You can forward your domain e-mail from Google Apps to MobileMe, then use Gmail as your SMTP server. This will allow you to use push e-mail and still send using your domain. I do that now with Gmail & Fastmail but I will be switching to MobileMe in 2 days!

1. Yes. You may use your own domain name!
2. No. You can create aliases but they all will be "<alias>@me.com"

But still you can use the email address give to you free by DNR (if DNR did give you one) by adding it as pop (atleast this was the case in .Mac)!

Website, yes they claim to. Email, I'm not sure. But when I tried to get .mac to host my website they only gave out a Cname instead of nameserver info, and my domain name provider would not accept the Cname.

Thanks for the info!

can someone link me to a page where it says mobileme will be $69 with purchase of a iphone 3g? cant seem to find it on apple.com. also, do at&t stores carry .mac/mobileme?

I just hope it actually works as advertised and that it is dependable. I think the service was better when it was free as itools.

As .Mac I have had these problems.
Sync worked sometimes but other times it completely corrupted my contacts and/or bookmarks. Sometimes it just refused to sync.

.Mac email was about 95% dependable but I am glad I had other pop servers because it seems to go out at the worst time. iDisk is dog slow and transferring larger files was weird. The progress bar would instantly complete and then hang for hours as the system closed the file. In other words, the progress reporting was a joke, lied, and didn't work right.

Here's hoping to a better experience with Mobileme. I don't see how it could get worse.

"Existing .Mac subscribers should already be able to send and receive emails at their new @me.com addresses. MobileMe retails for $99/year, but iPhone 3G (or Mac) buyers will be able to pick up a year subscription for $69 on July 11th"

Wow, I must have been out of the loop on this. I had never heard you could get the rebate with the purchase of the Iphone 3g. Anyone know how this is going to work - just another mail-in rebate?

Hehe every time the Apple store is down I get all excited. It's like xmas morning wondering what Santa Steve is going to bring us. God i've turned into such a fan boy.

The downside is that I have heard that AT&T are going to charge extra for enterprise features. It sounded like they meant push service as in MobileMe key features.

So on top of the $30.00 monthly data plan. SMS text is extra and enterprise / push features are extra. Sounds like a rip from AT&T. this has nothing to do with Apple but I think ultimately AT&T is going to hurt iphone 3g sales.

I've never done .Mac and am obviously new to MobileMe a well. Can someone tell me how much data storage space there is? The website just says "plenty" or something, lol. I'd like enough space to store all my important docs and all my pictures, plus some room to play with. Basically, i need over 20GB.

It starts out at 20GB but you can purchase more space.

Apple store is down. What can we expect from this?

And I will be subscribing to MobileMe when I buy my iPhone! :)

Also, how much extra does Apple charge for more storage space?

2.0 comes out by midnight on the 9th

taken directly from: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1932

What will I need for my iPhone or iPod touch to use MobileMe?
You will need to update to software version 2.0 or later to enable push mail, push contacts, push calendar, and push bookmarks. This software update will be available """when MobileMe launches""".

I would also expect updates to iPhoto (7.1.4 drops .Mac Slides from the toolbar and any references to .Mac change to MobileMe) and Mail.app (replacing built-in .Mac email account support for MobileMe).
to your surprise, .mac references are all over the place:
Address Book
iCal
iChat
iMovie
iPhoto
iSync
iTunes
iWeb
Mail
Safari
System Preferences

list goes on

Also wondering the same thing as I want to sign up for the cheap price. However I already started a .mac trial with the username I want... I bought a mbp within the past 6 months or so if that helps any.
