Apple files patents all the time. It doesn’t mean that they are going to use them soon or in the near future.
Do they really?
And thats why I specifically used the word "speculation". Never said they would use the tech soon or in the near future.

Sounds like you should of gotten the 8+ because you won’t see touchid on any flagship iPhone from now on..
It's not coming back. Time to move on.
I wish people would give up on this.
Apple has declared TouchID to be dead.
-- Dan Riccio, Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, Apple
So, about that TouchID in 2020 and beyond...
Its just amazing how people can sit there and declare information on the future.
But here’s the thing though, I know you quoted those other members, but there’s nothing concrete saying that we will for sure see touch ID on iPhones in 2020 or later. It’s All been rumors, and like many rumors, they’re not always true. But what we do know is the source himself, which is Tim Cook, explicitly stated face ID is the future for Apple, which likely will continue to expand the iPad/iPhone lineup, as Face ID still very much new in the segment of biometric security.
I’m not saying touch ID can’t happen for future iPhones, but I don’t believe it’s Apple’s primary focus, not when Face ID has so much R&D invested, that they’re obviously expanding it to other products in their lineup now.
I think a fair amount of that proclaiming are just exasperated responses to the constant bellyaching that goes on about anything that changes.Point was, how can people here just proclaim "this will never happen" or "that will happen" about stuff in the future?

It wasn't me making that declaration. So, about that TouchID in 2020 and beyond...

But then you get articles like this:
Apple might be planning to ditch Face ID in iPhones
Fast Company
That’s according to a report from the China Times that quotes an analyst at investment firm Credit Suisse in Asia who says Apple will begin phasing out its Face ID biometric authentication system in iPhones starting in 2020. The analyst believes that next year Apple will release one new model of iPhone without the notch or Face ID, instead opting to go with an under-screen front camera and full-screen acoustic fingerprint authentication—essentially a new version of Touch ID. I really can used either, even though I like FaceID better. If it does go away, I am sure I will get used to TouchID again!
Face ID works fine for me, but I like Touch ID better. Face ID doesn't work so well if it's too close, which is an annoyance when I need to check something while I'm in bed.
If Touch ID returned, it would have to be touch anywhere, and unlock with ONE TOUCH.
Then again, with Face ID you do end up touching the screen twice. Once to wake, then the swipe.
Logging into apps however, would take a hit.
With Raise to Wake enabled, I don't have to do the first "touch".
And to address the premise of this thread, I do not miss TouchID at all. Period.
It seems some people are in complete denial that this issue exists. It’s an annoyance for me also.
I'm going to give this a try. I've known it's there, but can't remember why I didn't like it. Possibly screen waking needlessly.
Same, Touch I what!?

Can "legit" say, this isn't an issue for me.

What if tapping the icon to open the app simultaneously authenticated with Touch ID?Logging into apps however, would take a hit.
