Here's my take on the "two MateViews are better than one" theme. Excuse the less than ideal lighting. To the left is a 2015 iMac 4K which “runs” these and acts as a third display.

Edit/Update: I'll be returning the second MateView and asking for a replacement because it's visibly “crooked” to the left: height from desk to screen is about 5mm/0.2” lower on the left corner than on the right.
Hello,
Could you put the info about resolution and Dock/cable/adapters that you are using?
Because I have the same iMac and I`m looking for info to configure mine.

Thx.

You need an eGPU (hooked up via Thunderbolt 2) to run the MateView. The 2015 iMac’s built-in Intel Iris Pro 6200 GPU can't run it at full resolution. I’m using an AMD Radeon RX 460 (a Fujitsu OEM version with three DisplayPorts — most 460s only have one) in an Akitio Thunder2 enclosure. And the purge-wrangler patch to enable eGPUs on pre-Thunderbolt 3 Macs. This patch has since been superseded by Kryptonite though.

I know this is technically the wrong forum for this, but as it's the most active 'Mateview' thread I thought it was the best place to put it.

I just picked up one of these for my 2021 14" MBP (specs in signature.) The monitor looks great, however there is one very disappointing issue - the monitors on-board USB-C hub and power delivery is not powerful enough to run a single cable setup. Unless I also have my MagSafe cable connected, I get all kinds of weird issues such as noise/interference from the speakers, unreliable connection, black screen for no apparent reason etc. All of these are solved by connecting the MagSafe connector so that the USB C hub doesn't have to deliver power.

It's not a deal breaker, but is disappointing, I was hoping the 65w power delivery would be suffucient for a single cable setup, but no. Guess I'll still have to drool over the Caldigit Thunderbolt 4 dock, I just can't bring myself to spend over £200 on what is basically a USB hub.

Hello everyone,

i have this Monitor since august and i really love it. The aspect ratio ist perfekt for me and my work.
I want to have a good looking hardware, that's why i´m using a Hackintosh in a Mac Pro 1,1 case and the MateView ist the prefect combination for it.

Unfortunately there is no HDR Option

I hope that the next monitor from HUAWEI will have a higher resolution and 120hz.

May I ask why you are using scaled resolution versus the monitors native resulotion?

I have no idea what that means.. you mean that you are running the monitor at 1280p?

Yes and no ?
The rendered resolution is 3840x2560 but the ui will look like 1920x1280.
Apple is using that on all Macs. The iMacs resolution for example is 5120x2880 and is displayed at 2560x1440.

Using the option ”standard for this display“ is using the exakt same settings as I do.

Nativ res without HiDPI is way too small for the UI

With HiDPI everything looks sharper and bigger

Aha. Thank you for taking the time to explain. Personally I would opt for the Native res without HiDPI (the first pic) though. More space to work with. More tracks that I can see at once in Logic Pro for example. But I realize this is a matter of personal preference.

Because macOS is not resolution (ppi) independent and the native resolution (pixels) of this display does not match one of the only two resolutions (ppi) that macOS supports well, normal aka @1x, and retina aka @2x. It's a real shame, this is such a nice display, but the ppi is exactly where it shouldn't be for macOS. 50ppi more, or less, than its 163ppi and it would be perfect.

Guys good morning sorry for my english!
I just bought the mateview 28 to connect it to my MBP 14 and I would like to ask you: can I connect a normal usbc / usbc cable (like the one to charge an ipad pro, so to speak) on one side to a usbc of the mac and on the other to the usbc side of the monitor? In this case, the MBP is also powered and, therefore, can it be closed without going to stop ??

I recently got two of these monitors to pair with my 14" MBP M1 Pro. As a size comparison, that's a Macintosh Classic, and a 17" Apple Studio Display either side.

They are aesthetically very beautiful displays, and HDR is very impressive on them. With HDR turned off they have a peak brightness of 500 nits, so they really do pop!

It needs to be a USB-C cable that can handle video, but yes - that's exactly how they work!

arrived today. that is to say, it seems to have been designed exactly as I always wanted it. I am a lawyer and I senor hated 9/16 for working. This monitor is just perfect for my needs! I have read the whole discussion and, thanks to your advice, I have set 2304 × 1536 the resolution that is ideal for me. Question: I set the "native" color profile as a cone and I calibrated it using the Apple utility by setting the white point to about 55 (higher it seemed tending to blue): what color profile did you choose?

Hi all!
It been a while since I've been here last time!)
Yesterday I got myself a new MBP 16" 2021 (m1 pro custom with 32gb of ram), it is super fast and cold and I'm already in love with it but in comparison with my intel MBP 15" 2018 I found a strange issue when using MateView:
The "emulated" non-integer hidpi resolution of 3360x2240@60hz (which is my favourite for MateView) looks slightly more blurry on the m1 pro MBP than on intel (as well as other non-integer res options).
I installed SwitchResX to even check if it is really a hidpi one - and yes, it is! There is an option to set the same 3360x2240@60hz in non-hidpi mode in SwitchResX and in this case everything looks blurry AF just like it is supposed to when it is not about hidpi.
So it looks like the problem is that intel mac graphics drivers are at the moment kinda better than on apple silicon in terms of running an external monitor.
Later I'll try to upload some pics for you to see it yourself, but unfortunately the iphone camera just fails to show it obviously enough (which is kinda good because it shows that the difference is not so critical).
Going to get an m1 MBA to test the same thing later today - it will be very revealing it is has the same issue with MateView.

BTW both macs are running the same Monterey 12.1.

PS the m1 pro recognizes MateView as an HDR monitor out of the box (the intel MBP still refuses to do it).

You don't want to use a ≈110ppi monitor with macOS anymore. Text rendering is absolutely horrible on these (I speak from experience). :)

This is an interesting and curious observation. Are both machines driving the MateView at the native 3840×2560 60 Hz mode (double-click on a scaled mode in SwitchResX and check the timing)?

Received the replacement — and it’s also crooked to the left by about 2mm.

Did the screens look the same out of the box? I had to calibrate my 2nd one as it was too yellow.

These sorts of issues make me nervous about purchasing it here in the US from amazon.es for $750 delivered. Returns/exchanges would be major pain points. $1200 from Amazon.com makes no sense to me.

Do they sell this display in the US?
It's on Amazon in the US for $1200. Or, you could order it from Amazon.es for $750ish delivered (you have to hold your nose re: how much of the $750 is shipping...just pretend it's $750 for the monitor).
