My hatred of the Yankees is at odds with my hatred of the Houston Cheaters (aside from Dusty).

As a kind-of Red Sox fan I don’t really like the Yankees, but I don’t dislike them enough to want bad things to happen to them. Similarly the Astros I don’t really like, the whole cheating episode did colour my view of them a bit, but respect for putting a consistently strong team out there for a number of years.

But I don’t really like the Phillies either. So the Padres are my least-bad option to win. Go the Padres!

meh

Same.

Still can't stand Machado though. I keep expecting to find out he's got a bunch of bodies hidden somewhere a la Aaron Hernandez...

Same. Based on that I can't see him winning a WS...

And Bochy has signed on to manage the Texas Rangers for 3 years...

Now I'm remembering the 2002 World Series was exactly 20 years ago. Even the three subsequent World Series wins doesn't dull the residual ache of that failure.

And good for Boch if he feels he's up to the challenge in Arlington. He's already a lock for the Hall of Fame, and there are plenty of older managers out there still doing well despite all the changes in the game.

I'm actually kind of rooting for the Yankees because it would be great for Aaron Judge to cap off his historic season with a World Series win,

And then walk because they disrespected him in contract talks before the season.

I'm rooting for the Phillies, but The Astros look to well rounded, too powerful. Waking up this morning and seeing the Astros sweep the Yankees made what otherwise be a dreary Monday, so much more sweeter and pleasant :)

As someone who grew up in and was an active member of Red Sox Nation
Yep. :)

Every post season the Yankee's bats disappear, this is no different. I gotta believe Aaron Boone won't be coming back for 2024. When you have the likes of Judge, and stanton - nearly lose to Cleveland but then you get swept by the Astros. Its not because of lack of talent.

Agreed. Some managers just don’t get the most from their squads in the postseason.

I wasn't following them, but I believe they incurring a late season slide that almost endangered their bye for the playoffs. Their bats were largely silent, and I guess Boone has made odd managerial decisions that later came back to haunt them, or at the very least didn't help them.

What's funny, is they hired a Baseball colorman from ESPN with zero managerial experiences and as he kept dropping the ball but Cashman/Steinbrenner kept giving him chances. What's funny is they fired Joe Giradi because they felt he wasn't doing enough to get them through the playoffs and hired a guy with no experience and kept doing the same thing, i.e., not getting to the WS

Yet the Phillies fired Girardi and the moment they did, they became a WS team.

I regard Girardi as a good manager. So curious on the locker room dynamics in Philly......

Hitting in the postseason is a tough gig. You're facing tougher pitchers in higher leverage situations. I also think the classic Sabermetric "three true outcomes" breaks down a bit in these situations, so teams that can scrape runs together with more situational hitting can have an advantage. If you rely on the long ball too much, the bats can go too silent.

That said, what really seemed to kill the Yankees off was their critical defensive mistakes.

Saw something interesting this morning.
