Hey,

"As an aside, for you guys that want to watch games in-market, just search for a free proxy and set that in the connection settings for your browser."

Can you explain how that's done. You can PM me or email me if you don't want to mention it online.

Here's what to do: Open System Preferences and go to Flip4Mac. Click the 'Movie' tab, and check the "Create streaming movies" box. This ought to allow you to skip Everybody Loves Raymond.
This appears to have done the trick!!!

Thanks!!!

Hrm...so that worked at first. But now, whenever I try to skip ahead (or back) it stops playing and says "Unauthorized" in the progress bar.

Here's how I got mlb.tv to work On my macbook pro...

Ok, I did several things trying to figure out how in the world to get this to work. The main thing that helped was this site

http://www.osnews.com/story.php?news_id=13902

Follow these instructions and then after that I downloaded the powerpc version of firefox at

http://www.mozilla.com/

Then I fired up the Rosetta firefox and an archive game of the tigers from earlier today and BAM!! There it is.
I found an intel mac build of firefox as well called Deer Park on the mozilla site. It runs faster than safari but neither that build nor safari would open mlb.tv.
I also downloaded windows media player 9 and reel player. I'm not sure if that influenced it but I believe the flip4mac did it. I kept safari and quicktime in rosetta (like the link said to do) but i'm not sure if that's helping the firefox thing. I guess that until flip4 goes universal, this is the only way to go for windows crap on intel macs, use all rosetta apps.

Hope this helps

Mlb.tv On Mac Working Now

OK I have a non-intel powerbook running on 10.4 and I finally have a perfectly working feed (thanks to info from this discussion thread and a few other sites).

Essentially, follow the instructions from post #36 from themanfromvlad. IMPORTANT: in windows media player, you must UNCHECK the following from PREFERENCES -> NETWORK SETTINGS tab: Multicast, UDP, and TCP which leaves ONLY HTTP with a check.

Believe me, I have tried multiple set ups on all available mac browsers and this is by far the best solution. I did get a good feed using firefox and flip4mac but it hung up a lot.....

Hope this helps! Thanks to themanfromvlad for much of the heavy lifting

I sent this to Bud Selig, Bob Bowman, and Customer Service.

To everyone it may concern;

I am sure you are inundated with email regarding your less than acceptable MLBtv service. Obviously this is a critical issue if you are causing great frustration with your product. Baseball fans are "PAYING" for a service, because you offer it. If I were to go to Best Buy and pay for a good or service, and it was broken, they would do what ever it took to make it right. I have read fellow fans say they would not give MLB their money, so you are losing customers with your poor customer service.

My issue; I paid 100 dollars for your All Access service during the World Baseball Classic, yet I have little or no access. I use Apple OSX 10.4.6. I found out Real Player was gone, but accepted this as I read you were enhancing your product. I have not been able to watch via Windows Media Player your supported player AT ALL, even after 5 calls to your technical support, of which hold times surpassed 60 minutes each time. That is 5 hours of hold time, and in my industry I bill out at 85 an hour, shall I send you a bill?

I managed to install an unsupported work around called Flip4Mac, which makes me even more frustrated. Your listed software requirements do not work, but I manage to install some third party software that allows me to see "limited" amounts of the streams. I watch from this flip4mac program, then it stalls out. Ok I re-login, but after I do this 2x in a 30 min time frame, it tells me I have logged in too many times!!! This is absurd, isn't this my account, how could I have been logged in too many times. Then I can't even retry to load the game and deal with sporadic service, I have to sit out the game! A COMPLETE LOSS and waste of 30 minutes of my time.

And your condensed games / highlights never load. Should I be punished for using Apple computers?

I see all the hype about this new Mosaic Player, oh right, like I will be able to watch 6 games, how, when I get a headache watching 1?

To be honest, I have subscribed for 2 years, and it has always been difficult, but now it is impossible. I gave you 1 month (In to the regular season mind you) So with the time I have struggled with this, and the lost viewing time, I have surpassed the value of the service 10 times over.

You offer your customers no viable support options, no detailed instructions, no alternatives. How can a large operation such as MLB offer such an inferior product. I know now you will discard my email, and say oh no one is having these issues, it is just this guy complaining. Maybe you should do some quick searches, for "MLB TV and frustration" on any popular search engine, because there is a large number of people having the exact issue, and they want to tell you, they just do not have the ability, since your phones and email go unanswered.

ESPN doesn't have these issues (with a free service mind you) Get with the times, or start refunding money. I am going to give you 1 more month to sort this out, otherwise I am going to reverse the charges and encourage others to as well. Please get in touch with me.

Most Sincerely,

Andrew

MLB.TV on an Intel Mac

Here's what I did to get the best out of MBL.TV on my Intel Mac:

1st: Install Flip4Mac
At the moment, there's no Universal Binary version of Flip4Mac.
So you have to do a little trick to use Flip4Mac on your Intel powered Mac.
- Download the latest Flip4Mac WMV plugin from www.flip4mac.com.
- In Finder, go to /Applications/Utilities and click on the application "Installer".
- Hit Apple+I on your keyboard to show the Info panel.
- Activate the "Open using Rosetta" box.
- Install the Flip4Mac you just downloaded.
- Go back to the Finder and deactivate "Open using Rosetta" in the Info panel of "Installer".

2nd: Set Flip4Mac to play files in Quicktime
You won't be able to access the preference pane of Flip4Mac, so we have to cheat again and set the preferences by ourselves.
- Download my preference-file at http://www.milkdev.com/temp/net.telestream.wmv.plugin.plist and save it to /***YOUR_HOME_DIRECTORY***/Library/Preferences/

3rd: Set up Quicktime and Safari
The Universal Binary of Quicktime won't be able to handle the Flip4Mac plugin. So... you know ;)
- Mark Quicktime in the /Applications folder in Finder and activate the "Open using Rosetta" box.

You can deactivate the box whenever you want Quicktime to play non-WMV videos to get better performance (for example if you watch HD videos).

Also, Safari won't recognize that there's a plugin that is able to play WMV files. Because you won't want to revive the 56k modem times, we make a copy for surfing the MLB.TV site with Rosetta and use the Intel Version of Safari for everything else.
- Right-click (Cmd-click) Safari in the /Applications folder in Finder and choose "Duplicate".
- Rename the copy of Safari to "Safari Rosetta".

4th: How to watch MLB.TV when everything's set up properly
So everything is finally done and a great game is upcoming. Here's how you can watch it!
- Open "Safari Rosetta", surf to www.mlb.tv, login and select the game you want to watch.

Quicktime will then launch using Rosetta and you're able to watch the games in full screen if you own Quicktime Pro or at least zoom to fit your screen.

It works pretty well for me. At least this is the best option I know until a Universal Binary of Flip4Mac is released or MLB.TV decides to support RealPlayer, again.

This should also work for any other WMV files as long as they are not DRM-WMV files.

Hope I could help! :)

Has anyone tried popwire - it is supposed to be similar to flip4mac, but it is a universal binary. I don't have a subscription to MLB, or else I would try it myself.

I just tried it, but it doesn't work.

Popwire's WMV component can only import and export WMV files, but not play them directly.

Seems like we have to wait until Flip4Mac will be released as a Universal Binary.

milkdev,

I followed your instructions on my MacBook Pro but, when I try to access mlb tv, it still brings up WMP not QT. How do I get the video stream to play through QT rather than WMP? Thanks

You can try to delete the WindowsMedia related files in the system's and your "Library/Internet Plug-Ins" and "Library/Quicktime" folders.

I don't have the Windows Media Player installed, so I don't know for sure if it works, but it's worth a try.

A beta version of the Flip4Mac WMV Plugin is announced to be availlable in early May, so this workaround will hopefully not be needed anymore in a few days.

Preference file is missing....

Hi,

my webserver had a hard disc crash last week, so the file was gone.
I uploaded it again for you, it can be downloaded from:
http://www.milkdev.com/temp/net.telestream.wmv.plugin.plist

Regards

Can you put that link back up, please?

hey,

i've been having a similar problem, and am dearly wanting to watch some games. I've tried the link, but it says it's no longer working. Thanks in advance!

I changed my Webhoster.. the file is availlable, again.

It may be of interest for you that there's a Universal Binary beta of the Flip4Mac WMV Player. I'll send you a PM.. ;)

I posted a working link to the UB and release notes for the F4M components beta over at the Apple forums. Just look under my sig over there.

So does this mean all we have to do is download the UB for flip4for Mac and we wil be able to watch full screen??

I have tried to dowload the Media Player 9 for Mac and I get this icon thing for Media Stix and when i go to open it it asks me to choose an application. I dowloaded the Flip4Mac thing too but when I go to watch a game on mlb.tv it says I don't have the plug ins etc and I can't figure out how to do this ... my husband is devasted he can't watch the Yankees because we can't get Direct TV(too many trees!)

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hey folks...just wanted to say thanks for all the discussion in this thread.

My apartment complex won't allow the Direct TV HD dish, so I'm stuck for the first time in years watching the Cards on MLB.TV which sucks, but it's better than nothing.

I came with a ton of questions and because of you all I now have it working (acceptably well) on my intel iMac, my PowerBook and mirroring to Plasma Screen TV and Sound system.

Thanks so much!

Ehhh, the Cards should only be watched over-the-air on a 10" Sylvania w/ a pair of bunny ears.

Signed,
a miserable Cubs fan...
:D :D :D

Maybe Sweet Lou and that $300 million will get you all a third place finish this year! :D

Oh, and sorry about Jason Marquis, I wouldn't even wish him on Cubs' fans.

I just got my (15") MBP and I love it.

I ALSO just got a subscription to mlb.tv. Except for not being able to watch it in full screen, I love it.

I've read a lot of posts and tried some of the things you guys suggested

( 1) I had to d/l firefox to get it to work
2) I downloaded flip4mac
3) I tried removing plugin files from my library/internet plugins
4) I downloaded the full screen quicktime widget
5) I also did something in system preferences of quicktime....Checked some box or something, I don't remember I can't find it anymore)

None of these things worked.

I don't understand how it could play in quicktime (not in a plugin)

You click on a link which brings up a new, smaller window where the game (and various menus) play.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Here's how I got full screen:

1) In the Flip4Mac settings in System Prefs, select the option that says something like launch quicktime rather than open video in browser.

Then, when you lauch the video it will open in quicktime

2) Then, when the video is running in quicktime, use the quicktime fullscreen script to make it full screen.
