couldnt this become useful for say certain work environments where gloves are involved or say hands get dirty or greasy often?
No.

Have you seen how small those little plastic buttons are? How on earth would you use it with a glove. You'd be better off buying gloves that have special typing tips for screens. The ACTUAL iPhone keyboard keys are bigger and can also be made bigger with alternate software keyboards.

Not for me, but clever. Gotta give them props for stepping out with something out of the (current) mainstream.

Reminds me of this 2009 quote from John Gruber — but interestingly in the reverse way where Clicks is demonstrating “The Apple Way” of breaking convention .. by bucking the convention established by Apple itself!:

I think the question boils down to whether Apple is making a mistake by not making an iPhone with a hardware keyboard. I’m convinced the answer is no — that (a) there will never be an iPhone with a built-in hardware keyboard; and (b) Apple will not suffer for it. [...]

Are software touchscreen keyboards good for everyone? Certainly not. But this is another aspect of the Apple Way. Apple tries to make things that many people love, not things that all people like. The key is that they’re not afraid of the staunch criticism, and often outright derision, that comes with breaking conventions.

Cheers to their contrarian effort. I wish them luck!

Polycarbonate & Silicon,..way to go for the environment. Not only will nobody buy these gimmick plastic cases, the remainder of stock will end up as more landfill.
Then you may as well complain about every single toy made for every kid on the planet, where plastic reigns. And a
million other every day consumer objects.

Well, as absolutely awful as the typing experience is on an iPhone or any other ubiquitous slab
What is awful about typing on iPhone? I honestly can’t imagine using a physical keyboard ever again on my phone. I recently found an old Motorola droid I had from over 10 years ago and just holding it in landscape typing on it was terrible lol

But….all of my potato chip crumbs will get stuck in between and under the keys. And the beach….lotta sand there.

Oh my arthritic fingers would not love this.

Yes. They are trying to find a way to fill a need. As good as the iPhone is at many things, there are many tasks it does not do well. A lot of typing, touch typing without looking at the keyboard is just one example.

The Droid was never considered even a mediocre keyboard...

Let me count the ways....Joking aside, no tactile sensation, reliance on auto-correct that in turn makes a tremendous number of mistakes, can't touch type, can't type for pages without looking at the keyboard, no quick effective short cuts such as slightly longer press etc. And this rolls over to other applications. For example in a browser, a simple press of the "space bar" move the page down one screen, etc.

Or if like me, I sometimes have trouble "activating" the key on a screen. Escpecially when in a humid environment: not an issue with a PKB

I do! Head on over to toyrumors.com.👍

What have reusable toys got to with iPhone model specific pieces of cheap polyrubbish?

dang that looks so uncomfortable. I wouldn't buy it but ngl I would play with it for a few minutes & then toss it.

There was a time when all smartphones had keyboards. Nobody could even imagine not having a keyboard.

Then some daring companies started introducing all-screen smartphones. Sexy!

For a while... both QWERTY smartphones and all-screen smartphones were on the market together. But slowly the sales of all-screen smartphones began to overtake the QWERTY smartphones. The market had spoken. And QWERTY smartphones were eventually discontinued.

Is it time for them to come back? I'm not so sure. But I definitely don't think this is the way.

Hahaha I love this. I used to love texting on my old Nokia. The T9 software was quick and easy to use and I could type messages with my eyes closed or the lights off because it was so straight forward.

Some of the best phones I had were my original Handspring Treo, BlackBerry 7230, Nokia E61 and E71
