I'm glad Apple isn't including the headphone jack adapter. I'm speculating, I know, but I'm betting a large percentage of these adapters are still sitting in iPhone boxes or lost in a drawer. It's a small step toward less waste but still a step . . . .

Speaking for myself, I don't even see why Apple includes wired EarPods as I can't count the number of these I've "recycled."

Why Should Apple have to give anything ‘free’, let alone some wireless headphones? Because they deleted a 3.5 mm Jack or are no longer including the lightning adapter? I don’t understand why you think Apple should do something for free because of what exactly?
I don’t know, maybe replace those free pairs of wired headphones?

Nothing is free, the consumer pays for it, Including the packaging, and all the contents inside of the iPhone box. Back to my question, it Still doesn’t explain why you think Apple should give something for free? Based off what?

This sounds about right. Like others, I have never used the thing. I think it still makes sense to include a headset, though, as I see people using them everywhere.

As for the removal of the 3.5mm jack, and the supposed superiority of sound quality of wired headphones, I have to disagree with the notion that 3.5mm ever offered the best connection. Anyone actually concerned with audio quality (which is a bit silly on a phone, but to each his own) would have invested in an external DAC, and those have always connected through the lightning port (or the 30-pin prior to that). So in that regard, nothing has changed.

I was going to have to buy one that had both charging and headphones on it anyway. Neither of my vehicles have Bluetooth and I use Waze and frequently listen to podcasts while driving so I need to be able to power the phone while also feeding the audio through the AUX port. Thank goodness they are only $13 on Amazon.

oh no, $10, the humanity!

I guess if that is your decision criteria, it makes it easy for you to decide

I presume Apple would not consider lowering the price of the 2018 iPhones by $10. So it’s basically a profit for them at the customers expense. I don’t use the bundled wired EarPods as it does not fit my ears, maybe Apple should cease including those by either lowering the cost of the device by that amount or provide an Apple Store gift card.

I have lightening wired earplugs from a third-party that I prefer over the Apple’s version, same with Bluetooth version that is water and sweat proof, unlike the AirPods and Beats products.

Of course not!
Tim needs to start the march towards 2 trillion now…

Time to squeeze the lemon some more and see what else we can nickel and dime people for.

Next up no SIM tray eject tool.

It is not the quality...it is the damn lag from Bluetooth headphones. Even the AirPods are plagued with this.

Plus remembering to charge another device and limited usage duration.

I guarantee if the dongle included allowed to charge and listen to audio at the same time it would be more useful. A ‘Y’ adapter, one side female lightening connector and on the other 3.5mm audio jack. The present dongle is a lame excuse to be beneficial.

Really not a big deal. Most never use headphones with their phones anyways.

I have a pile of these things sitting around, along with all the chargers and headphones from previous phones and test phones. Not all that useful.

Is that sarcasm? The large majority use headphones with their phones

Omit it if their please, just lower the product price to an equivalent retail value.

More like bragging, what this poster believes applies to his/her usage it must apply to all, because you know the world revolves around them and usage statistics.

Did you just say Apple made a product that’s not useful?? That’s impossible!

One day, I guarantee in the near future Apple will back themselves into a corner with a useless bit of kit they say is innovative, yet people will see its absolute rubbish and literally does as much as the first iPhones, trust me they are going backwards.

The charger port will go next, then anyone who used the camera kit for music, other apps etc will also be more inclined to buy kit that is more useful.

iOS devices biggest problems was that they were so rigid in terms of adaptability with other systems/ideas outside of Apple, they started to get better now again going back to the stubborn nonsense, which at this standard is not good enough.

I feel that whenever a headphone jack article comes up, I need to comment on how the original iPhone had a recessed headphone port that many headphones could not be plugged into. Sure that was ages ago right? Well it is when people were still frantically using iPods - there were probably more 3.5mm headphones in use during those times then ever before.

Cook & Co’s. Vision is to make iOS devices a slab of glass no connector ports at all a completely sealed device. Charging will occur via wireless or magnetic induction (Apple Watch).

You will have speaker grills, earphone speaker, mic and egress holes. This will allow for a thinner device (no one asked for) and MFi can just be terminated as USB-C can be attached to a wireless charging pad/disk.

Maybe Apple will deign to include a USB-C adapter then?

Wishful thinking as the wireless keyboard, mouse and trackpad all have lightening PD. Apple will move away from lightening for iOS devices and use the wireless charging/magnetic induction (Apple Watch). It started with the Apple Watch, next iPhone and once capable the iPad. Expect more loss of ports and finally the dongle market. I adopted the cloud sometime back and have not looked back. If you do not have high speed internet, you are in a world of hurt.

Sticking with my 6s plus as long as possible. Can’t see myself spending $160 on AirPods. My wired headset works just fine. I use it everyday for conference calls. Don’t have to charge it. No chamce of losing just one ear piece and it has the added benefit of working with other devices that have a headphone jack.

After suffering on an 11 hour plane ride I dubbed "Screaming babies on a plane", I decided to purchase headphones - went wireless. So ultra-convenient, can't imagine using wired, ever. Use on my Mac, my iPhone, my Apple Watch, even my smart tv.

Wireless earphones for some of us are a disaster! Ever tried to use wireless earphones while working out? I ride a bike and would never dare to use a wireless earphone.

I wonder how many people out there insist that they must have a set of wired headphones to get the best quality possible when they listen to their lossy-compressed music?

Again, not a question of music quality, but safety and ability to answer phone calls while in (fast) motion!

Let’s get a USB-C to headphone dongle!

Unfortunately for iOS devices this is not happening. iOS devices will go wireless everything and macOS will go USB-C.

If only the iPhone Upgrade Program was the iOS Upgrade Program that included the AW and iPad line. iOS device subscription ;):D

‘Apple is pushing for a truly wireless future’

But they’ll include a pair of EarPods that connect via lightning?

Mixed messages :eek::p:D
