I just want it to work right. i.e.: work like the Windows version of Office. It doesn't have to look the same. Just work the same.

We have users that move from Windows to OS X. They like Mac OS X, they HATE Office for Mac.

Same with me. I spend most of the day in OS X. It does everything I want it to - except run the real Office. I have to load up a virtual machine or boot into Windows just to run Office.

Office for Mac has been Office in name, only so far.

"Outlook 2011" is just a misnomer for Entourage 14.0. And of course, every version of Entourage/Outlook for Mac never works like the previous version. 2011 doesn't look or work like 2008. 2008 doesn't look or work like 2004. Fonts work differently. Labels and colors work differently. Rules work differently. Nothing is consistent with "Office".

In what way is that true?

With OneDrive on Windows I can save to the cloud and not have it take up local storage.

With iCloud it is always on my local drive as well as in the cloud. That is not good as many of the machines these days have SSDs in them so getting iCloud storage beyond the capacity of the SSD is a total waste of space and money.

I have 25 years worth of Word documents on my computer. They are standard correspondence with minimal graphics. The grand total is less than a Gig of space. So not a concern with my 256 Gig SSD.

The real space eater is media. I have over 400 Gig stored on OneDrive and not my computer.

The fact that office for Mac and Windows will be "almost the same" is good for compatibility BUT it also means that we're gonna have an hideous Microsoft design...

Will the Mac version of Excel finally have the statistical add-on that the Windows version has?

Thank goodness Steve Emballmer is no longer the captain of the ship. Maybe now we'll get a version of Mac Office with the full array of features that's in the Windows version.

I have a dream that Microsoft will move the Ribbon from the top and put it on the side. Then I would probably use Word as my exclusive document composer. As much as I like the uncluttered feel of Pages and especially the extra headspace of a Ribbon Free document by default, there are some basic, critical features that Pages lacks. For example, I was writing yesterday on Pages and did a Grammar check. Pages didn't catch extra spaces between words. In short, Pages is not capable of producing an error-free document on its own. I had to copy/drop the text into Word to catch these hard-to-see mistakes.

If this requires a subscription I will certainly Pass. I bought my wife Office for her Mac Air, but refused to use it on mine. I think if they offer a one time cost option, we might upgrade her apps, but on a subscription basis, that is a deal breaker for us. iWorks is good enough for what we need. Actually like it better for everything other than numbers (and that is getting there).

I would say Microsoft's business model is stupid and Apple's makes more sense. Why would you rather have OneDrive only save to the cloud? Redundant backup is your friend. If you would rather trust the cloud and not backup your files locally then you'll see in the long run that way of thinking was a big mistake.

Microsoft's Apple team are good folks

As a Seattleite, I know one of the Microsoft Office for Mac team members. I get the impression that they are Apple devotees, working within Microsoft to bring out the best version of Office for OSX and iOS. Although Office for iPad is not perfect, it's pretty damn good, and it's definitely more an iOS8 app than a "Microsoft app running on an iPad." I expect the same from this team's next version of Office for OSX. Let's cut them some slack, guys, and give them time to do it right.

Hoping you are right!

One Drive lets you do both. Not sure why you consider that to be stupid.

I have been using microsoft office online since I have a 365 subscription

The apps now are so outdated when compared to anything else on my mac it's crazy.

Not mad about the upgrade but why did it take so long?

Yeah, thanks for not reading the post I quoted. If you did you'd see that person stated that One Drive saves only to the cloud and iCloud saves to the cloud and locally which they found to be a hindrance due to taking up hard drive space. Typical reaction from this forum. Gotta love it.

As someone who is forced to live through the hell using of Powerpoint at work, I am begrudgingly "looking forward" to this release.

What I'd really be looking forward to would be a Windows-based viewer for Keynote presentations so I could sell my employer on using better presentation tools, but it really looks like that will never ever happen.

Apple announcing Office for Mac 2015 would have been better and more useful than that shi**y mac mini update.

The mac mini is and has always been a gateway purchase designed to get you to want to upgrade to an iMac or Macbook. Apple will never give it the kind of features the power user wants.

Subscription is a total deal breaker for me.

I'm not a huge Office/etc user, just spreadsheets for accounting, and the odd letter or CV to write. I don't have many issues with the older versions of Office, but I'm increasingly moving stuff to Google Drive.

Finally. Office 2013 for Windows is so much better than office for Mac. Can't wait for the update.

It will be good to get a newer version, 2011 version is looking so dated now.

That being said, on the older Windows versions, I think I still preferred the pre-ribbon format of being able to choose which toolbars and where they went.

But at the moment, I just find using it so frustrating sometimes. Especially when adding images from a file. You click the button, navigate to the folder of images you have, place it, then click the add image button again and rather than remember where you last sourced an image from, it defaults back to another folder and you have to go navigating again. That really frustrates me.
