did you guys actually read the whole thread?

the screen was purchased separately. i.e., not taken out from a MBA and transplanted to the MB.

Geez.

Geez.

But it is a replacement screen for the Air. Why pay 1700$ for an Air just to get the screen out of it when you can get the same for 200$?

Also am I reading this right, you've wired up an extra hard drive so you now have 2 hard drives in there?

Where did the space come from? :S

Also I'd NEVER take my macbook apart, just my acer laptop :p

Here is how the laptop looks like right now, I'm liking the retro look:

WOW ! Respect for this successful mod... that's what I want to do on my upcoming MacBook Pro... I'm almost sure I'll hate the glass LCD (reflections).

How easy/hard was the panel design ? how did you make sure it would fit the lid ? Also, how sharp are the inner edges around the LCD surface ? is it where you wanted a bezel ? does it touch the surface of the keys ?

as for the "MacBook" logo... you could have it laser etched :)
(I'll just leave it as it is, no need for a logo to know it's an unibody Mac)

PS: how did you break the bluetooth cable ? where does it run ? is it glued to the glass and breaks when you remove the glass ?

He removed the optical drive and popped the second hard drive in the newly created space. Personally, I'm not quite so sure that's a sacrifice I could make.... :rolleyes:

Sexy, I think apple should add this extra HDD instead of the Optical as an option! I'd much rather have another 500GB (if not 320GB) extra space!

I hardly EVER use a disc... everything is downloadable these days.

Just got a new macbook and thinking of taking it apart to add an extra HDD now :p

I thought Macs have EFI instead of a conventional BIOS. I don't know crap about either of them, so please correct me if i'm wrong.

I don't know either. What I do know is that I've worked in the BIOS of a windows machine before. My guess is that Apple has something different, so you're probably right.

So, Apple version of BIOS.

Apple = EFI
Microsoft = BIOS

EFI is very different from BIOS.

Apple doesn't want you tinkering with EFI, so it would present a rather large challenge to change those settings.

MacBook Air bezel on a 13" Unibody MacBook Pro

I just finished a similar undertaking... I hate the glass so much.

I took the glass off (I shattered it in the process!) and found a cheap broken MacBook Air display on eBay. I pulled the bezel off, sanded down the edges because it was just BARELY too big to fit, and now I've got a brand new MacBook Pro -- the way it SHOULD have been, without glass. :)

I snapped some detailed pictures of the wire routing and everything else, also.

And I think I've found the best way to take off the glass (AFTER I broke mine, I got ahold of a couple displays with bad panels). I think the right way to do it is to remove the display, clutch cover, AirPort card and antenna, and take a big suction cup to the bottom area and gently pull. I had the most luck with this area and from there, I used an old gift card to gently separate the glass from the display.

I did crack the MacBook Air display more than it already was. :( The tape seemed a lot stronger than on the glass.

@tonyisweird

That looks VERY slick. Nicely done!

So just so I'm sure I understand... Is that a 13" MBP with just the MBA's bezel? Or is that actually the MBA's screen?

It's just the bezel itself... the hinges and cables are completely different from the air to the pro.

Congrats, but the LCD panel itself is still super glossy... you may want to stick an antiglare plastic sheet on this.

And the crucial question : what about warranty if you need it ?

Yes... I keep searching for an antiglare replacement panel but I can't get any vendor to guarantee I'll receive an antiglare display... they all seem to back away when I insist I need anti-glare. Anyone know of any good cheap sources?

Luckily I know a service provider, so I won't have a problem... but in my experience, if you go to an apple store and complain loud enough, they'll eventually take care of you. ;)

great job! the glass is the one thing keeping me away from a 13" MBP. if it had the MBA screen, i'd have bought it already. i'm not as brave as you though.

i know this is an old thread but..

hey everyone im planning on ordering a bezel similar to wat the op used here, what are the measurements? i went through the thread and didnt see anything about the dimensions he used... from what i understand front panel express has their own software that you can design your panel with. so if any one can help with the dimensions required for this it would be greatly appriciated

Templet

cryonic49 can you post your templet file for the bezel? I have been wanting to do this and just found this thread.
