Mainly because I am a textual/visual communicator. I really dislike speaking to people on the phone.

Just the opposite here. Can't stand texting. So you start to see the reasons for my numbers. :p

As a side note, I hadn't considered rollover minutes. I don't have those now so it never entered my thoughts. I guess I should re-analyze my last 12 months of use and see if some months were lighter than others. If so, rollover minutes might make a difference.

Probably not, but worth checking!

I look at it this way...

It costs me $20 more to have an iPhone rather than a regular phone, but that $20 includes 200 txt's, which would cost me $5 for the regular phone.

That makes it $15 more per month for the iPhone than a regular phone with 200txt messages...

For me that is worth it...

With two iPhones, and unlimited texting on a family plan, it would be $40 more (20 per iPhone) more than a pair of regular phones, since the unlimited family txting is $30 either way...

Your $55 with unlimited texting with Verizon sounds like a good deal. I thought $60 was the best you could get there...

I was on the T-Mobile Blackberry prior to the iPhone, so I was currently using a lot features (internet, SMS, AIM, etc.) and my monthly bill averaged around $57. With the iPhone, my bill went up around $65. So, for $8 more I'm getting improved current features, a ton of new features, and a phone that is actually fun to use and incredibly reliable. It wasn't a huge price jump.

I don't text, I e-mail. I often write messages rather than calling just because I can get my thoughts out accurately. Speeking face to face is the same way because in the words of Seifeld I'm a "Hand Talker". So I only call people as a last resort.

well im in the process of switching back to my sidekick. now before all the bashing beings let me explain that the iphone is a wonderful device that was sold to the wrong provider. no offense, but att sucks. i never had service (bars in more places my ass), had more dropped calls in one month that i have ever had my entire life, and paying too much compared to other internet devices. i think the iphone is a wonderful piece of technology but when apple gave the iphone to att, it ruined it. the iphone still needs a couple more updates as well as the developer kit to hit the street asap. come on apple, a regular cell phone can do IM but the iphone cant?!

the iphone looks pretty and has all the specs under the hood but until they tweak it more and allow other people to make it the phone it was supposed to be, then it will be the jesus phone. until then, ill be here waiting and hoping for the day that att is NOT the only provider of the iphone

if you have verizon do you pay for incoming and outgoing calls as well???

If you're seriously contemplating and losing sleep over, how you're going to come up with an extra $25 a month. Then a $400 cell phone is probably not something you should be looking at. $25 is like what, lunch for a day or a round of drinks.

haha im 18...and i have payed for my phone bill ever since i was 14. and 400$ for an iphone is not one of my worries because apple makes quality products. you pay for what you get

The monthly data package is WAAAAY overpriced. Think about it, unlimited data and only 200 txts? What a rip off. You're running on a slow EDGE network. How much data can you possible stream in a month's time to say it is worth $20. If you look at it from the point that Time Warner Cable is about $50 a month and most of the guys here probably download gigs and gigs worth of data, then $20 for EDGE data connectivity and 200 txts is a rip off.

I got the $20 data package plus the extra $10 for the 1500 txts because 200 txts just don't cut it. I'll probably discontinue the data package since 80 hours of the week I'm at the hospital which has wireless connectivity. The rest of it, I'm mostly at home, or in Barnes studying.

It's not that I can't afford it, but it's about principles. If we let these companies take us for fools, they'll continue to rape us any way possible. We've already let them sell us the phone at full retail, now we're gonna let them take more of our money with the overpriced data plan? I don't think so.

I get 550+/- MB out of my iPhone data plan and I use all 200 messages all the time. beleive me, I get my money's worth. Also that and the fact that my most heavy uses are at a Wi-Fi hotspot...imagine more traffic through my EDGE AT&T account, AT&T would flip and call me a tether...lol. Any way, its worth with for all the cool features...plus its cheaper than other iPhone plans (the ones in Europe)

It's not that ovepriced. I actually think it's pretty reasonable. VZW charges $40+ for their data plans with no text, just data. Though I'll admit they run off of EVDO networks which are faster.

Still, EDGE is pretty decent where I live (Northern California). It's worked great for me pretty much wherever I go and I use it a lot when I'm bored.

Of course I also secretly tether to a 3g phone when I need internet access on my laptop so I'm hoping AT&T doesn't find out...

I do not think that it is way over priced, a friend of mine just got a blackberry pearl from t-mobile, he had to sign up for a regular plan then pay $20/month more for email, that doesn't include internet, just email.
