well done! and as you can see the nano is now really nano and very close to the shuffle. therefore i think apple will erase the shuffle completely. if someone wants a shuffle then buy the nano and don't use the display! if you use the remote control on the nano (that works like the one of the shuffle) and but the nano in your pocket (or clip it onto your shirt) you won't even "feel" a difference!
the shuffle was invented in a time where ipods were expensive and heavy. my first shuffle with 512 kb cost 149 us$ but that was still ok compared to the 249 us$ the ipod mini would have cost. you could shake the shuffle wherelse the ipod mini had a harddisk. at that time the shuffle was important for the product line. if the nano is nearly as small as the shuffle it really makes no sense at all.
The shuffle is the wearable iPod so if an iPod with a screen gets smaller enough to be something you wear then to me it makes more sense to be the new shuffle.
The Nano is pocketable and is really conflicting with the touch.
so those two could merge if the touch can be made a bit cheaper.
The classic is pocketable but it's a big pocket and not very comfortable.
and can carry lots of storage.
To me an all touch iPod line up could be on the cards.
Shuffle - 3x3 screen wearable bluetooth so does double duty paired if your phone for hands free. has nike+ functions so it's the one you take to the gym to everywhere really.
Nano - 3 inch screen version of the iPod touch same res as current but slightly smaller screen (yes i know finger size and touch controls but if people followed the UI guidelines then the 44sq.pix buttons on this screen would still be workable for most average size hands.
Classic - 5 inch screen version of the iPod touch double the res of the current iPod touch slightly larger case but no greater volume or weight than the current classic. Could go an interesting route with storage 16gb storage to keep the price down but has and SD slot. so it can carry as much as you dare.
Then when the iPad gets it's refresh if there is still enough room in the market we'll see a new 7inch and upgraded 10inch. again will have both with onboard and SD storage.
The other big change is going to be iPods and iPads will work standalone from now on with a library that syncs to your home storage and other linked pods. time machine style interface will let you delete media from the device but keep the metadata so it can be retrieved if you want and have suitable access to your storage. Want to run completely computer free then it will also work with a me account.
That's my take on the info to date.
