How about integrating something so simple but so useful like SBSettings? It's just a shame that I need to press 500 buttons to put my iPhone in DND mode or turn on/off Wifi/Bluetooth.

The worst part is the separation of FaceTime from the phone app... just another icon to throw into unused preinstalled apps folder, along with Game Center and Stocks.

You mean just like Google released Android while iOS was there for years ?

The first commercial version of Android was released September 2008. First beta was about a year sooner. So, assuming we are talking only of consumer availability, iOS was around for a year and some months longer. No matter how you look at it, iOS was not around "years" before android.

Regardless, I am not sure I understand the reason for this retort. Both operating systems borrow from the other, yet Apple seems dead set on claiming that not to be true (on their end).

I will never understand how people can complain about something that they have never seen or experienced. And about something that is just rumored. And about a designer who has done really great things.

I'm no fanboy, but the the negativity is unbelievable.

These same type of people are the posters on macrumors 12 years ago complaining about the iPod.

I'd bet Jony is taking zero design cues from any of these other layouts. His genius is his OWN mind. And while I like the look, ios 7 is going to have its own unique spin that is nothing like you see herer.

Johnny is giving us a change, not a bold one, but a change none the less. If apple has learned anything it's that change is good, but only to a measurable degree if proven correctly by the numbers. Just looking at past history my friend.

The iphone4 should get the new icons at least. It shouldn't take up any extra system resources, and the best way to make a clean break from the old IOS would be to roll out the new UI to all existing devices.
Yes, it will be supported

Sounds like they're going back to the look of the original Mac OS from 1984. I like the idea, but based on blogs that go for minimal black and white, it can get boring.

U say were getting a change, but not a bold one...if the rumors are true, this will be the boldest change to iOS since iOS was invented.

Then u say apple has learned that change is good. When did they learn that? I'm pretty sure the opposite is true (at least from what we've seen). Take the iPhone & iPad for instance, They evolved..But really haven't changed. If anything, they're against change.

And I really don't understand what "only to a measurable degree if proven correctly by the numbers" even means?

And I'm pretty sure ur whole post contradicts itself a couple times.

My point was that the pics of "flat" looking OS's posted here will most likely look nothing like what Jony has up his sleeve. And even though its being described as "flat", I have a good feeling that Jony's "flat" is going to be the next trend. Just my opinion.

And it is "Jony" BTW. Lol!

Yeah well its not useless apps for everyone. But I definately agree some of these things should be more integrated to the iOS itself rather than being a separate app.

This should be an interesting week with people creating mockups based on the latest info.

To be honest, I'm rather nervous about iOS7. Based on these rumours I'm getting the impression that the next iOS will try to be a minimalist yet elegant design, but I fear that such an approach will create a rather sterile OS that won't seem attractive to new or existing users.

I'm still looking forward to WWDC and the future though, and hope that I'm just being paranoid.

Trust Jony - but what about 3rd party Apps icons/design?

First up, I think Mr Ive has done enough at Apple to have earned our trust - so probably safe for us to assume he won't screw up. Some will prefer it, some not so. I'm guessing more of the former.

I recall the outcry that the iPhone 5 design wasn't radically different enough from the previous iteration, and I myself was left thinking "I don't need my phone to be thinner" - yet now I marvel at the look and feel, particularly how they made it so thin. Turns out Jony/Apple knew what would please me better than I did.

The biggest question in my mind is how can they create a uniform look & feel across the UI when, presumably, all 3rd party Apps will continue in their luxuriant, colourful and skeuomorphic ways?

Yeah, we will see at the WWDC, but my guess they won't add much more customization features. I'm a technical, geek type and I've almost outgrown the iPhone. I like to configure and have control of everything. You can't do that on an iPhone. As far as the iPad, that's a different story...best tablet on the market.

Oh...my...gosh...

Black & White? Seriously? It's probably time to switch to Android.

Yes, but this wont solve anything, Android already uses B/W UI.

# I wont be complaining about it or be happy about it, until I actually see it.

But in general, it's really difficult to make a good design, which is rather clean and flat, and make it easy to use and to navigate in it at the same time.

I hope Jony knows what he's doing.

If flat and simple was a "failed" design style then Bauhaus would have never become so popular with the non-art critic public. But it's almost a pop icon now. I think you misjudge the general public. They like simple design too. It's easier to use.

Here is a Mondrian to marvel at (notice it's mostly black and white and basic, yet still sophisticated).

Simple flat design is everything but easier to use. If there are no clues for your eyes and your brain, then it always takes a split second to think about your move in UI, this is why Jobs decided to make Original UI so rich, because he knew it will help people to navigate. And please dont tell me that human brain has evolved since 2007.

Ive should still leave there clues for our brains to help us navigate, and I think he knows it. We dont want a DOS era back right?

"And so the public has denounced Jony Ive formerly 'Sir of Apple". Once upon a time the Apple of Steve Jobs eye, Ive is now looked upon as a whore to Windows design ethic, as Snookie's love of pickles. Ive has fallen from the grace with Apple fanboys and is now relegated to blowing lorry drivers, in effort to raise capital to continue his efforts to create the first Twitter phone."

I hope this means the ugly glossy bubbles in iMessage are gone. Yuck.

Just to use that image as an example.

I still think people are over reacting to the black and white thing.

What I'd bet my house on it referring to is changing the blue at the top and bottom to the black / white style of the Podcast app, and the light blue background will become white.

It won't end up looking like a monochrome OS from 1984.

Exactly. But I think people know this. Over reacting is just a form of trolling.

This place should be called MacWhiners! My word!

It should be called Android Troll or Android Feces Agitators. Most of the whiners are Fandroids.

Seriously, any serious person would have faith in Jony Ive and the software team at Apple.
