watch was pointless too, so who knows.

Good point. At the same time, you'd want the Wi-Fi to broadcast from a central location (unless I'm misunderstanding the hardware terms here), and this sort of thing would do well in a central location. I dunno. Networking kinda confuses me.

Yes I agree, as centrally located as possible. But that is part of the issue, if you have cable internet, for example, your cable modem would need to be near a cable outlet. This might work in some homes just fine. Most of my friends with listening devices, however, typically have them in the kitchen. I am not sure why, but they do, on the counter or island, where you wouldn't typically find a cable outlet and wouldn't want to see a cable modem taking up space. Maybe those with DSL would have a phone jack in the kitchen. I might be over-thinking it.

I officially predict the smart speaker will be called Apple Home.
Yes, sounds good, but will there be stripped down additional devices that connect to the apple home, so you can have mics and speakers in other rooms, without having to buy another full featured apple home?

Apple home express?

I would love it to have w-lan, so it can be a ridiculous fast router too.

Apple Home Mini or maybe there will be an Apple Home Hub and two clients and they also serve as an Airport base station/extender for creating a mesh network like Google WiFi...now I might be entering fantasyland but one can dream. If that came out, I would buy it immediately on the first day of availability.

My personal experience is that if the result of a request involves a list of information, say a dozen items such as train departure times or a forecast of hourly temperatures for the next 12 hours, or anything where many items need to be absorbed and analyzed to form a conclusion to a larger problem unknown to an AI assistant, I would much rather see that information displayed so I can draw conclusions based upon my particular goals. Which are not necessarily simple, or known by the AI assistant.

And that points to why companies are rolling out AI assistants with displays, and why Siri will display list-based information rather than announcing the list (which would be easy to do). Can you remember a dozen quickly announced train departure times, so you can analyze the best choice for whatever larger complex scheduling goal for the day you might have in mind?

If I ask Siri "what's the weather in San Francisco," I want to see what the day will be like with an hourly forecast, rather than having that quickly read to me. Much better for contemplating available options. Again, that's not a shortcoming of Siri as it would be easy to make Siri announce the list. Rather, that's an informed programming choice.

Comes down to the individual .

In my case if I use my phone to activate Siri , asking what the weather is, I'm fine with a list result

If I activate Siri from my AirPods , I'm not fine with a list on the iPhone , if expect modified behaviour , that of a AI speaker.

Using my AirPod example, in my opinion it's a very poor experience , cause I here Siri saying here is the result, and I have to find my phone.....which contradicts me getting wireless headphones :)

Anyway , you are happy with Siri , I'm not. We are not going to convince each other .

What about the possibility of iMac and/or MacBook Pro revisions with updated processors and UBB-C ports? Aren't these long overdue?

I'm with you. I don't see the point of this speaker for the reasons we mentioned (especially, as you point out, without the Amazon store), but I could be completely off. Maybe there is a huge market for it with Apple TV, Apple Music?

No, apple should make a special PadOS, with the same good touchscreen controll, but more possibilities in multiaccount/multiwindow , filemanagement, etc.
It is time for apple to cut the cord with iphone ios for the ipad, (maintaining compatibility though).

Basically you WANT Android Nougat in a ipad.......thats what your description leads to ....but I wholeheartedly agree!!!

All the Touchwiz people have had these forever now.....thank you Touchwiz and your innovations leading to android nougat

You mean 3D Touch? It's a nice thought, but I don't think it will happen. Tim Cook quoted how difficult it was to manufacture 3D Touch into a smaller form factor with the iPhone. I personally like 3D Touch and I would use it if the iPad offered it, but I don't see this being a likely factor. It would be nice to have so you can create shortcuts with a larger display like the iPad.

A guy can dream right?

Maybe they will also announce new Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard to go along with it. I wonder why this particular screen size tho when they still have the 9.7" iPad Pro and the 12.9"

Maybe a 10.2 will have the exact same form size as the 9.7 so that ipad shells and 3rd party accessories will fit. So less bezel? I excited bc I'm in the market for iPad and 12.9 is too big and 9.7 is not bad..but I would like to do some word processing on it and a bigger screen would be nice for that.

Rumors are already out Apple is going to kill 7.9 iPad

You're Wrong again and are completely inaccurate. I have no idea why you quote me without researching what Facts are and not rumors. You posted a link to a "Rumor", this isn't a confirmation of anything at all.

"BGR" is the source that is making the claim in the link you provided, that the 7.9 iPad mini will be discontinued. They are a NOT a verified source, they have a horrible track record of being accurate and post bogus click bait articles. Macrumors is posting this, because it qualifies as a rumor.

Now, please read the question I am asking you below and I have only ONE question for you......

Did Apple confirm this rumor about the 7.9 iPad Mini being discontinued?

The answer is NO and Apple has not "Killed the 7.9 Mini". Nothing has been proven until Apple confirms and any other source indicating is completely false until verified otherwise.

If you reply to this post, please answer the question I asked you. Then we can actually have something to discuss that would be of pertinence. But, I assume you won't be Replying to my post.

What I want in the new iPad

*OLED SCREEN
*3D TOUCH
*BEZELESS DESIGN
*MORE RAM
* USB-C (DITCH LIGHTNING)
* 500GB OF STORAGE
*MOUSE SUPPORT
*OPTIMIZED IPAD SOFTWARE
Except for an essentially bezel-less design and maybe more ram I don't think you'll get what you listed.

Well I have an Echo and a couple of the hockey pucks and I can assure you that I use them everyday and they are valuable to me. I call out the timer when I'm putting something in the oven. I call out to put something on my grocery list or to ask for the weather or to read audio book or play a song at a whim. It's quite excellent and I'm glad I have them. Quite useful and hands free for me which I cannot say the same for Siri.

Well look at that, another Kuo prediction that is completely correct. Maybe people will stop bitching when MacRumors posts something from him.
