It really is a lot heavier than I expected. I guess I have become accustomed to my Kindle 2 so this was noticeable. The iPad has such a beautiful screen for displaying pics. Would be useful for client meetings to display a digital portfolio.

Typing wasnt fun but Safari with flash would make this a more attractive device for me. It certainly is an attention grabber.

The digital portfolio would be the only thing I'd use it for. The iPad screams digital portfolio for media content and such. I think I was so surprised by the weight of the iPad because I've held lighter full fledged computers. Or it may just be my imagination.

Either way, it's nothing I'd hold in my hands all day, I'd have to put it in my lap or rest it against something after a short time.

I am waiting to see if the HP slate can be hacked with OSX on it. Having a full fledged Mac OS X tablet for around $600 would pull me away from the iPad. If not, then I'll bite the bullet on the 32 or 64GB model.

Rubbish. The iPod touch is a small iPad. Do your research!

Truth is, if the iPad came out first, I'd probably love it more, and once the iPod Touch came out I'd be pissed off that it's just a small iPad. :D

Isn't it obvious?

1. It's the "computer" for idiots who don't know what a computer is.

2. It's the "computer" for idiots who have nothing to create.

3. It's the "computer" for idiots who feel a pathological need to support Steve Jobs in his mentally declining years.

I agree, iPad may be used for that. On the other hand if you really want to impress the clients, would not you want to use a bigger screen? Many pictures will benefit from bigger screen.

Looking forward to Printing

I am looking forward to getting my iPad 3G, which should be here in about 10 days, according to the email Apple just sent me. I am mostly interested to see how printing will work out. Has anyone printed sucessfully using a Bluetooth printer?

Gps

Brilliant and I agree (and hope to be able to add a camera), but the wi-fi iPad does not have GPS!

I am getting a 3G iPad, in the hope that its integrated GPS can be used for a high res version of Navigon, and also in the hope that I can use a local 3G provider when I travel abroad to avoid the preposterous charges that people report with the iPhone.

I wonder if it will be able to use 3G triangulation to assist the GPS, even if you haven't paid for a 3G subscription for a particular month.

How I learned to stop worrying and love the Ipad.
By- Josh Frank

So here is why I waited in line Saturday morning at 7:30 am to get the Wi- Fi enabled Ipad (32 gig) version.
The reason is simple, all the reasons not to get it, have solutions that in the end make it…

a) Unnecessary to wait for later versions and…

b) have creative workarounds that make the Ipad an even more important and attractive device for doing everything you need to do with a computer and MORE.

So I have decided to list the reasons not to get it along side the solutions that invalidate the reasons not to. Make sense? Ok, lets go…

Reasons not to get the Ipad-

1. The first version has no 3G only localized Wi-Fi!

It is a moot point. 3g is slow. It’s yesterday’s technology. Within the year all phones and PDAs will be running the super speedy 4g . More importantly at this very moment you can have a 4g Ipad!
Sprint has a 60 dollar a month hotspot bubble you can carry around wherever you go and clear has one for $40! Only 10 dollars more then atts Ipad 3g service! Also by getting an exterior “Hotspot” you can Use it with your regular laptop and Iphone making it a multi-purpose hotspot Not just a extra expense that only caters to your Ipad. Deal breaker Averted!
See them here…

2. Keyboard dock doesn’t even come out for two more weeks and it’s big and not very portable.

Enter the mini Bluetooth Mac keyboard. Super cute, the size of a laptop keyboard display runs on two double aas and communicated with Ipad. 10 dollars less then keyboard dock, multiple purposes so it works with all your Bluetooth enabled computers not just your Ipad and it is available now for 10 dollars less then dock. Buy the Ipad stand basic doc and you have a even more portable computer!
3. It’s not a portable computer. It can’t replace my laptop.

Oh contraire! Welcome to the wonderful new world of Ipad apps! This was the big holdback for me at first. Can I really do everything I do with my MacBook on the Ipad so I can just take my Ipad with me to work at my office/ coffee shop.
The day that I will remember for as long as I compute is the day that apple announced it’s word program app for Ipad and final draft announced my scriptwriting program app for Ipad. These are the programs I use for my work and it made it Clear that over the coming Months every program one Might use on a computer would be translated into a app for the Ipad.
With app’s there is no limit to the programs you will have access to on your Ipad, making it a true mobile replacement for your laptop on the go.
4. No flash!

I spit on your flash! Most major websites and already CBS and a few others are switching to the far more reliable hgml5!
5. It only has up to 64 gigs of memory!

Hello netflix streaming, slingbox (your home dvr, cable and apple tv anywhere device), hulu app (for watching network tv on the way) and Cloud computing! These wonders will make it so that you do not have to store all your hard drive eating media on your Ipad you can grab them from the heavens and watch them anywhere!
6. No camera!

Ok a tough one however I am fairly certain that within a few Months you will be able to add on externally or send it in to have one installed once the new iPhone comes out with iChat or you can just use the far more portable Iphone 4g.
7. No USB

Keeping in line with the trimmed down MacBook air. The gods at apple know something we don’t. Within a fortnight or a bit longer we will be able to do everything thru the air. We can already print, download files, and programs thru the air and even save our hard drive to a place in the clouds and transfer files to other phones and computers via Bluetooth and of Coarse email files. If you must add media to your Ipad from a external device on the go and don’t have a computer at hand you can use their camera kit to upload media directly to the Ipad.

So there you are, 6 months of creative problem solving thru thinking outside the box solutions that talked myself into an Ipad by eliminating the reasons not to get an Ipad.
After spending a few hours with it it is clear that it is an innovative creation once again, ahead of it’s time. Over the coming months I believe more app’s will be added that make it even more of a replacement for your laptop on the go.

Using it is like figure skating with your daily chores, workload, media, art, and daily life. It truly is a new way to interface with your computer life.

The end. Bye Bye.
