uuuum, no.
I am just glad we are finally done with skeumorphism. (well I hope we are)
If it looks more like MS's online services (i.e. Outlook) this is a good thing. Looks a helluva lot better than iCloud services. This won't go over well.
Sounds like Apple is following in the footsteps of the Microsoft Office 2013 designers.
Panorama swiping home screen wallpapers?! OMG! Why don't we just call this the new MS-Droid phone. If this stuff is true, Apple is going to get soooo ripped to shreds for just copying the competition.
Also, if you look at the new Yahoo Weather app for example, this could be what they are going with as well. Also look at my post above if you haven't yet with the Prada Android OS.
This was posted in the iOS forum. I think this is what's meant by black and white. The question being will will most apps have a white background or will it be a mix of white and black. I'm thinking white. If it looks anything like these concepts below I'll be the first to update.![]()
I'm a big fan of simplistic designs so this is actually a good news for me....Ive has a way of making basic designs look great....I'd defer judgment until I see the actual product...
How about integrating something so simple but so useful like SBSettings? It's just a shame that I need to press 500 buttons to put my iPhone in DND mode or turn on/off Wifi/Bluetooth.
We don't know how much of an existing market there is for the skeuomorphic look. I don't own an iPhone because of skeuomorphism, I own one in spite of it.instead of alienating customers?
SO.....There's large existing market for the current toyish look (ie, every preteen & teen that wants an iDevice)
AND.....There's a large potential market for the newer minimilist look (ie, business market)
So WHY does Apple appear to be dead set on a SINGLE major re-haul that leans towards one market? When it could simply appear as an option in "settings": [appearance 1] [appearance 2].
Skins, Appearance tweak options, etc have been around for decades in Mac OS.... just sayin
One thing to note is we haven't heard any rumors claiming Ive's direction is causing riffs amongst software designers/engineers. All we got was a quote from Rene Ritchie saying the changes were making people really happy. I gotta believe if people that saw them didn't like them somehow it would get leaked.Surprisingly, I find this very appealing.
To those who are worried: "do you who Jony Ive is?"
Personally I have full faith in Ive heading up sw design. I haven't heard more exciting news from apple in a long time. I can't wait to see this redesign. I think it's needed and Ive will make it something special.

There's intense interest blooming around reports that Apple plans to revamp the look of iOS 7 with a flatter appearance. But there's more reason to believe that Apple is - or should be - focusing on features, not a radical new appearance.

Outside of the US, iMessage is just a worse SMS.
The only advantage it would have is for international messaging, since that's the only thing that saves money. Pulling it out of the SMS app allows it to be used for that.

By "black and white," I don't think that Jony Ive means that the interface of iOS 7 (and possibly OS X 10.9) will literally be black on white. I believe that the interface may look like Adobe PhotoShop CS6, with a dark grayscale metallic look, with subtle design gradients. Color will be used sparingly, only to draw attention to important screen and window elements, such as the close, minimize, and maximize buttons in the upper left corner of document windows, and program and dock icons. This is a natural modern look, and I believe that many software and hardware items will take on this appearance. I don't think it is a bad thing at all.
Knowing the clout that Ive has at Apple, do you seriously think that any employee working directly or even indirectly under his charge would make public (internally or externally) his/hers riff with him or his designs? It would be too easy to trace back to source and would be akin to a resignation letter.
I have no problems with a toned down, monochromatic greyscale UI. However, I do not want a monochromatic Windows 8 UI.
