good. this should stop all those Waiting For C2D MB threads...

HA!

You know, these statements are becoming the new "Powerbook G5 Next Tuesday". That means really annoying, almost as bad as the "Waiting for Merom Macbook" threads themselves! And it's HILARIOUS! :D

I don't care about a new graphics card, but I do want my Macbook to have as good a battery life as possible. I also want it to be quiet, and cool.

Here's to neat Merom Macbooks Tomorrow!

My 2 cents: The MacBook are definitely going to be updated this month. Most likely tomorrow. Why do I think this? AppleInsider has reliable sources, they have never completely been wrong. The MacBooks will get Core 2 Duos (1.83, 2.0, 2.16), 802.11n cards, and possibly hard drive & RAM increase. Realistically we won't be getting a dedicated graphics card, bigger screens, or firewire 800.

Enjoying my Core 2 Duo MBP.

Anyone watching Studio 60 on NBC tonight, Matthew Perry was using an aluminum 12" or 13" MacBook Pro. You could tell that it was a MacBook Pro and not a G4 because there was an iSight built in to the lid right above the screen. If you Tivo'd it, check it out! it was approximately 20 minutes in to the show.

He usually uses a black Macbook. I'm sure it was just shot at a strange angle to make it appear aluminum.

I mainly hope that they go up to 1GB of RAM with this. Maybe a minor hard-drive upgrade too. Either way, I'm buying.

I hope for this as well. If not, I'll probably still go for it. It's not that much for a harddrive upgrade. As far as gig ram goes, why not? :D

Can anyone think of a reason not to order a C2D the day they come out? Wait to see if there's bugs or something?

Personally, I would find it kind of hard to wait!

When touting the benefits of widescreen display, viewing websites shouldn't be one of the selling points. Non-widescreen displays are far superior than widescreen displays. Why? Simple. Websites scroll vertically. The longer the screen, the more you can display at once. Widescreen displays result in much more scrolling since any decent website doesn't require horizontal scrolling at ANY resolution. Having a wide but short window in a browser gives you nothing and takes away a lot.

You might say that you can get more text on one line with a widescreen display. Well, you don't really want this. There's a reason the 80-character standard exists. 80 might not always be appropriate, but the premise holds true that it's easier to read text in narrower columns over multiple lines than on fewer, longer lines.

Not to mention Apple puts the dock at the bottom of the screen by default, further reducing visible content on a website. I always move mine to the right.

The only reason I can see a widescreen display being beneficial is for watching movies, but I think everyone looks at websites more often than they watch movies on their laptops.

Precisely, except maybe not 2.16 GHz

I Think C2D MacBook Tomorrow But Election May Delay A Day

I Think C2D MacBook Tomorrow But Election May Delay A Day.

Nothing different except C2D at same speeds, 3GB option, 160GB and 200GB HD Offerings.

I predict Macbooks will, after tomorrow, be known as Macbook Nanos, because they will be 0.5" thin and have the whole shebang. In fact the monitor will be upgraded to 13.5" too

Very Soon

Its gonna happen soon.. iMacs already have intel core 2 duo inside....what is next??? macbook or macmini?

Fair thought - but aren't Apple a Global company with a global product? I would have thought anything local wouldn't impact on a worldwide strategy...but then again...

Apple is primarily an American company and they know that the news cycle will be heavy with Election Results. They can wait until next week and get more bang for the same buck. Europe (Australia, Asia, etc. ) will be just as happy with a Nov. 14 release as Nov. 7.

Im in Australia, and a Nov 14 release would **** me right off...I may need to try and get one delivered by Nov 18...lol.

My response was more tongue in cheek - knowing full well the US-Centricity of Apple.

Actually a super light notebook without an optical drive is exactly what I'm looking for! Remove that device and Apple should be able to provide a super thin machine with a relatively large & wide screen. Going a bit further they could put most of OS/X on Flash or EPROM of some sort with a small 1.8 inch drive for user data. It should be fairly easy to accomplish this under two pounds, though I would go heavier if the screen could be made 15" wide.

I'm motivated by the One Laptop per Child program. Not that I like the program but some of the concepts embodied in the laptop are very compelling. First; the laptops are solid state so no heavy fragile optical drive t worry about. Second; the idea of pervasive use of networking and the related concepts really need to be explored in a main stream OS. MacOS/X is a good platform for systems reliant upon networking. Third; a rugged machine, something the MacBooks use to accel at.

The reality is if you really need a Optical drive, that need can be easily taken care of with a USB device. When needed, it isn't something to carry around with your self constantly.

It should be reasonable to get the thickness of the machine down to about 3/4". This without an optical drive and at least part of the OS stored to Flash. The biggest items you will end up with are the processor cooling hardware and a magnetic drive for frequently accessed or user data.

Now I don't see Apple delivering this at this moment in time. It is pretty obvious that the current stock of MacBooks need a refresh. When they come though what will they be called, if they are significantly thinner they are no longer Books. Maybe the arrangement will be a folding tablet.

Apple will never make a laptop that is that size because it would mean that they would have to take out the optical drive and make the computer ultimately worthless without a docking station. Apple will never make a computer that isn't fully capable from the start.

And don't have a single 12/13in model in existence? I don't think so.

Some people want small form factors. It's a shame Apple thinks form factors and power are in a 1-to-1 relationship. Some people want powerful laptops with smaller displays (12in PB is no more) or less powerful laptops with larger displays (15in iBook is no more). Hopefully Apple learns to stop limiting themselves in this way. Think differently differently.

Exactly what I have been demanding, too...not tiny crap with 9" or 10" displays like those from Sony or others...I just want a new 12" MB or MBP...15" or 17" are too much to carry around for those that don't need all the bells and whistles...my wish:

MB or MBP Core 2 Duo 12"
1Gb RAM
120Gb HD
Backlit Keyboard (if technology allows)
128Mb discreet GPU
Optical drive (no need for DL)
iSight

Is that really so hard?

There are many possibilities for the graphics of the Macbook. The GMA950 is at about the end of the road. Maybe we'll see Intel's X3000. If not, one of Nvidia's or ATi's integrated solutions would be nice.

I hope we see the Intel X3000 in the next MacBook. The GMA950 is crippling the MacBook and Mac Mini; it offers mediocre 3D performance, requires a portion of system memory and does not support widescreen resolutions for composite output. The X3000 would not solve the memory issue but it will improve 3D and maybe support widescreen analogue output.

Oh come on. How often do we actually have to access our optical drives? While you may do so often, many of us almost never do and would be happy to attach an external drive every now and then or even access the disc we need over the network.

The 2 lb Sonys and Panasonics are fully capable. For many of us, that is exactly what we want, and your assertion that such a machine is not 'fully capable' may be true for you and others, but for many of us, your assertion that this is 'true' is rubbish.

my 25cents~

MB w/ C2D
atleast 1gb ram
alteast 80gig hd
4x superdrive
gma 950 with max memory support (224mb)
OR
GMA x3000
iSight
and the other stuff they have now..

.....face it...we're not gonna gonna get a dedicated video card for this baby..atleast not for this price...cause if MB had a good video card...it would render the MBP not so pro...since every other spec is similar...
eg. would you pay another $500-800 for fw800/ 4x faster super/bigger screen? if MB had a dedicated vid carD? personally i wouldnt...yeah blah blah blah smaller laptops are good and what not.....but 13.3 inches is pretty dam small already....i had a 14 inch before...and i found that laptop to be quite COMPAQ already...10.6-12...is just a little too small...
if u want a small laptop like that....you would definately not enjoy gaming on it...dvds....fine....websurfing...fine...but what else would it be good for having it that small!? no full size keys....yeah fine its lighter...but iono...i like mb size now! its definately the smallest i'll go for!

The optical drive in my laptop broke a few months ago. I haven't missed it much. The one time I did need it, I hooked up my external drive, so it is necessary to have one.

Yeah i agree, no dedicated videocard. Its just not fesiable for the size/ price etc.

Anyhoo, I can see this update being VERY similar to the macbook pro one. Everyone was shocked with the iBook to Macbook transition, i dont think they will shock us again by suddenly adding a dedicated videocard to this lineup, or new form factor... or anything else you guys are 'hoping' for haha.

I can see a bigger HD wireless n and new processor. thats about it.

more RAM and standard DVD burner are mabyes...

haha and oh yeah, mabye a matte screen option.

As well, i agree w. some of the previous posts, no release tomorrow. Too much going on in the world haha. + i still think macbook pro's deserve some spotlight.

14th is the day.................... bets?

haha

the 12" PB had a full sized keyboard...and I'm holding on to my 1.33 version till a 12" MBP shows up.

If they increase the amount of RAM to 1GB they could increase the amount the integrated graphics use to around 128mb, the current 64mb is a bit low.
