Well I hope I like this, but I really like the current 3-dimensional appearance of the icons and features in ios. That to me is what makes the overall user experience stand out from the other smartphone OS's out there.

Unless..

As long as the simplicity of iOS is preserved and essential elements are not removed (unlike CD Drive, Firewire and Audio In in iMac) people will be happy in anything!

I hope there's more gray/grey than the title suggests, because small black and white patterns (and other small, high contrast patterns) tend to give me headaches.

I think it's hard to judge what an operating system will look like based on words alone. Especially when those words are coming from "sources" who might not be very reliable.

I'll wait to see what they show us when they are ready. I like the idea of a new lock screen and also that he is apparently changing all aspects of iOS. One of the problems now is that some designs have been updated (like the music app) and some have stayed the same (like settings) and now they don't match.

Hoping For Substance Over "Look"

I hope the the update is more than "fresh paint".

Having recently been added to a "Group Text" by hot-blooded (young) persons unknown to me, I hope there is a way to not only choose whether you want to send a text message TO a "group", but also a way to block from being text'd BY a group (without disabling MMS messaging completely).

and the possibility of FaceTime being moved out of the Phone app into a standalone app for greater visibility

ugh yet another app on my homescreen i'll never use but cant get rid off.

i hope they tweaked the lockscreen, that silly arrow to unlock looks so 2007 and doesnt even work with the overall look on iOS6 anymore. not glossy and too fat.

weather icon needs to show the real temperature too ... whats the point of this silly 23 degrees logo (oh how i miss weathericon on cydia)

and lets not forget the forgotten notification center on the iPad which has nothing to show most of the time.

oh and if you want a preview of iOS 7, just take a look at the music app on your iPhone or iTunes on your computer

I think black is really good for battery life? Could be wrong.

It would on OLED screens which light individual pixels (or shared pixels on the horrible PenTile screens), but the LED backlight is still operating on LCD screens as used on Apple products, so it won't make a difference in iOS.

It sounds like it's going to be an ugly os but it's too soon to tell. I hope they deliver :(

I hope they don't go too far in the other direction, I kind of like and am used to how iOS feels. They are wasting way too many resources in simply changing the appearance, I mean does anyone really care that much? Wouldn't those resources be better used to actually make iOS better functionally and add new features?

I like it. Now that iOS IPS screens are properly calibrated i'd love more Whites and rich Blacks. Also i can't remember the last time Ive designed anything ugly so i'm looking forward to what he churns out.

Just hope it'll support my iPhone 4... Anyone got informations about this?

The iphone4 should get the new icons at least. It shouldn't take up any extra system resources, and the best way to make a clean break from the old IOS would be to roll out the new UI to all existing devices.

For those people who think that this is going to be a mistake, do you really think Apple would change the operating system for their most important product without going through a number of variations and tests first?

There will have been a number of basic concepts developed and then sifted to a handful that went (I expect) right up to executive board level and they will have agreed on the best option before going to the next stage. It won't have been Ive beavering away in a secret room somewhere and then coming out and saying "here we are, this is it".

From a software point of view, getting a more standardised look across the OS would have been the hardest part. Once the different elements are more consistent, then future changes are easier to apply.

Like most others, I will reserve judgement until I see it myself but nothing I read here concerns me and I think it could look much better with a flat, clean and consistent style. If this goes against what Steve Jobs had as his vision of perfection then, respectfully, he was wrong because when you look at iOS critically, it is a bit of a mess and very inconsistent.

It's WP .. err .. I mean iOS 7 indeed ;)

..and they said Palm was dead. The new version of iOS sounds a lot like my original palm pilot ;)

Ever since i added a black wallpaper on my lock and home screen i've (no pun) noticed significantly greater battery life. It's probably just all in my head though.

I personally can't wait to get rid of the current iOS design.

It reminds me of what Windows XP looked like after looking back: cartoonish, too colourful, and too 'playful'.

The iPad1 didn't get iOS6 while it's technically better than the 3GS. iPad mini got Siri and iPad2 not.

People are crying doom and gloom on an unreleased iOS 7?

They must have secret access to the iOS before everyone else ;)

Other changes include the addition of panorama home screen wallpapers that pan as the user swipes between screens, subtle animations in the Weather app

Android has done this since forever (had it on my Droid Eris in 2009 under Android 1.5).

and the possibility of FaceTime being moved out of the Phone app into a standalone app for greater visibility.

Great, more home screen clutter

Interesting to see what Jony Ive has up his sleeve... and let's all hope it's for the best

It may be a big change looks wise, and that could be a good thing. Why not stay open minded until you can actually see it hands on?
