Well, I'll buy a mbp the firsts days of august, do you think Montevina will be available by then???, I think Intel is releasing Montevina the 15th of July, normally how much time does apple take to release the new laptops with the new Intel architecture,processors,etc.??

Possible Launch Date for Montevina MBP

If Apple follows the same 8~9 months release cycle for each MBP refresh, Montevina MBP will be launched in October of 2008. However, if we use the Santa Rosa platform refresh back on May 10th 2007 as Intel official launch date, it took Apple less than a month to release Santa Rosa MBP on June 5th 2007.

Assuming Apple followed the Santa Rosa pattern for Montevina official launch date on July 14th 2008, we may expect Montevina MBP in second week of August. You may refer to MBP refresh dates below as reference.

Do you really think we will have the option for quad core MBP? I asked few months ago and people told me that we won't see them till 2009. Do you still think it is a valid argument or do you believe that we will actually get quad core? I would love to wait for quad :)

Thank you, I really hope Montevia mbp's are released the first weeks of august, i dont want to buy a Santa Rosa one when an upgrade is so close.

I really don't care about montevina, nehalam or what the future revisions of chipsets and processors are called.

I just want the "new" keyboard from the macbook and the macbook air in the new macbook pro. That's all I'm waiting for.... seriously!

Really? I so hope they won't do that as it would look really bad. The silver keyboard is really nice and it goes greatly with the style of the laptop. Putting there the one from macbook or MBA is like taking the word PRO from the name and replace it with DELL. Macbook Dell would that be :)

QC QX9300 2.53GHz/12MB 45W will be available for Montevina platform from other notebook vendors initially. For Montevina MBP it will be less likely due to TDP. Unless Intel managed to improve QC in newer stepping with 35W TDP, such as the rumored QC Q9100 2.26GHz/12MB around Q1 2009, then Apple may use QC as BTO models.

These processors specs are available upon Montevina update (Q2 2008):

MBP
Intel T9600 Penryn 1066MHz/6MB 2.80GHz 35W
Intel T9400 Penryn 1066MHz/6MB 2.53GHz 35W

I really like the keyboard design of the macbook air!

I got the external keyboard from apple and it works very great for me in terms of usabilty. A friend of mine has an macbook pro, I tried typing and the "feeling" isn't quite as good as with the new keyboard. :cool:

Bye

i'll be so glad i purchased the current MBP..
having black on a silver doesn't appeal me at all.

Blu-ray Support in Montevina MBP?

Montevina integrated graphics device may support the following general features, it is about time for MBP refresh with blu-ray option:

* HDMI 1.3
* Display Port
* Integrated HDCP

Montevina MBP will support 8GB RAM given that the desktop counter part (GM45 chipset) support up to 16GB RAM.

Both existing MBP keyboard and MB style keyboard look good on its own. Though moving toward more MB style keyboard will further helped Apple to reduce the cost on keyboard parts.

DDR3L 1.35V to Further Improvement Power Consumption

An improved DDR3 standard has been presented by JEDEC called DDR3L (low voltage) from the initial 1.5V down to 1.35V, another 20% power saving. With continue improvement on fabrication, 1.25V or lower can be achieved. This will further improve devices using DDR3 memory modules. Source

Since Montevina platform will be the first platform update to use DDR3 memory, we may expect DDR3L to become an option. 6+ hours battery life on MBP is not a dream.

Woah! My life will be finally complete if that happens. I'd kill myself to preserve the level of happiness I'd be feeling. :eek:

(OK, that's a slight exaggeration, but I'd be pretty content. Hehe. ;))

How many existing MB/MBP owners here are waiting for Montevina Platform 08?

Sorry about coming here so late, what are going to be the new key features of the new MacBook Pro? When is it coming out?

Montevina MBP possible release dates:

or
* October 2008 (if follow MBP normal release recycle, 8~9 months)

Is that even official? For all we know they could just stick another 8600m in..

No, it's not official, but very likely. It wouldn't make financial incentive for Apple to stick another 8600m both from cost and performance perspective. MB will soon receive integrated graphics device (4500MHD) update which will bring faster graphics performance than its predecessor. It wouldn't make sense to use the same 8600M for MBP upon platform chipset update while other competitors used much faster discrete graphics device. Montevina update is not just speedbump refresh, it is the platform update. Montevina platform also aims to bring longer battery life, MBP will benefit from smaller die (55nm) Nvidia chipset such as 9xxx series.
