this seems to the most credible rumour up till now- nice package!

does anyone know what's happening with apple/intel LIGHT PEAK? when will this be implemented?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; da-dk) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

I'm guessing $999 for the 11"/2gb/64gb, and $1299 for a 11"/4gb/128gb. I'd buy that.

With an SSD and other bells and whistles to make the device comparable to a low end MacBook Pro will put this device in the $1300 - $2000 range.

That just boggles my mind. Why would someone pay that for an Air, when a MacBook Pro is about the same size and price but gives you a lot more for your money? If people can live with the slightly reduced functionality of the Air to go with its reduced size, why not just get an iPad (which, by the next revision, I'll bet will do almost as much as an Air)?

I think that the MacBook will either get some serious hardware refreshing or will be dropped from the lineup, if not at this keynote, in one of the next 2 or 3 ones. Look at it! It looks very old and unapplelike.

I think that they will price the air in a similar structure as the MacBook Pro so people with a little extra money can either choose the typical consumer computer (the air because it can handle most daily tasks) or the more business oriented computer (the macbook pro which will probably be updated with some more impressive specs aimed at business customers).

Just my opinion.

However I want my next laptop to have the 460m GPU in it.

When I read this I had images of your laptop bursting into flames, with a nondescript you running around the room with your hair on fire. Just saying.

I haven't looked at any of the TDP's on the mobile 400 series, but if they're anything like the rest of Fermi's... dear lord.

1. The MBA is nowhere near the weight of the MPB
2. The iPad will never be a computer- i.e. cannibalize the mac market. The iPad is nowhere near a business production device-.

The iPad cannot be compared to any Mac, period.

13.3" 1440x900, 4GB, 128GB SSD, 2.4GHz, 320M, <$1300 ... tempting.

Unless the 13.3" MacBook Pro gains a 1440x900 display too.

I have a gaming PC and MacBook in my house. 99% of what I use my MB for is web browsing. I would love to have the lightest MB possible. So, I will be picking the 11" MBA. If there are upgrade options like RAM, I'll max it out as long as it doesn't cost more than $100-150. I don't even use 30 GB of hard drive space on my current MB. So, I'd be fine if all it comes with is 64 GB.

One thing I really hope is it will come with the backlit keyboard. I've really come to love that feature on my MB and if I get a MBA, it must have this.

Wouldn't it be cool if as part of the "Air" line, they released an iPad form factor AIR processor device with included dock for desktop mode, then portably you have full OSX or iOS depending on your requirement of the moment . . .

Rocketman

Shades of the Duo! I wouldn't mind this in a normal MBA form factor, with a small dock "bar" with the ports needed (USB, Firewire, SD card reader, etc), connected to an external display. It's not likely to happen, but it'd be cool anyway. Maybe another mfg will come up with something like this (or does it already exist for the current model(s)?)...

Ive had thoughts that the entire apple line up of mobile products will end up with some form of the iOS system on it. all app store orientated. and unfortunately, this could happen.

Hopefully this new OS Lion or whatever, will still be as good as, if not better than snow leopard.

They can include some form of iOS if they like, maybe in dashboard as long as it's an aside to the real OS X.

I'm all for it personally, if is was there as an aide to the standard OS.

Just think of the battery life you could get using iOS on it rather than Lion. It would be good for on the go. probably just be used for accessing documents and web browsing. but it would be quick, instant wake up and use no power what so ever.

I wonder how many of you who are willing to buy this have iPads as well?

I’m curious if you guys will carry both devices or just MBA?

I'd be going in the opposite direction than you indicate: I've been coveting the iPad for the ultra-portable factor, but the absence of a physical keyboard and the fact that it runs iOS are real drawbacks to me. But, since the MBA has so-far been very high-priced for me to consider investing in one (especially since I've got a killer 17" laptop right now), the iPad seemed the best alternative over buying another real laptop like an entry-level Macbook (which weighs much more than an iPad).

However, the entry-level MBA with the specs indicated (and maybe a RAM upgrade to 4GB), would be more than sufficient for the simple writing, Web-surfing, music playing with the occasional video tasks I was considering an iPad for. With the bonus that I'm not locked in to iOS.

It may be blasphemy to say it, but this looks like it could finally be Apple's "netbook" in many ways but the name.

It's a sorta "meh" laptop. They are fantastically light and thin, but they are so light-weight in the computing department and storage. It wouldn't be bad if they were $799. but they won't be. The air is a great device for people with the money and need, but that's a very slim part of the market.

Hope to see Apple unveiling something more in the hardware department on Wednesday.

What are you doing on an 11 inch screen that requires 8GB of RAM?

I run a VM with Linux, one Android emulator and Eclipse.

I always use a real external (matte, non-apple) screen while at a desk.

I only use the laptop internal screen while on the move. Thats why it has to be matte.

We are in the end of 2010... if Apple come out with a outdated C2D with 2gb I will simply laugh of it. O hope it comes with an i3 at least and 4gb for the base model. RAM memory is SOOO cheap nowadays. You can find 8GB for less than $200.

it is a good one to complement with my macbook pro 13" with the 11"?

I don't think there's much point in that, since the 13 inch is plenty portable as it is. The difference between 2.7 and 4.5 pounds won't make a big difference, unless you have some type of arm problem? Plus, it's nice to have all your stuff in one place. I definitely wouldn't spend $1000+ on an 11 inch if I already have a more powerful, portable 13 incher.

If you're planning to complement a 15" laptop, then that makes more sense.
