if u want a small laptop like that....you would definately not enjoy gaming on it...

I don't know, I really enjoyed gaming on my Sony Vaio S1 (13" screen) back when I used to take it to lan parties.

I feel it is highly likely we will see a new tiny laptop from Apple at some point in 2007.

Intel will be releasing Merom next spring, AND an ultra-low voltage version for tiny laptops.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core_2#Merom_2

There used to be more detail there but it seems to have gone.

Still baffled as to why Apple stopped the 12'' PB, but maybe they felt they wouldn't sell enough in 9 months to recover the costs of designing an intel core version, before needing a major redesign for the 2007 tiny laptop.

hopefully

let's hope they release it soon, although it's a bit frustrating for those who bought core duo models recently for the same price. kind of drawback on apple

the 12" PB had a full sized keyboard...and I'm holding on to my 1.33 version till a 12" MBP shows up.

me too. I got a 19" external screen and the BT Apple Keyboard and Mouse. When I'm @ Home I'm full featured, if I'm on the road my PB is small and light.

12" PB 1GHz
1,256 GB Ram
100gig HD

I just love my little fella :D

Wait wait.... we're getting all hot and bothered about Core 2 Duo... and you're telling me a new chip will be out in a few months...
I can't keep up!

I read this as "fix coming soon for rumored MacBook Pro humming issues".

So I thought, "Great, still couldn't buy MacBook Pro if I wanted to".

Huh? Why do people keep saying things like this?
When buying a new computer you should aways take in consideration how dated the hardware is and how far ahead a new product release might be.

You have to consider the problems that Apple has had with heat and portables of late. There would likely be heat issues with such a portable, which makes it even more plausible that Apple won't make such a portable.
I think this 10.5" 3lbs sounds possible. I don't think they would ever try to fit it with high-end proc's which would be like begging for heat issues. That Lifebook mentioned earlier is also running with "only" 1.2GHz Pentium M which I'm sure is enough for a machined sized that small. But 2000$ is quite a big price to pay. That's why I think this could be a place for Apple to take control over. But not anytime soon though.

Hopefully it will come out within a fortnight otherwise it will be a long wait to MWSF :( I envisage just increased HD and possibly 1GB ram standard if it comes out within the fortnight. But if the C2D Macbook comes out MWSF there better be some decent upgrades! Maybe dedicated graphics card or at least the X3000.

Intel will be releasing [...] an ultra-low voltage version for tiny laptops.

The ultra low power versions also go ultra slow. If you take a normal Merom or Yonah, and limit its speed to 1 GHz, the voltage can be reduced as well, and it won't be far away from the so-called "ultra low power" chips at all.

That's exactly the same hope I'm living in. I'd guess the update is just around the corner. They're just itching to get their hands on our money before christmas. And also that way we can keep whining about the lack of a GPU. But a tiny bump on RAM and HD wouldn't be bad! :)

Hi...do you think this upgrade will solve the ramdon MB crash problems? Or do you think, as someone told me yesterday, that this problems might be already be solved?

yes, apple will be shooting themselves in the foot if they don't have that issue resolved in the second generation model.

does anyone know how many hrs it is until we should "expect" the announcement assuming it is going to be released within the next day.

Yeah, any kind of idea would be good...

This way apple updates their stuff is bloody annoying! You can't plan any upgrades, and I refuse to buy a macbook knowing full well that there is an update of any kind just around the corner!

As it stands I may actually need to purchase one very soon, but I don't think I could stomach buying into something this late in it's product cycle.

A big F-YOU to apple marketing

Would this be out of the question for the two MBs?

1.83Ghz 2.0Ghz C2D
512Mb 1Gb RAM
60Gb 80Gb HDD
GMA950 X1400

At least the option for a dedicated GPU would be awesome, and since the MBP's would have faster CPUs and significantly faster GPUs I don't see how it would make that much of a difference... Light gaming is NOT "Pro" usage, no matter what Apple would try to tell us.

the x1400 would be great

I think Apple may at least consider putting an ATI x1400 in the top model (blackbook) but I'm afraid the Intel x3000 for Mobile chipset is not coming out until Santa Rosa. The desktop version is now available with the G965 but the mobile version is next year sorry. So its GMA950 till then or ATI x1400 if you are VERY lucky (or is there a Geforce Go 7300GS?, that would still be way better than the GMA950)

Haha! First there would be a mass resigning. They would just all quit Apple and leave an empty building behind. Then they would sadly shoot themselves in the foot at the parking lot. That's how it would happen.

I can't wait! Lösen Die MackBuch bitte!

Thanks for the note. I have been a bit disappointed by this random crash syndrome...Indeed it would be shameful not to solve this issue with this upgrade. I have been waiting to buy a MB since June!
