AppleInsider updates after a long break, and under new management and claims to detail specs on new iMacs.

According to their report, the low end with feature a 15" LCD at 867MHz at $999, with the rest of the line sporting 17" LCD's ranging from $1199 - $1699 and toping out at 1GHz.

15" LCD, 867MHz, CD-RW, $999
17" LCD, 867MHz, Combo Drive, $1199
17" LCD, 867MHz, SuperDrive, $1499
17" LCD, 1GHz, SuperDrive, $1699

While AppleInsider has had a good rumor record in the distant past, the site has not seen regular updates and has also seen a change in management. As a result, overall reliability of its current incarnation is unknown.

Our own information suggests that Appleinsiders' prices/specs are incorrect, and we expect $1299, $1499 (15" LCD, Superdrive), and $1799 price points with no CD-RW model.

This sounds great, but shouldn't we have seen these already at apple.com if they are infact coming out today (as TS claims?). Midnight has come in gone in Cupertino (Apple usually makes changes to their site at exactly midnight Cupertino time)

Last week's Powermacs were announced at 8am PST and i vaguely remember previous upgrades being announced at the same time, so I wouldn't be expecting to see them before then, assuming the rumours are correct.

woudnt this also mean eMac price drops? who would buy a 1499 emac with a superdrive, when hey can get a 17" iMac with a superdrive for the same price?

So, MacRumors thinks the AI specs for the 17" models are correct, but wil come at the pricepoints predicted bij TS. That seems like a nice rumorblend to me. If this is true (no longer having the 15"), then Apple is creating more distance between eMac and iMac. In fact the iMac seems to be targeted at the prosumer (or did we ban that word after the Cube?);) I wonder what they'll do with the eMac; lower prices, better configurations or both.

P.S. The European Apple stores just went down for maintainence!

I don't know what time the official announcement was last week, but the Apple Store updates were done a bit before 6AM Pacific Time.

actually, I think AI's report is incorrect... of course they might hit a couple of details, but I stand by this report.

Sorry, I thought you meant that AI was only wrong about the prices and the 15" but correct for the specs. AI's prediction for the top model seems to resemble yours.

Well, we will know in about an hour:cool:

But only the European stores, apparently.

No problem, everything is going the same way as last week. Then the Euro-shops also went down first. Then apple.com showed the new hardware and the euro-shops went online about an hour after that. So, new hardware is still on its way!

867Mhz and 1Ghz...now those numbers just seem to sound right. I guess we will have to wait and find out what is going on today with all the other specs, but an entry level 867Mhz and a high end 1Ghz makes sense to me looking at the rest of Apple's line.

strange how the uk store is down like in the pic and the same as during macworld sf but the usa one....maybe we are gonna get all the goodies and leave the us out as a gift for us paying crazy prices .... hehe

Damn right baby. You better believe it. New hardware is coming. But I think you are well in sci-fi realm with your theory about Apple giving preference to foreign customers above american ones...:D

On a side note, I cannot believe the pace at which Apple are updating their lines... Since the beginning of the year we have had 1 new line of hardware (PB 12 and 17), 2 new apps (keynote and FCExpress), 1 iApp update (iLife), 1 PowerMac line update and now this (whatever this is...).

AMAZING!!!

You forgot the updates to the PowerMacs in that list. And the iApp update is three seperate products that were updated. Among other smaller announcements by Apple at MacWorld.
