I live in Berlin and have LTE 95% (5% 3g). Tell me, where exactly do you live? I call your post a lie.

that was near Potsdamer Platz on the U-Bahn and i have Telekom. To be honest I just moved here but back in Stuttgart its also horrible. 60% of the commute between the city center to my work place on the sbahn had no phone service. For example it shows 3G but nothing is loading. It was better the last few weeks cuz not as many people where around. The ICE ride from Stuttgart up to Berlin also had a lot of black holes. Same in Frankfurt, 5 minutes out of the city and boom edge

5G is just beginning to roll out now and the technology now and 5 years from now will be like night and day! Plus, 4G LTE is good enough for most people’s needs.

I am waiting for Apple to release an 5.4” iPhone 12 Pro!

Don’t really care to be honest. My country still needs to role out LTE nationwide lol and offer unlimited data at reasonable pricing. The whole 10 GB limit for 50 € BS needs to end.

The amount of time I see the edge sign in Germany is just redic.
I mean, I had full LTE in the middle of nowhere in the mountain region of Mexico

Edit: ironically it just took me 3 minutes to send this message because this was shown in the middle of Berlin:

You do realize a 5G upgrade near where you live would solve your problems, right (assuming you get a 5G phone)? You don't have to progress from 2G -> 3G -> 4G -> 5G. You can skip from 2G to 5G or from 3G to 5G.

But if an area doesn't have decent 4G by now... what makes you think they'll be in a hurry to upgrade to 5G anytime soon?

Sure... if a carrier has done NOTHING for the last decade... keeping their 3G towers all this time... they yeah they should skip 4G and go straight to 5G

But is that scenario typical?

Well, first off I don't want a 5G phone.

5G phones spread bats. Bats spread COVID via 5G. It's documented. I saw it on Facebook.

So, since Bats spread the 5G virus (this is why Pontiac discontinued the G6), that means.

Yes. You guessed it. The New iPhone is actually the BAT PHONE.

Why would I want a Bat Phone? I'm not a bat. I don't call bats. I don't want to call bats. Who cares if they have a phone?

Of course, none of this changes the fact that I don't have a Mac Pro with the wheelie kit on it.

No. You can keep your batty iPhone to yourself. Besides it's busy battling it's new nemesis.

The Pangolin!!!

Yes, this is satire. I don't beleive any of this conspiracy stuff. It's just for a laugh........

So is this report suggesting we're like to get a 5G enabled iPhone during the regular September release month in 2020, but then in January 2020 there'll be another sub-set model of the same iPhone with mmWave capabilities?

As someone with an (older) iPhone SE, I'm thinking of waiting till September for the rumoured 5.4" iPhone 12, however, if there's a newer model a few months later, I don't mind holding out, but I'm slightly confused.

"The speed doesn't change with the frequency, it's the amount of information that can be carried at the higher frequency that makes the difference.
So ... the speed is slower. In this context, 'speed' is amount of information per time unit, not speed of propogation.

I live in L.A. and LTE(5Ge on ATT, lol) is blazing fast as is. The last several months I have been getting 100/20+ speeds on average everywhere in this city. With few exceptions. I have had speeds as high as 225 and as low as 45(as if that is slow). So I am very happy with my current Cell service.

5G isn't something I want right now, yeah it's cool , but definitely not a sole reason to upgrade. I'm good with my XS Max for the next year. I can wait for 5G.

Damn Quick Question. Am I understanding this right?

There are gonna be 2 versions of 5G phones, and you buy the one that is compatible with your Cell provider?

Wish 5G was delayed another year. The iphone 12 looks like a great upgrade but the first gen 5G chips are going to be pretty lackluster compared to the ones a year later.

The current 5G chip that Apple will most likely use is the Snapdragon X55 5G Modem which is a second generation 5G modem. Ofcourse subsequent generations will still see improvements. Just pointing out that first gen is over and done with and the technology is more mature now.

If they don’t add full 5g then I doubt they will until fall 2021. They are already releasing so many different models I don’t see them having multiple versions of the iPhone 12 pro 3 months later

Depends how delayed is delayed really, my X isn’t 3 till november. If it is early 2021 then I will probably just get whatever device is available though.

So the plan is upgrade to iphone 12 pro max in 2020 and then in 2022 the iphone 14(or 15) pro max.
As a medical student, I’ll probably be waiting until iPhone 15 Pro to upgrade which is partly why I splurged on the 11 Pro this year. I honestly love everything about the 11 Pro. Hard to imagine a major tangible upgrade other than 5G speeds.

Thanks for the link. I'm glad carriers are still rolling it out.

However... it's a shame Verizon is sticking to mmWave 5G... you know... the 5G that only works outdoors on streets and sidewalks and in clear view of a node.

Seriously... look at that map. Notice how their 5G coverage lines up EXACTLY with the streets. What a coincidence! :p

Basically you'll get Verizon 5G if you're standing on the street in front of City Hall. But the moment you step inside City Hall... you're back on 4G/LTE

I wish I was a fly on the wall when Verizon executives decided this...

I'll wait until the notch goes away and the front camera becomes an add-on accessory via Lightning port for those who can't stop looking at themselves.

So what is 5G? they still didn't define it? they have mmWave 5G and sub-6Ghz also called 5G? this is idiotic. They should have name mmWave 5G and sub-6Ghz as 4G+ (or Turbo, Max). You can't have the same branding for 2 different things it confuses the consumer.

That being said, I will happily browse the internet on 200Mbps sub-6Ghz than 1.8Gbps mmWave signal that does not exist. So far from reviewers, 5G mmWave seems like it can be blocked by a tree.

I didn't know this, I figured Europe was on 6G already 🤣

In other words, it's probably best to wait for the 2021 phone, when the pandemic is hopefully resolved, when 5G is way more popular due to increased demand, and when Apple will release the improved versions all at once.

Wow, Germany is the last country I'd expect that sort of technological incompetence! What's happening over there? Has Germany changed?

Here in Australia, our mobile coverage and pricing seems half reasonable, and is reliable; but our landline broadband has become a horrible useless mess after our big, hugely expensive, nationwide upgrade became a political football. It's pretty fast when it works, but it drops out constantly, and there is no other option, once the NBN rolls out to your area, the old ADSL gets disconnected, and there's no other choice. I'm wondering if we will see people switching to mobile based home internet as the prices for data come down enough.

I am glad, after 24 months of constantly bashing mmWave people ( at least on macrumours ) finally learned what mmWave is really about.

I do not quite understand how Apple will play its mmWave card, personally I thought the logical solution would be to leave mmWave this year and only do Sub 6. Otherwise you end up with same iPhone models that has mmWave Antenna and some dont. And mmWave Antenna is quite expensive.

Out of all the carrier around the world. ( AFAIK ) , only Verizon relies solely on mmWave as 5G ( For now ).

Couldn’t care less, kind of glad I got my 11 Pro so we can see how the first iPhones with 5G turn out.
Carriers are likely to face longer delays rolling it out anyway because of everything going on this year

If there is an option to turn 5G off within iOS14 that would be great for users where the technology is not available. Best of both world. ;)

There is a frequency bidding war between the different providers before a new technology comes along which costs them a lot of money and they obviously want to make that money back somehow.

then there are those small towns and neighbors that think they will get cancer so they sign any petition they can find to stop new towers from being build. I mean even in the UK people are destroying 5G towers, thinking they cause corona virus.

It might not seem so bad if you live in the City and don’t Travel a lot or if you avoid the provider o2 like a plague but yes it’s not as it should be.

At my parents small town I turn my phone into flight mode and only use WiFi cuz there is no phone service unless you stand by the window in a specific corner. Recently I asked my sister if it doesn’t bother her and she’s like „no we have a home line and WiFi at home“ and I am like ???? But you r not home 24/7
