In my opinion, the new product is an Apple E-book reader:

1) Look at the left-hand side of the image. The words "Bestseller" can easily be seen.

2) The green laser, which could indicate nVidia involvement, seems to be balancing on what appears to be a book. Look at the furled page edges to the left and right of the laser.

3) "Brick" could simply be a visual reference for the shape of what a typical paperback looks like.

Commentary: While I would love to see a MacTablet, Mac Mini Pro, or a "Windows smashing" device, based on the evidence within the image, unfortunately, I just don't think it's in the cards this time around :apple:

Sigh! Once again, we've been told that the book has NOTHING to do with it. That image came from a news story about people pointing lasers at airplanes. The book has nothing to do with it.

Seriously, people need to stop reading into this so much. Read the 9to5 page. It specifically states the book has nothing to do with it. People have also posted the image from last year sometime, so people need to stop getting carried away with all their crazy laser keyboards, etc.

To those hypothesizing about nVidia and an external GPU, nVidia does have their Quadro Plex series of external video rendering systems. While designed for workstations, nVidia might have figured out how to scale it down in size, complexity and price to make it viable for Apple desktop and notebook computers.

Then it's a fake.
Nothing goes into a real marketing image that isn't relevant that's the point.

cuz a whole lot of research went into finding a good aluminum block picture right?

IF these are from apple they are simply a mini campaign online taking images from google as "hints", more likely they are loosely related or simply red herrings

It's not a marketing image. Do you actually think apple is releasing marketing images for something they haven't announced? This is all second hand info. Supposedly, 9to5 has a good track record with these things, so people tend to believe them. The picture, which was used differently before, is just being used as a hint at what the leaked info is going to be. For some reason, 9to5 is holding out on us until sometime this weekend.

The book is Cryptonomicon.

The following is from jozero at http://9to5mac.com/brick-clue-number-two. I think he has it.

"Cryptonomicon talked of a secure data storage facility. Imagine a localized .Mac, with a media server as the brick. Smaller devices come out at a cheaper price, but along with them everyone buys the 'brick' as well to store and sync their data and media. Or combine the mac mini with the AppleTV , with some smart syncing (hopefully over wifi or 3G), and you get the brick."

Or maybe it's an external drive, Blueray (laser) maybe?

The book starts with a gay love scene of sorts = Apple returning rainbow logo
the contains a search for missing gold = Apple has a massive pot of cash.

the book has a working enigma machine = ......

going to stop now it really just gets silly from there.

Snow Crash would have been a better pick for cloud related announcement.

can someone go to 9to5 for me and tell me if its freaking GIGANTIC for them too?

its the only site thats doing that for me.

Some reason being, cashing in on traffic.

There's more...

Clue #3 is released.

I have a few questions:

1. Does it work like lasing a stick of dynamite?
2. Can it make house sized popcorn?
3. Did the Apple Engineers working on it have a friend living in their wardrobe?

Yes. Yes. And Yes. It serves as a portable cocktail bar as well.

OMG apple is coming out with an affordable green laser pointer!!!! OMG OMG OMG

Not any ordinary green laser pointer but one that shows the Apple sign so SJ can magically appear.

It's better then Apple Care! Your mb is broken just shoot the laser beam and he will come and fix it

Someone may have said this

I wish I could remember where I heard about another "brick" idea, but someone has suggested the mysterious brick is a device, which will charge the macbook/macbook pro without connecting a power cord. There was a conference with this idea but I can not seem to find it. I want to say I saw it on appleinsider or tuaw.

wireless energy transmission is nowhere near where it would need to be for it to be commercially viable. At a distance of like a foot only 60ish% of the energy is actually recovered.

Ok, the last "clue" makes it obvious.

You guys are thinking way too big. Seeing as this relates directly to Macbooks, it's clearly just the fact that the new Macbooks will be made of aluminium, rather than plastic, thus making the whole Mac computer line-up aluminium.

The images are are just alluding to a laser machining the Macbook shells out of Aluminium blocks. Like they did with bits of the iPod Mini or whatever. Perhaps the green hue of the laser is meant to highlight the environmental aspects of moving away from plastics.

Thats what ive been thinking since someone here said the block of aluminum looked like stock aluminum that is used in manufacturing

They said it was going to be "huge" switching to aluminum is not huge we already know they are going to do that. We've know that for the longest. I say they are bsing and on sat or sun you will see a post that says "Just Kidding we know nothing"

keyword being WE already know that. Id bet that the majority of normies (non tech geeky people like me) dont know and probably dont even know that the macbook is up for an update.

hopefully theres more to it than just that, but id be very satisfied with aluminum and a spec bump:D

even if that is so how would going green be seen as HUGE?
