I think Apple have been a bit too aggressive getting rid of ports. There are still not many USB-C devices on the market.
Not even their phones or magic mouse or pencil or airpods or watch charger......

I mena the only USB C accessory they sell is their computer's power adapter.

Is there a female lightning to male 3.5mm headphone jack adapter out there? Or would you also need a converter in between?

No there is not. That’s one of my beefs with Apple’s move — they didn’t provide full functionality with their headphone jack replacements. There’s no way to use a Lightning set of EarPods with a Mac for instance, or anything else for that matter. That requires either carrying around two sets of headphones with different connectors, or using the same old outadated 3.5mm headphones with an adapter you were using before Apple got the courage to remove the headphone jack.

I don’t mind dongles, but at least give me one, so I can embrace this new technology Apple is pushing.

In addition, there’s no way to share a Bluetooth connection on an iPhone, so that two friends can listen to the same audio source, nor is there a way to do it with a Lightning connector, short of using the dongle and going back to the old 3.5mm headphones.

The most hysterical commercial I have seen put out by Apple is the woman dancing in her fantasy world with the AirPods, and she meets a man on the street, and gives him one of her AirPods to share in her experience, which has now gone from glorious stereo immersion to monaural for both, with the harsh noise of reality now bombarding the other ear. It’s ridiculous that Apple eliminated the headphone jack but didn’t offer a fully functional replacement.

You’re overly dismissive of Apple simply because you don’t appreciate the concept of how this company is. No need to try to burden me with your negativity. I’m not interested in what you think about Apple cares or doesn’t care about the consumer, as that’s left for me to make that decision.

I didn’t ignore anything, you asked me a question and I answered it. But to your question now, they don’t have to include any wireless headphones. Your post is being very egregious and unnecessary just because you think they should include something that they _don’t_ have to or are obligated to. Stop being so presumptuous.

Wrong. Apple has treated me very well over the years with the product They delivered in exchange with their services and customer service. I can be as loyal as I want to without having one random member on a tech form trying to tell me what I should believe otherwise. Its not working.

Just saying the truth. The truth hurts as they say.

All I’m saying is I doubt Tim Cook would lose any sleep if you decided to stop buying their products which sums it up perfectly.

Jeez, how many articles do we really need on these trivial things? Those who bought a 7/8/Plus/X already have one or two. Others bought a 2nd one from Apple. Others use wireless AirPods, Beats or other headphones.

Who cares if a $9 or less adapter is included with the new phones or not? Not like people are going to pass on the 2018 phones because they don’t.

It’s hard to make money if you sell for cost. They’d be losing the profit from every unit that they otherwise would have sold to a willing buyer.

It’s fine to want something for a lower price but it’s not something I’d hold my breath waiting around for. People always complain Apple’s prices are too high, but they’re got 125,000 employees and a huge $1 billion/month R&D budget. Every product sold has to carry its fair share of that massive overhead.
Cry me a river when it comes to Apple. They can certainly add AirPods and still make a tidy profit per sale. They can easily add AirPods and still have the highest profit margin in the industry.

Apple sold maybe 50 million iPhone X. If they included airpods, that would cost Apple at least $2 billion. They’d also lose $1.59 billion in revenue including $600 million in gross profit, if even 20% of those buyers represent lost sales. Why would they do that?

You might as well say Apple could afford to cut prices $50 per iPhone and they’d still make a tidy profit per sale. You might think they make too much profit, but that’s not relevant.

Apple is not a charity. They are a for-profit business. They pay their executive team big bucks to maximize profit, not throw billions of dollars down the drain.

btw Apple doesn’t have the highest profit margin in the industry.

Yet would still be a stupid business decision

Why Should Apple have to give anything ‘free’, let alone some wireless headphones? Because they deleted a 3.5 mm Jack or are no longer including the lightning adapter? I don’t understand why you think Apple should do something for free because of what exactly?
I sell cell phones for a living. I can't tell you how many people don't even use the included earpods. So I agree with you. Plus it will only drive up the coast of the phone with people already complaining about price. So why give another accessory that a lot of people won't use. Why do people think apple owes them the world. Don't like it go use another phone.

My goodness, it has nothing to do with Apple owing their customers anything. Some of you people can be so damn dense. The fact is that Apple is pushing the wireless narrative. If they want more people to use wireless headphones then they should include wireless headphones with all iPhones that don’t have a headphone jack. Word of mouth alone would boost sales of AirPods.

Also why do some of you care so much about Apple’s profits? Who cares how much they make. I just simply can’t understand the glee around here when Apple profits are discussed. It’s really kind of creepy and weird.

If you owned Apple stock, I don’t think you would find talk of profits creepy or weird lol.

Apple products are expensive, get over it. Your plan to give away AirPods would cost them billions, and it’s not going to happen. Does that make sense?

Word of mouth is boosting sales of AirPods. At $160 a pop.

When sales decline, we’ll know stuff has gotten too expensive or not enough stuff has been bundled with it. Until then, I don’t see the incentive to include AirPods with a phone. In fact I think it would be a horrible, ridiculous business move. Why give away the cow when people think the milk is great and will hand you cold hard cash for it? You can use the phone right out of the box with EarPods. Want a bad-ass wireless upgrade? Boom, $160.

And yes, as someone else pointed out the obvious, many of us are shareholders and aren’t looking for Apple to be a socialist “Robin Hood” type corporation that gives thing away because it’s “fair” according to a few grumbling consumers. I like their brand image and desirability right where it is. As a result of their success, the gains I’ve made on AAPL would fund everything I’ve ever bought from Apple 100 times over, easily. “Thanks, Tim.”

Did you just say Apple made a product that’s not useful?? That’s impossible!
Macrumors is not going to be representative of Apple’s market.

When you’re good at something, never do it for free.

Really not a big deal. Most never use headphones with their phones anyways.

I have a pile of these things sitting around, along with all the chargers and headphones from previous phones and test phones. Not all that useful.

Until Apple decided to do away with the headphone jack, Everyone used their wired headphones with their iPhone. Not sure where you are getting your information.

I use my headphones plugged in on a plane, while at home, while driving, while riding my bike, etc.

So now the current iPhone is not only omitting the headphone jack but also leaving out the adapter? So I guess we are all are supposed to get rid of our $500 headphones with a plug to accommodate Apple?

Actually basing on iPhone headphone usage data. You know Apple collects that, right?

That’s kind of a leap. I’d say it’s a more logical conclusion that Apple expects you to buy a $9 adapter rather than get rid of your $500 headphones. And if you’ve bought an iPhone 7, 8 or X in the last two years, you already have one built into the price of the phone.

I lost the adapters numerous times, or forgot them and left them attached to another cord. It's a poor idea.

I really don't mind this. With my AirPods and Bose Bluetooth headset, I have no need for the dongle.

Regardless, you see how a $9 adapter, even purchased and replaced multiple times doesn't even come close to your supposition that Apple expects you to get rid of your $500 headphones? Only when the cost of replacing those $9 adapters, or the inconvenience of relying on them makes the trade off unacceptable for continued use of your headphones, does that factor into the equation.

Personally speaking, I have a Lightning adapter on the end of my headphones. It basically lives there and never gets used with anything else -- I've never lost it, or left it behind. For $9, I have purchased additional adapters for the cord in my car and the cord in my house. That $18 spent is far better trade-off in my opinion than getting rid of a $500 pair of headphones.

Having to deal with the PAIN of the iPhone 10, it may be my LAST iphone. I paid $300 for my Bose "wired" headphones before the wireless ones came out, and I refuse to buy new headphones just because Apple wants more of my money. Can't charge phone on plane and use headphones at same time without a $15 dongle from Amazon. Nope. Going to get a Galaxy next time, unless of course Samsung does away with it too. :)

Do you hear yourself? Buying multiple adapters to "adapt' to Apple's idea that we do not need a headphone jack. I don't feel I am stuck in the past, but to just drop a feature and expect people to work around it is pretty arrogant at best, and devious at worst. No thanks.

Sounds like the best solution for you. Re: the Galaxy I think you’re safe; I don’t think they’ll ever be able to get rid of the headphone jack. They take so much glee in making fun of iPhone users for that, they’re going to be stuck with thicker phones and large bezels from here on out.

Works for them though; their customers more and more seem limited to those that actively dislike Apple, rather than actually like Samsung. That’s why their ads don’t talk about what they think is right with Samsung, but what they think is wrong with iPhone.
