They won't. Not when you can get a PC that has better specs, more ports, more featurs, etc than the Macs at 1/3rd the price. Apple is going to lose it's audio/video/photo crowd also. This update does nothing for anybody except people that just want to look cool and spend a couple extra $1000 for no reason. Apple should just stick to working on new pink toy ipods and stay out of the computer thing. Their only decent laptop is the current macbook pro, which has a faulty gpu that could blow up and kill you instantly. That's the best mac has to offer though. The fact that they lied about the problem and just kept selling these is amazing too. What a classy company. A hobo off the street could have pulled off a better notebook update than this. Steve Jobs = Genius
I'm sure you could have done a better job right, why aren't you running Apple then, smart one.

So why then have Apple grown to the size they are now under Steve Jobs, he must know something that your surely don't. :D
Huh? I said "ever since SJ took over, it's been all about form over function". I didn't say form over function doesn't sell -- it does, as anyone who has ever seen women's shoes would know. The fact that 12" heels sell, doesn't make them practical.

I still don't understand the animosity towards glossy screens. For the 99.99% of us that don't do graphic design (the userbase has shifted, folks), the glossy screens provide great contrast on video, look great with games, etc. A choice would be nice, but for most people glossy is the way to go anyway.

The reflection pissed me off. I prefer not to see myself or be distracted by lights and things.

I think i'll have a happier time getting to know my macbook (mac girl) through the glass trackpad with no buttons.
Wonder where the buttons gone. I'll have to search for it harder. I hope it feels smoother than before. I really like it when its soft and smooth. ;)

Oh God, I can feel the disappointment already. I hope he's wrong on some of this stuff.

Apple, you HAVE to get your prices down. An old MacBook is NOT WORTH $999!

Man, this better not suck.

Apple would be the first company in the world that downgrades a laptop from 2.4 to 2.0GHz and calls it an upgrade! Than the keynote will be presented in this manner:

STEVE
Our macbooks came with a processor
giving us 2.4GHz. That was great,
but we made it even better.
The new Macbooks will deliver,...
BOOM!
2.0GHz!

In the background we can here crickets, while Steve was hoping for an ecstatic audience.

lol, love it.

Same amount for less?

I sure hope the rumors are wrong. If $1299 is going to get me the same amount of RAM and hard disk space, but 400Mhz less processor speed - I'm going to be extremely disappointed.:(

Being that we're in a recession, I would hope for a slight price drop, and not Steve Jobs treating consumers like idiots, by putting a laptop in a shiny new casing and hoping people don't notice that they're getting less than what they would have yesterday.

Is there somehwhere to get live info once the conference starts? I am getting ready to purchase my first MacBook and I really want to see the real info, not all the rumors and speculation I've been reading over the past few days. While it's fun to speculate, why cry in your beer before you know the complete truth?

I always belive people who think I'm bitching...

Huh? You mean you complain about a single button on the track? I can see where you're coming from, but one thing the guy failed to mention (at least, that I see) is that these new trackpads will be similiar to Apple's Mighty Mouse, most likely. Which means it will have a right-click feature. ;)

Okay...something is fishy here. Macrumors *usually* never posts every single little tidbit rumor....especially on the front page. The sheer fact that there is so many inconsistencies makes me think everything is wrong and that I should just give up trying to figure Apple out.

Oh, and I find it EXTREMELY hard to believe that Apple would hold onto a macbook with a completely different design at the entry level....it doesn't make business sense nor does it really fit into the "Apple" corporate mentality...IMO.

Eek about the glossy screens. I'm into everything but the gloss and the bezel. I'm gonna end up buying it anyways though, I need the power!

Eck also! i can't stand glossy screens, make it hard to read in many environments, i cant stand the reflective glare.

Give me matte, give me Blu-Ray reading, or nothing, i won't upgrade from my current MBP.

Happened before. Apple released the 12" Powerbook and 17" powerbook and kept the 15" Titanium book.

I agree, this means that surely SOME of the information is false. Like new 2.0 GHz MBs, but 2.1 GHz OLD MBs for less? Oh please... Someone failed at trying to think up a rumor. ;) Either that or never corrected their typo.
