I don't see all the fuss (Admittedly I haven't put in the effort to opening my iDisk yet and playing so I am only going form this thread).

So the concept is, I can upload files to this shared folder and share it with anyone in the world? (And I can add a password to it for sensitive docs)

I have been doing this for 2 yrs with my public folder (as a number of other people have commented).

So what's the difference?

The difference is, you can send out links to specific files so the people you are sharing with don't just see a long list of your "public" files, they see only the one specific file you want to share with them, and only for the length of time you specify.

Ah cool, totally get it now, thanks mate :D

iDisk is actually pretty damn fast. It's the horrendous FTP client in the Finder that just sucks. If you use a proper FTP client (like Transmit or whatnot) you'll see the true speed of iDisk, which isn't bad.

But I agree; Apple really, really needs to fix that Finder of theirs.

I agree. You can't even create a new folder using Finder's FTP client.

Do I smell a lawsuit?? sniff sniff

Nah.. too few and timid MMe users!

Here we go, another entitlement. Why do you feel entitled to things like this or anything? If you do not like it or Apple's practices then cancel your service and sell your Mac. Wait, are you entitled to a Mac?

I have been using .mac / MobleMe for years. I have two desktops, 3 Apple laptops, and a iPhone synchronized with iSync. I synchronize my contacts, calendar, keychain, mail accounts, and bookmarks. I use iDisk to share files and Mobile Me to access this item. In my opinion, it is well worth the cost. My Windows friends are jealous. Try to do the same with XP and a Blackberry.

As a system architect and a past software developer I understand plans do not always work out as envisioned. The best customer(s) is the one who understands and works with you when there are unforeseen circumstances.

In my business we have a notion of firing difficult customers. Your are fired. :)

Yes, it needs access from regular mail. A check box after you've attached files saying "send files via MobileMe". It seems such a basic request that, given it doesn't have it, I don't expect to see.

This seems more likely. iDisk access on the iPhone and sending files that are within iDisk. Perhaps even (for emails on your iPhone) saving received files to iDisk.

I bet this will be in Snow Leopard

Now, if Apple would only fix all the buggy issues related to uploading files to iDisk, such as:

1) No real progress bar or estimated time for uploads.
2) Impossible to stop uploads (hitting stop doesn't stop it).
3) Uploading to iDisk from the Finder regularly causes spinning beach balls, screen freezes, crashes, etc. (see #4)
4) If you have a computer freeze while uploading, forcing a restart, you can't delete the incomplete file for at least 5 minutes (says "File is in Use"), in order to start upload again.

I understand those issues...I have had most of them as well, except for number 2. What browser are you using?

Just using Mac OSX Finder (Tiger), no browser involved with those issues.

Right now, my Finder under Leopard has been trying for over an hour to delete a 4GB folder from my iDisk public folder. Progress bar stuck near the end.

it is simply a very buggy and clumsy implementation of OSX Finder control over iDisk, and always has been. I still use it a lot anyway, because it serves my purposes well despite the hassles.

Oh yeah that happens to me all the time. I though you were talking about uploading through the online interface. My bad.
