$30/month for unlimited data on an iPod touch is pure fantasy.

Let me correct my statement. I would gladly pay $15/month for 200 MB or $25/month for 2 GB. These are the current iPad plans, and would likely be extended for other 3G devices as well.

I'd like to see iTunes slim down and become 64-bit. Build a lot of the device synchronization into Mac OS X. Leave iTunes for music.

I feel the same way, and something tells me that neither of us is the target demographic for the iPhone.

I currently have a pay as you go plan ($10/month) and would never consider buying an iPhone. But I would gladly pay $30/month for a Touch with unlimited 3G.

$35/month total is starting to venture down towards reality for many people for whom an iPhone is just an expensive dream.

...and with the 200 MB plan, $25/month for voice and data is getting downright affordable for those with a tight budget.

This.

Huge watches are all the rage these days - - I for one am not going to be surprised to see Apple take the bull by the horns (as they always do) and jump into the wrist-top computer market as yet another cornerstone of their media technology empire.

Watch for it Wednesday.

Yep. Nothing says "watch" like a big picture of a guitar...

Better roll your eyes someplace else

and if you think Apple will come out with a branded Guitar then you must be smoking something

My question is if its going to be able to be mounted like a watch, what about head phone cords? There aren't any good wireless headsets out there in comparison to wired.

Really really not looking forward to this event if thats what they are going to do with the iPod Nano, probably no capacity upgrades this year too if it is going to be that small.

Just because Seth Weintraub says it is going to happen, doesn't mean it will. He has been far off the mark on numerous occasions.

There will not be an iPod watch for the simple reason that the cord connecting the watch to the earbuds will be in the way all the time. And that's just one of the reasons.

edit.. I see I'm not the only one ^

Just thought of something.

What if the screen could be on the other side of a device? Like if there is only going to be a rear camera on an iDevice , surly you want a screen to see your contact (assuming it has facetime). Perhaps even an apple branded digital camera/camcorder running a strip down iOS with options to upload your pics to facebook or Flickr and your videos to Youtube.

I know Apple has tried that in the past but think about it. An apple branded camera/camcorder that has wifi so you can upload your content to your sites. Plus if Apple ever gets wireless syncing they could ditch the cords and even memory cards (and possisblity the 30 pin connecter, but I sww it staying for charging) and you just wirelessy transfer your pictures and videos over to your computer. You could even wirelessly share your pictures with any iOS device over wifi.

The 3G touch sounds amazing to me. I'm definitely not in the market for an iPhone, and I doubt I ever will be. A phone just isn't important enough to me to spend any significant amount of money (last month I used a massive 17 minutes). I love using tons of data, though, but always find myself locked out by a lack of public wifi (I live in KY. We don't know about them there internets yet.). I'd pay the iPad's data rates on a touch in a heartbeat.

If the iPod touch is 100$, you can forget about 3g. HOORAY!

Oh and the iPod watch? FORGET ABOUT IT. It would cost a lot. Looks ugly. Unless they can have very good quality, noise canceling, wireless headphones, it's not worth because walking with headphones lines to your watch will make you look like your hooked on drugs at a hospital and possibility of ripping your earplug out of your ears or breaking the headphone jack. GG

Perhaps apple should retool the isync application for pairing iOS devices. Make itunes be more about the music and movie management. Maybe allow itunes store access from itunes, isync and front row. That would slim down the itunes. I guess front row could become the larger app with itunes solely for music, imovie handling purchased movies in addition to home movies. Front row would access all of them: itunes, imovie, iphoto and isync.

There is something to be said about having it all in itunes. But at some point the software might become too overburdened as more and more features are added.

I could see an ipod fob/pocket watch before a wrist watch. Apple could advertise that there is now something to put in that little pocket in your jeans (I already carry an older wind up watch there myself). Of course for video that would be small. Perhaps just a music player with a clock face when not using other features. Perhaps they could even incorporate an old fashioned winder that can charge the battery?

Big ugly watches are hot these days!

Even Casio had to up-size their G-Shock line because the former king of big ugly watch lines was falling behind in the arm race.

The new Casio G-Shock GXW-56 — and its American counterpart, the GX-56 — are proof that huge is the new big. With a case 55.5mm wide at its widest point, and 17.5mm high, the GXW-56 is the biggest G-Shock ever made. (Yes, they are even larger than the venerable Frogman.)

The thinking behind the GXW-56 (and the GX-56) is that, in the overall scheme of things, typical G-Shocks simply aren't all that big anymore. Yes, they are certainly bigger than your average timepiece, but if you look at the watches that are really driving the trends right now, G-Shocks don't completely dominate in terms of size. So in order to maintain their status as trend-setters (and make no mistake — G-Shocks are as much about fashion as they are toughness; if you don't believe me, read my coverage of Shock the World), it was time for G-Shocks to take the next step.

If Apple releases a 3G-enabled iPod Touch, what reason would anyone have going forward to buy an iPhone, especially if the Touch also gets front and rear cameras? You could simply use WiFi or 3G to make phone calls via Skype or Vonage, and only pay about $30 a month for the privilege of doing so.

big reasons:
- VOIP services like you mentioned don't have 911 service (and you can't use vonage on a portable device if i'm correct)
- if they do, they cost extra
- VOIP services can't always be depended on if you don't have data connection
- the iPod touch doesn't have a speaker and microphone on the unit, so you'd have to use it with the attached headphones all the time. i guess you could buy a bluetooth headset but probably apple will block the connection.
- average joe user doesn't really know about skype in or out to regular numbers, and isn't willing to have to use that specific app every time he makes a call.

if there is a 3G ipod touch, i'm buying it on day 1, and i will use it to talk. i couldn't replace my phone, though, unless i can get some really reliable voip 911 service. maybe i will get a 3G touch + prepaid tracfone.

Expect this would most likely be a base model, and the 2009 model.

I wonder if you even paid attention in school, as many have said there will be two separate models just like the iPad.

Just remember something. Apple does not make products for you, but rather for everyone. If Apple does comeout with this you don't have to buy it. no one will foce you to eirther.

911 - I have a land line for that.
Speaker and mic - the new one should have that.
Skype for average user - true. Could change eventually, though.

Everyone has their own perfect set of features. We'll see what happens.

I don't know why anyone wears a watch these days....

I think an iPod watch would be interesting but weird.

Of course Apple doesn't make products just for me. But I do speak for millions. As well as others who have similar thoughts like me as you do too.

Its understandable that many do not need watches. But to say no one should need one is a stretch.

I wear either a pocket watch when in jeans (or suit) or a wrist watch when in shorts or sometimes jeans. I find it easier to glance at the watch than to haul out some digital device just for the time. The cell phone would probably be the easiest to look at but I conveniently leave mine at home a lot. I could check the classic ipod but it would be in my computer bag or in a case in my pocket. By the time I fish that out I can look at the watch.

The watch is also a piece of jewelry. You select one that fits your style.

If the touch + 3G was the same price as an unsubsidized iPhone (599, 699), would you buy it? If the touch had 3G, the hardware would be almost the same as the iPhone (minus the speaker and mic). I don't think it would be that big of a sell if it was at that price.

As for the watch, I think the watch band would be an accessory for those that would wear it on their wrist.
