Just to warn you guys, this is going to be more expensive than the 9.7 pro-- it's not going to replace the 9.7 it'll simply be an addition to the pro line. I think it'll cost around 750 for the base model.

I think it's fair to say that it'll replace the 9.7 Pro. Having the iPad as the 9.7 regular design tablet and the iPad Pro as the professional bezelless 10.5 version with same dimensions would make it a lot easier for people to differentiate between both.

Ouch. But I'm buying this regardless of the price. I know that I can fit an iPad and Pencil into my workflow (marking up PDFs is something I have to do fairly often). So this device will be great for me. I just couldn't quite justify the first 9.7 iPad Pro because my Air 2 is still so effective. But another improved generation and more screen space will put this over the top for me. I will preorder. But I certainly hope it doesn't cost $750 without LTE.

If it is basically the same size, I can use my current bluetooth keyboard and case as well.

It still cracks me up that people say having a few different versions of a product is 'confusing' to people. Have you ever been to an Athletes Foot store? Or a clothing store at the mall?!? The number of choices of shirts and shoes must be so 'confusing' to people that they never buy anything ... right?

Well, they never have what I want which is usually "what I'm wearing but without the holes".

More to the point - have you looked at Dell's website? At least in a shopping mall store you'll typically be looking at competing products from lots of different brands. With Dell/HP/Lenovo and the like you'll get their "Mac Wannabe" range (e.g. Dell XPS) which will have more options and models plus half a dozen other overlapping ranges... Apple have always tried to avoid that with a simple, logical range.

I think what is under threat recently is not so much the "simple" part as the "logical" part: too much reliance on last year's model as the entry-level in place of an up-to-date entry level model (MacBook Air, the iPad Air until the last launch), random feature differences (e.g. the 12.9" iPad Pro not getting True Tone or the 12 Mpixel camera - the 9.7" Pro not getting USB 3) or using UI differences as product differentiators (e.g. Pencil support on iPad, touch bar on the Mac, force touch on iPhone) that hampers the creation of a consistent UI across devices.

Then look at the USB-C/USB-A/Lightning situation: how long since they introduced USB-C in the rMB - and they still haven't rolled it out across the whole range.

In a nutshell, they're not allocating enough resources to R&D and, consequently, individual products are getting updated piecemeal rather than whole lines getting updated in a coordinated way.

(OT: Wait, what? they have stores called "Athlete's Foot" in the USA? Ick! Why would you name a store after a fungal infection - or is that a UK/US thing?)

I still don't understand the point of a Siri speaker, or the Amazon Echo or any other product in this segment. I already have Siri on my phone, tablet and computer.

Hopefully we'll get a 4K Apple TV. It's possible we'll see a Kaby Lake MacBook too!

No. EOL means End Of Life. It's a technical term to indicate a product is discontinued and no longer in production.

But whether the iPad mini will get an update no one can predict for the reasons I mentioned in my first response to you.
Ok, but it was what i mean(t), it won' t be updated anymore, and will phase out.

i dont want to see a new iPad before iOS 11 because that would mean there sre no "real" improvements to be expected besides yet another screen size since it is going to run the same boring phoneOS

So you think people are so dumb, that when they go to an apple store and see 4 different sizes of ipads that they become completely overwhelmed and flustered that they cant choose which size they want. If so, you must me amazed that mortal humans unlike you can even function at all in life. Family budget, planning a birhday party ... everything would be way too 'confusing' for these people you imagine exist.
I'm not talking about walking into a store and buying one.
I'm talking about AFTER that!
Like when you ask someone what iPad they have (or like when they are selling one) and you say which iPad do you have and they said, "I dunno, the silver one"! LOL!

Will there be an Apple Speaker Edition model that is dipped in 24K Gold costing $20,000.00? If not I'm out....

It's $35k and dipped in Platinum

As for iPads. Don't know if I'll ever spend $500 on another iPad. I think the platform has run its course. If Apple is smart their R&D budget and projects for the Mac will get a bit of a bump.

hmmm will be interesting to see what they call the new 10.5 inch iPad. Seems weird that they're presumably introducing a new size to the line before they update the 12.9 even though the 12.9 is what NEEDS an update and not the 9.7. Maybe they're replacing the 12.9 line with the 10.5?

12.9 iPad less bezels might shrink to 10.5. I am excited to see all devices shrink, especially iPhone X+

So They're killing 7.9 inch iPads and adding another 10.5" model because both 9.7" and 12.9" models aren't enough ? .......wtf ?

A 9.7 without bezels might shrink to a near 7.9 size.

It still seems so weird to me that they would have a 9.7 iPad AND a 10.5.
And the naming structure is too confusing for the non-techy people.

One will be last "generation" with bezels (9.7) and the other will be next "generation" without bezels. Easy to tell apart.

You probably just described the new iPad mini

Exactly!

I still think it would be super cool if their Siri speaker also takes the place of the Airport / base station / whatever. Might be trying to fit too much into one device, but it would be nice.

I think you may be on to something considering the way they pulled people off of that team. But that would require two pieces, right? You wouldn't want your Siri speaker to have to sit in a room next to your cable modem. A lot of people I know that have listening devices have them on the kitchen counter, or island or a piece of furniture in the living room, these are not typical places for a modem, and who wants to have that out in plain sight anyway? Our cable modem and time capsule are tucked away in a cabinet, nearly out of sight.

I have an iPhone Plus and an iPad Mini. Sorry but no, phones are not big enough, not even compared to Mini.

But in a year we' ll have an iphone 8/edition/x plus, with a 6.2 inch, it still won' t be as big as the ipad mini, but should suffice. X

Do you mean "fable"? A fable is a kind of myth based more on hyperbole than fact.

A 10.5 iPad with OLED screen and higher PPI than any other iPad would be amazing. Also would need 3D touch, something no iPad now has. But if it's just a bigger 9.7" Pro with OLED screen and no improved resolution, I'll be passing.

OLED will not be coming to iPad yet. Don't get your hopes up here. Expect a higher resolution LCD.

For me personally, there hasn't been a substantial keynote from them in a long long time. I really am looking forward to WWDC, hoping it will bring all that momentum back.

The last great WWDC for me was 2011, Steve's last appearance I believe. I still laugh when he said about MobileMe "it wasn't our finest hour." I think that's also the keynote where he seemed to pass the proverbial baton to Scott Forstall because he knew his time was short (Steve's I mean).

I'm with you, I don't really see the point of the device yet. But let's not confuse that with saying our iPhones and Siri do the same thing. Hey Siri rarely works for me and many others and it isn't nearly as useful as it could be, yet.

Dont believe this is going to happen. Wwdc is normally very focused on software and clinics. If anything I would think a 7se model is likely if anything so they can burn up old 7 bodies before september, or going to be announced soon. I would love it if they actually did a siri home assistant with touchscreen but very unlikely to me.

One other thing...

It could be like the :apple: Watch, where it is shown off, and then "it'll be available in October... taking orders on Friday."

That would freeze out their current sales, as well as give Android/Surface time to up their game. I think it's going to be an interesting summer!
I noticed Amazon did this to a lesser degree with their new $229 "Echo Show". They did the announcement this past week but it won't be available until mid June. I think they were wanting to make sure they beat Apple to be the first to announce a home automation device with a screen.

I love Apple products but I am heavily invested in Amazon home automation products (1 Echo and 4 Echo Dots). I am eagerly awaiting WWDC to decide whether I upgrade to an Echo Show next month or hold off for the new Siri based Apple device. The biggest factor will likely be compatibility with my existing system (Nest thermostat, Harmony TV remote, Hue lighting system, Wemo wall outlets, etc.).

Well, if there are any new hardware introduced, then I would love to see a 14" and a 16" Macbook - with the new version of the keyboard and at least 720p webcam. I personally prefer 15" laptops and there's only one, and even with a measly 256 gb storage, the price is laughable. So I would hope that a 16" Macbook, for general consumers, would be priced reasonably (...well, -ish, since it's Apple)
