I love how so many people always find things to hate about the new iPhones every year when the leaks start rolling out but come conference time the RDF will be cranked up to full blast and it won't be a problem anymore.

I expect most of the 'haters' to be lining up in droves to purchase one. Works every time.

Yup. I'd love to have a breakdown of how many of those here ranting about the ugly bands are ranting about Apple.com, VZW.com, and AT&T.com being down at 3am on the day of preorders bc they want to have their phone on launch day.

i dont know why people hate on it. it looks a lot better than the ugly back of the iphone 5/5S with its different colored bits

Because:

People get bands, they don't get these bands. They're not nice looking at all. Whereas the 5 was jewel like this looks very pedestrian.

There is no question that the 5/5s was a better-executed aesthetic design. The white bands on the white 5/5s line up with things and are indistinguishable from the white glass on the back. It all flows. The bands on this shell match nothing in color, and stand out as an apparent design feature - when I think we all know it is actually just serving radio signal strength.

Also - the finer the joint, the harder it is to manufacture - for example the hairline seam between glass and metal on the 5/5s does say "jewel-like," whereas these relatively giant, crude bands say "plastic-molded children's toy." I am in a design-oriented profession, but I am pretty sure nearly all humans pick up these varying levels of "perceived quality" subconsciously. You may just have a higher tolerance for ugliness (or pragmatic application of function WAY over form) than many of us. ;)

There were some other leaks posted by 9to5Mac last week that showed a grey back with black bands, though the bands were thinner than these. IF this is a legit part and it's what the back of the phone will look like I'm curious to know why the bands are so thick. They're thicker than the bands on the 4 & 5. I can't see Apple choosing them for aesthetic reasons.

Exactly.

Maybe this isn't real and/or the black will look better... I'll get the phone no matter what, but this might end up being the first time in 5 years that I'll want to put a case on mine.

you must have VERY low expectations in general, because you called this god awful design beautiful..it's really not beautiful,it's ugly and it's deginitely the ugliest iPhone after 5c.
So disappointed.

...I mean it couldn't be that they have different aesthetic tastes than you bc your egocentric views are the canons by which all others are measured, no?

Get a grip...

They're getting the band(s) back together!

well, I'll probably just put it into a case within 30 seconds of buying it, so I'll probably never notice the bands anyway.

Rubber grip?

I have a theory... Aside from the obvious antenna factor, rubber bands are there for better grip purposes? I for one don't have that much of a problem with the them as with the protruding camera. I'm still going to order one as soon as they are available for delivery :). Shut up and take my money!

those bands are really ugly, so far, it seems like real step down in design in comparison to what ip4 and ip5 looked like:(

So it was not ugly in your opinion if the bands are full pieces top and bottom like before? I really hate that if Apple still keep the design with 2 off-color pieces at top and bottom.

I don't really care for the bands. Regardless, a case is definitely going on my device!

miserable, go enjoy your android and stop moaning! ;)

I like the bands. Really sick of that stupid "These bands are ugly" BS. If someone doesn't like the look of something, it's a matter of personal taste, and obviously, they are more than welcome to express their opinion, but some people act like there is some objective rule of what is beautiful, some kind of "Smartphone Beauty Bible" where the first commandment is "Thou shalt not have bands!"

In any case, my phone goes into a case, and even if it didn't, there are very few instances where I actually look at the back of my phone. And I promise, if anyone on the street ever comes up to me and tells me that the back of my phone is ugly, I am going to donate $1000 to the charity of that person's choice.

disagree, if anything making it all metal with the antenna bands looks more polished and upscale than the 5/5s. don't get me wrong, I love the 5/5s design its sleek and upscale but the iphone 6 will be everything but pedestrian.

Maybe. I'm still holding out hope the final product a Apple announces will look better or if this is it there's a really good reason for these thick bands.

i actually love it. finally the top and bottom r the same color and material as the center. i always found this odd on the iPhone 5/5S. those bands match the sides and make it a bit less boring than the iPod Touch

Its not rubber, its plastic,

To whoever said this is the black phone... I assume even people who are colorblind can tell that's not black. Also, I can't see them using rubber on any part of the phone. I think the bands blend nicer in these photos, certainly better than the tacky dummy units we saw initially.

IF this is legit I almost get the feeling Cook or Jeff Williams in Ops gave a mandate to the designers to come up with something less difficult to manufacture. I'm still curious about the bands, especially the thickness because of other leaks that showed thinner bands. At this point it's really hard to know what's legit and what's a 3D mockup or Chinese knockoff.

These leaks are getting better looking with each batch. Still not sold on the bands but we're getting there.

Noooooooooooooo! This is NOT good. There is no 5.5" coming Sept 9th. Sorry Apple, you may have lost a ton of business to Samsung Note 4. And I don't care about the stupid geeky iwatch. Just build the 5.5" and give people what they want. Note to Apple, hire Samsung executives. They give consumers what they want.

where did you see a confirmation that apple will not release or build the 5.5?

Doesnt look that bad. I wonder what the black one is like though.

if the space gray has space gray bands... and the gold has gold bands.. i won't be able to decide.

So the antenna bands are real? Damn it. It is disgustingly ugly. It's extremely disappointing to see that Apple couldn't figure out a better design for the antenna. It is not pleasing aesthetically at all.

This is the same thing people say every two years when the design changes. Just look at the comments on the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 redesign where people claimed they were the ugliest denies and completely "un-Apple." Wait till Apple unveils it and everyone is going to change their mind and say this is a beautiful phone.
