Mini-LED MacBook Pro Models Could Stick Around Until 2028

I'm perfectly happy with the screen in my 14" M4 MBP. I can wait for them to sort out a high quality OLED screen for the Pro line.

I think there are two possibilities:

1. the OLED MacBook 'Ultra' is dropping features for looks, so the old model has a role to meet that demand. My guess is battery life, SD Card reader, HDMI port and possibly the audio jack (<sob>) are potential candidates for the chop if this is what's happening.

2. Apple wants to still be able to say 'From £1,999' on its web page, so will keep a few low-end Mini-LED models (M6 or M6 Pro) on the books for a bit purely for market positioning.

I bet you've A) never owned an OLED display and B) if you have, have not experienced burn-in. Which headaches, in particular, have you experienced?

OLED displays in general use PWM (Pulse Wave Modulation) to manage lower brightness levels, and some people (Me included) get bad headaches from the flickering. There is a massive ongoing thread on MR regarding this. Tandem OLED on the iPP has some of the worst flickering I ever experienced, however i can cope with it at 50% brightness or above just so I can enjoy this incredible, industry leading display.

I don't use my laptop outside in the sun. I doubt most people do. Regardless, it's not more expensive...take a look at all the sub-$1000 Windows laptops with OLED then tell me why Apple would probably charge north of $1500 for an OLED laptop?

So many people here who have never, ever owned an OLED laptop seemingly have an opinion on it without never having used one for any period of time needed to cause the issues they think will happen! ASUS, for example, puts up a OLED CARE screen saver after 30 minutes of idle, and Windows lets you hide the taskbar. If Apple were smart, they'd let you hide the menu bar and the taskbar.

I feel people are inventing reasons to diss an OLED when in fact, you can't beat a 3K or 4K 120Hz OLED panel in a laptop for cheap (in Windows).

Very true, so many OLED armchair experts. If Apple does not show a MBP with OLED screen they will not see my money. I'm not so desperate, I can easily work with Windows.
