What about on the desktop with the Mail app???

Nice feature for browser .me users, but then it's an annoyance when it's not in parity with the desktop. Yes, you can upload and link to manually, but it's not as convenient, and you can't set passwords or expiration.

It isn't ready. I just sent myself a pdf and it added some additional extension letters at the end making the file unreadable. I had to fix the extension back to pdf. We expect the end recipient to fix all our attachments we send? We don't do that with email.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5H11 Safari/525.20)

I'm glad that they didn't give up onthis feature. I was very excited about it when it was first talked about.

Not sure if I'm ready to swallow mobileme hook, line and sinker yet. I have been disappointed too many times. I will wait to see what you guys think after a few days. Until then, I will stick with dropbox. It just works.

It would be great to have it integrated into your desktop. But, heck this is a start. I have been waiting for this feature for a long time.

You can set expiration dates and passwords on the MM website. I just tested it and it worked great!

This is cool and all, but does anyone know why iDisk is so darn slow?

Is there any good explanation? I often have to use another server, like lunarpages, when I need to upload large files.

iDisk is actually pretty damn fast. It's the horrendous FTP client in the Finder that just sucks. If you use a proper FTP client (like Transmit or whatnot) you'll see the true speed of iDisk, which isn't bad.

But I agree; Apple really, really needs to fix that Finder of theirs.

Now here's the $25,000 Question: How do I share a file from my desktop (meaning: without going into the MobileMe website)?

Yes, it needs access from regular mail. A check box after you've attached files saying "send files via MobileMe". It seems such a basic request that, given it doesn't have it, I don't expect to see.

Now, to be able to access Mobileme from your iPhone or iPod touch and send a file to someone, that would be very nice.

This seems more likely. iDisk access on the iPhone and sending files that are within iDisk. Perhaps even (for emails on your iPhone) saving received files to iDisk.

Great!!

Just found out about it and I actually needed it this afternoon when I sent files to the publisher!! Came in handy at the right time.

Cheers.:):apple:

I believe the phrase "at bloody last" is appropriate here.

Right!

Good to know. I wasn't too upset about the upload download speed, since for me it was a matter of the network I was on at any given time, and since I was a .Mac user that abandoned the iDisk because it was a joke. Now it's pretty useful, and this long lost feature makes it even more so.

I am off to get a copy of Fetch/Transit now.

Just went and played around with it. Pretty sweet. Now here's the $25,000 Question: How do I share a file from my desktop (meaning: without going into the MobileMe website)?

You can do this with a handy little app called "File Chute". I use it all the time with my mobile me account to share files.

Mobileme behind corporate firewall would be nice

I hate that I can't use my idisk at work. Weird thing is that I can sync photo albums from within iPhoto, but I can't use idisk even in the web client. I have authoxy loaded, which helps with some things, but not all things.

Where's the announcement?

Gee and just when is Apple going to let me know of this? I happened to be browsing thru and have to read about it here. Another Apple secret??? As a long-time .mac (mobile me) subscriber, you'd think they'd let me in on it!!!

Apple posted it on the MobileMe news page about an hour after this thread started. If you want the latest news on MobileMe, you should visit this page often (http://www.apple.com/mobileme/news/) and subscribe to its RSS feed.

im still having a tough time getting exited about mobile me. i need more upgrading before its going to really appeal to me

mobileme & iWork.com

apple should just merge mobileme and iWork.com. two services will confuse the consumer.

in my apple wish-list, mobileme Pro server, a 999USD add-on to macos x server for the small biz.

I don't see all the fuss (Admittedly I haven't put in the effort to opening my iDisk yet and playing so I am only going form this thread).

So the concept is, I can upload files to this shared folder and share it with anyone in the world? (And I can add a password to it for sensitive docs)

I have been doing this for 2 yrs with my public folder (as a number of other people have commented).

So what's the difference?

Personally, I'd make iWork.com free like google docs and merge mobile me into the OS.
