I’m sorry but I’m out of the loop. Why everyone thinks that Mini would get OLED screen but meanwhile Air doesn’t have it? Is Air rumored to change?
I assume because the iPad Air is in direct competition with the iPad Pro, that’s why Apple has refrained from giving it OLED sooner. It will eventually get a single panel OLED like the iPad mini is rumored to be getting later this year, because most of the competition is using OLED now so it’s inevitable. The iPad mini will get it first probably because the iPhone Fold is coming out this year and will be very similar to the iPad mini in size. So it makes sense that Apple would give it OLED first. Again, these are all just rumors, but it seems it’s the direction Apple is moving in.

In addition to this, the iPad mini 7 was launched when the Air 6 was current. Air users can now pick up the Air 8, so it is simply that it is the minis turn even amongst its schedule of less frequent refreshes.

Considering it has an a17 pro it’s still pretty good for 2nd tier soc offerings for a comparatively neglected product line.

The neo is a18 pro that just launched a month ago

15-20% single core gains on the a18 pro

60hz on iPad mini 8 if true will be a bummer. The mini would feel way cooler with promotion. But I guess a smaller bezel and bigger screen in relatively same small footprint and oled contrast will be nice. Especially considering the panels in the minis is far from the best even motion aside

Interestingly even mini 7 supports dci p3 where neo tops off at sRGB (without hackery, unclear if the panel itself can even render true dci p3 with this override)

I am still on my mini 6 which i have since release so almost 5 years old now.

The only things annoying on my mini 6.
  • 4 GB RAM, and the Touch button stopped working (never worked great).

Wishlist:

  • 12 GB RAM>
  • FaceID.
  • OLED display with smaller bezels.
The Ipad mini 6 is still fine even with 4 GB RAM, its my primary computer device at home for my language study, entertainment, administrative tasks.

I may end up using my mini 6 till the mini 9 comes out.
Unnecessary consumerism.

Wallet. ApplePay. I usually carry my iPad 6 in my bag and it goes with me everywhere, but lately I've been leaving it home. I'm using an iPhone 17 and I find I'm using it now more than my iPad. The main two differences are that I can use it for ApplePay and that it has a nice camera. And since we're making a wish list, I would like to have a phone sim instead of merely data.

Literally higher refresh. I don’t care if it doesn’t get OLED. Just give me 120hz. Going from my 240hz gaming laptop and 120hz iPad Pro to my mini makes it feel so slow and glitchy. Which is sad because the form factor is awesome as a bed or couch companion

  • An M3 or M4 processor
  • Pro motion
  • Smaller bezels
  • Slightly more battery

Apart from longer battery life which would be nice to have, a smaller bezel would make it less comfortable to hold, and M-chip and Pro-motion are as redundant as can be for the Mini.

M-chip maybe for lack of cooling and that small a body, but why ProMotion? its on smaller screen iPhones.

I think they could opt for slightly smaller bezels while still being easy to handle. They do look a little dated for the overall size.

Just thinking about wishlists... a 9" iPad Pro is what I really want.

  • Literally the same design as the current iPP, around 5mm thick
  • Smaller bezels than the current mini to have minimal/no increase in footprint
  • 120hz Promotion
  • OLED (maybe just a single panel rather than tandem if it would harm battery life too much, but I'd love tandem)
  • M6 chip (or if the heat wouldn't allow it in the mini form factor, an A20)
Given the 11" Pro is $999 and the 13" Pro is $1299, I don't see why an M6, tandom OLED mini couldn't be $700-$800? Once you strip out the tandom OLED for a regular (500 nit) OLED, and sub out the M6 for an A20, I feel like they could absolutely release this at $599 tops. I would buy that device instantly.

I hope we could get OLED and Promotion at the current $499, but something tells me we won't 🙁
