nice feature

once again...

Here is how you can stay up to date with the mac.com and me.com's page status:

jacklinkproductions.com/refresher.html

this page will refresh mac.com and me.com in the same window every 5 seconds. (idk... but apple might kill me for this.):)

As fun as this is... im going to go see a movie... be back in a few hours ... hopefully not to this forum... or maybe to lots of "its working so well i think i forgot to do (generic important thing)... just cant get over it" posts.

Yeah, have to hang it up here too. Hopefully won't see you folks in this thread again later!

Night (or whatever the sky status might be where you are) to all!

Me too... thanks for the giggle. See you in a happier thread!

Also... can you put whether it is or not in the page title... cause then i dont have to actually open the tab.

Yes! That would be genius, with auto refreshing and a better tittle, you could make a site like this for all of apple's further releases! Muahaha

Who removed my post?
All I said is you can get a cheap prepaid card with $1 on it and use it to sign up for the trial.
It's legal.

Yeah, definitely. And you know, freak out, but I just turned off WiFi to check, but unlike the iTunes Store which is still WiFi-only, the App Store works over EDGE.

And when I was punching in my password, a free app but it still makes you verify your iTunes App Store account password, they've changed the password entry interface so it shows the last character typed, so you can see it's right, and then flips it to a bullet when you type the next character. Not so many flubbed passwords on the touch keyboard. Cool.

Although Mobile Me is frustrating the heck out of a lot of us (and yes, I know it will eventually work -- at least for the 90% of the time .Mac did), the App Store is a different story altogether: worked immediately, smooth as silk, visually slick, full of typical Apple goodness!

Sad to say, I've already spent too much on iPhone apps, and I've only had the 2.0 firmware for 6 hours (during most of which I was working!).

the mobileme...

first time i'm getting iphone tomorrow so hopefully 2.0 is already built in on there...;)

I would rather the Mobileme website be working rather than be concerned about the 2.0 software on the iPhone, at least you can download that.

Automatically checking for MobileMe

If you have fink installed (http://www.finkproject.org/) here's a neat way to effortlessly keep track of when mobile me comes up.

You'll need to install

1) watch
2) wget
3) md5sum (I think this is installed by default)

After you've installed this simply open up a terminal and type...

watch -n 60 "wget http://www.me.com/ &> /dev/null && md5sum index.html && rm index.html"

(you might want to cd to a temp directory first, the quotes "" are important)

This will check for mobile me every 60 seconds. If you see the number:

2b75f2a13371de4d5c259cd9c2e94004

then unfortunately MobleMe is not up, but if this number changes in anyway chances are it is. If you're really impatient change -n 60 to -n 30 to check every 30 seconds, but try not to go lower than that because otherwise you'll really flood the servers :)

Is this your site? If so, let me make a suggestion. Change the title of the page to this:

- If MobileMe is down, the title should be "Is MobileMe up? No."
- If MobileMe is up, the title should be "Is MobileMe up? Yes."

That way, the site can be refreshing in the background, and all I have to do is look at the tab to see the status.

Just my suggestion...

Like everyone else, I'm excited about trying out the new features of mobile me, and so this prolonged delay in experiencing this loftier service is frustrating. I only add that it would be nice if Apple saw it fit to send its .Mac subscribers an update of some kind, so we're not all in the dark on when our promised upgrade will be realized. I find it unfortunate that Apple isn't communicating with its $99 .Mac membership base; it's not as thought Apple doesn't have our e-mail addresses.

Oh well, the secrecy continues.

Guys,

I dont know I have been following this all day and I have not been able to get he me.com or mac.com to load at all. ALL DAY.

I keep hearing people trying it out, and saying it is slow, I can;t sem to even get to a log in screen!

Am I missing something?
