I bet this upcoming presentation will be the most anticipated event in the history of the iPhone ever rivalled probably only by that one where they unveiled the original iPhone.

Hmm??

Not sure how I feel about this...

I like the gloss and shine and colorful approach of iOS6. I do think some of the skeumorphism (sp?) could stand to go away. But to make it flat just for the sake of making it flat, not a good idea. Maybe have themes. A flat theme and a colorful theme??

I installed Office 2013 and wow, was that flat and ugly. Immediately reverted to Office 2010.

I think they're going to look further back, to the original iPod & devices like the Palm Pilot & Newton for design inspiration. They're really going to push the black & white, as if the display itself was only black & white.

This would also work well with an eInk display should they decide to introduce a product around that.

Don't kid yourself about GM and Ford. Their logos need an overhaul, GM's especially. It has more to do w/ the old fashion mentality at each respective company than good design.

No they don't. Most logos today are horrible and look like some bad design run amok. Trying too hard to be "hip and cool".

Ask quite a few companies why changed it and then changed it back because of consumer complaints. Change for change's sake is stupid, as is change to "keep up".

Classic design needs no change throughout time. It's why wingtips, mens suits, black, white, stainless, etc look good yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Can't wait to the keynote on June 10th. It should be very entertaining to see how Apple will introduce features that were available in Android for years as "revolutionary". I'm sure we will have a chuckle or two.

So when Google devoted their keynote to a Game Centre, Facetime, and iMessages clone you said the same thing, right?

I bet this upcoming presentation will be the most anticipated event in the history of the iPhone ever rivalled probably only by that one where they unveiled the original iPhone.

Which will lead to a backlash of epic proportions (regardless of what is unveiled).

Years ago a university design team was working on a project and I was disappointed in the lack of color in the interface. The response was "color has meaning". Don't color things just to look pretty, it needs to represent meaning.

Yeah, but it doesnt mean you shouldn't use them, unless you are a untalented designer that don't know how to handle them.

Just check Dribbble, colors and kicking ass.

Flat Black & White UI, welcome in 50s TV...

You mean just like Google released Android while iOS was there for years ?

The changes can't be that radical, the icons for apps would all have to be changed for anything major and there's no way all developers would do that in time so we're still gonna have the same sized rounded squares regardless.

UI design and product design are very different skillsets so it'll be interesting to see how this works out...

Why do people think apps are going to be black and white now? I took the black and white comment to mean backgrounds and text not app icons. So lose the faux linen and green felt in place of black/white backgrounds.

Never thought I'd see the day when rabid apple fans go against Ive. We must be in bizarro world.

I'd argue that Ive's designs had almost to do with Apple's success that Jobs did. Funny how people have short term memories.

Sounds very much like windows mobile ... How ironic ... and proof Ive isn't the 'design God' people paint him to be (as it sounds pretty awful .... But let's wait and see!)

----------

You missed what many will consider the most important part of the article - that Apple is testing a quick toggle area for Wifi, bluetooth, etc!

Isn't that something Android has had for many years!!!

----------

Wow, now they're even trying to make the OS look thinner!!!

Let's hope it's the opposite of their hardware; i.e. more function over form!

Don't sweat it. Everything Ive touches has been incredible. Who can forget the flower power iMac, the toilet-seat iBook or the iPod HIFI?

Sounds like Apple and Jony are just copying Google's Holo theme for Android. Let's innovate, not copy.

If it looks anything like the Music app/player, it is going to look terrible.

When I updated my 4S to iOS6 and saw the new look, I asked myself if I was looking at a beta product. It looked completely unfinished and, frankly, terrible. If this is what we have in store for iOS7, I don't think it is a good direction. Honestly, the Galaxy S4 is becoming more and more appealing to me.

After buying every generation of iPhone, I recently moved to the S4. Honestly the BEST move I ever made ... and it sounds like that decision is going to get even better!

----------

sounds terrible, Jony Ive is overrated, but I will be buying a new iPhone either way

Why? Just get the Galaxy S4. After buying every generation of iPhone, I recently switched ... Best move I ever made! Yes Ive is overrated, but why buy a product you don't like!!!

I agree. The most distinguished and sought after designer in the world is overrated.

So overrated in fact, that when Apple releases new products, entire product lines at competitors design factories change overnight to resemble them. ;p

???? Haven't seen a new product from apple for some years; and even then they only make them slimmer ... No real design there! Look at the gorgeous HTC one and the screen on the S4 ... Then look at the iPhone 5 and tell me Ive is doing a good job!!!
