when you volume down using the side buttons, when you get to zero volume for the speaker or headphones, the three curved lines change to black. This might have been in 1.1.4 but i dont remember it.

oh that's useful.

Also, tap the clock in the top bar in Safari and you fly to the top of the page. That's new isn't it?

Nope! Always been there in Safari. What is new is that you can tap the menu bar in just about every app (contacts, SMS, etc.) to now to go the top as well!

I think that was in 1.1.4. On the same subject - I wish they'd reverse the volume buttons when in landscape mode!

i agree twice i have played super monkey ball in a quiet place and when the music started regardless of the silent switch position, i frantically tried to turn the volume down and actually made it louder. They defiantly should be reversed.

you can save pics from safari/email by holding finger over them and it asks you to save them to camera roll

Another one - the ability to select which Mail account you want to send from in each email, regardless of the account/mailbox you're in at the time - very useful!

Yep.
I just wish we could also select other .mac (or now .me) aliases to also write from. Now THAT would be really useful! ;)

Not sure about anyone else, but I've noticed a slight performance drop, things a bit more laggy/stuttery, than in 1.1.4.

One Very, Very annoying change is to contacts. I am using MobileMe so this may be why, but everytime I go to look for a contact, I have to wait 2 sec or so before I can scroll. Apple needs to fix this ASAP.

Definitely an all-around performance drop, and the contacts lag is the most annoying of all!! Really hope this is fixed in an update ASAP. It's driving me nuts!

There's a post on TUAW that says some developers think the version of 2.0 that was released was highly unstable.
I have noticed a drop in performance as well. Things just start to get "choppy" and I end up rebooting.

One thing I'm pleased about is on the old software if i paused a song on my headphones for too long and then went to press play again it would never play - now with the new 2.0 it'll play from the last spot no matter how long I wait to start it again

Yeah, loads of apps either crash on startup or just fail to load. Definitely something going on with the stability.

Also, has anyone noticed that graphics in most apps are really jerky - Crash Bandicoot is one of the worst, cro mag rally also.

When you play a video podcast from the "Podcasts" section (as opposed to the "Videos" section) it will play the video in either portrait or landscape. I thought it used to just show a still frame. Could be I just never tried it there!

This is actually kind of annoyance for me. There are some video podcasts that I listen to at work, and it was nice to be able to shut off the screen and save some battery power, but still have the option to watch the video later when I was on the bus.

I wish they hadn't taken this option away..

Couple of other improvements I've noticed

Version 2.0 improvements:

- The SMS app now preserves draft replies whereas these were deleted before if you exited a message or exited the app

- The Notes app now has spelling correction

Agreed. The liquid smooth UI of previous firmwares was one of the many joys of iPhone.
If I wanted laggy & choppy scrolling, I would have got "Generic LG/HTC/Samsung* Touchscreen Phone". :D

Has anyone noticed a very prominent lag in keyboard entry in the SMS app? Input will still be received, as i can type out a word all at once, but the keys aren't actually entered until about a second later, and a second in between hits.

oh okay. thats what that is thanks

i have checked and i know for sure that there is no alarm, i deleted all of them and it still stays for a while

when i volume down it stays at one square (won't go down any further) and the lines stay white/there.

Smaller keyboard?

Horizontal keyboard is slightly shorter. I thought it was my imagination at first but looking at some older screenshots it seems like each key is a few pixels smaller. Perhaps some prep work for more use of this keyboard layout (SMS, etc.)

Another think for Apple to fix is the lack of synchronicity between the calendar colours in iCal and the iPhone. The colour coding only syncs up when using MobileMe, not yet over the USB sync.

This is not true for me. I get my appointments with their appropriate color and I sync over USB.
