Ive been waiting for a file manager since the iphone was released. Since that that time, every iPhone update had been rumored to have a file manager. You can only shock a hampster so much before he learns which button not to push; in other words, I'll believe it when I see it. I, however, highly doubt those specific updates will he included with the next firmware.

What I really want is the ability to quickly scroll to the bottom of a webpage like you can to the top of a webpage. Hopefully Steve Jobs reads this and answers my wishes.

I would die for the SMS WiFi thing. I really can't see them doing this, but if they did I would be in heaven (damn you AT&T and not getting service where I work).

In a word: yes. Frankly, I'd be surprised if AT&T and Apple don't have an agreement prohibiting Apple from making that type of logical improvement for the iPhone. That software update would take a significant chunk out of AT&T's revenue stream.

Or it could add a big chunk.
SMS over Wifi which may have a much cheaper rate could also be added to the touch, and mobile macs via iChat upgrade. At&t could sell credits via iTunes.

hopefully

oo man i really hope that this firmware update includes flash because i have found that a lot of the sites that i visit on my ipod touch show a bunch of lego bricks where it needs a addon to view it

Hope that if Flash support comes, the sites you're visiting aren't the processor-hungry, every animation built on the timeline sites that promise to crash your browser on your iPhone or at least drag like a boring lecture. That would suck.

The closer we get, the more rumors that will surface. I personally don't think the next update will contain a bunch of new stuff. Instead I think Apple will have some bug fixes to help the phone run smooth with new apps installed and I think they will throw in their own app or two, something like iChat. It seems weird that there would be a whole bunch of new features other than apps since there was just an update released a little over a month ago. If you look how long it took Apple between two big updates before, it was about 4 months. Hopefully we will find out soon.

How many of you also get the feeling that only the dot updates will be free and that when it goes to 2.0 firmware like a new OS that even the iPhone owners will have to pay for it???

Well, depending on the price and what all it contained, I wouldn't mind this. If going to 2.0 meant a whole bunch of new apps, features, bug fixes, and a new look it would be worth some money. Certainly nothing near the price of something like Leopard, but $20-$30 or so could be reasonable if it really did improve the phone and make it seem like a brand new iPhone in the way that Leopard was like "adding a new Mac to your Mac."

i think this is just an alternate way of saying 'ichat' for the iphone. i think your regular SMS text messages will behave as normal, but there will be an ichat application which can be used on wifi connections. (which still doesn't make much sense... seeing as AIM works just fine on sidekicks via tmobile's edge network)

yo

am I the only one happy without flash I can see the browsing experience being extremely bad with flash and all for what? Rollover that we can't use? Flashs days are numbered except for commercial sites for films and cars. I like browsing almost ad free.

I know what you mean about annoying ads. But some sites are entirely flash (such as this cool one for iPhone cases www.vajacases.com), You tube (the full version, not the one we have on iPhone) and many other sites using Flash to embed video/interviews/etc..

I think that will be the case pretty much right on. I think the free dot releases will be mostly stability with a few new features and maybe an app here or there as they have been, but the full version releases will go hand in hand with the new hardware releases since iPhone is meant to go longer without hardware refreshes because of the software platform, and this is when we will see significant apps and features that people have been begging for.

IF flash is in the new update, they better make it customizable...

Flash is great for some things, but I don't need to have my web page load slower due to some stupid flash advertisement on a site. They better have something like ad block for firefox to plug into safari to do this.

Apple... please come out with video recording support for the iPhone! I would even pay for it, i don't care, I just want to finally have it!

Check out my implementation of it in my post on the first page of this thread :)

I'm thinking that it would be best if the flash player start seperately from the page...For example:
You're looking at a web page, and the box where flash player is, displays a little flash icon, and the it doesn't begin until you touch it, (maybe even open up seperately) that way not all the flash on all the pages is running...

and you're only running what you want to see...

Iphone Two Dreams

Obviously they would also add an iChat AV app for this front iSight as well maybe only on WiFi now or 3G when that comes. So this is the draft of my implementation. You guys like?
That whold be sweet! What about using that new nano battery, in theory they could make it half the size but still have it hold five times more energy that the current battery, that whould give them room for a gps and a 3g transmitter. They chould just get rid of the actual phone transmitter, use 3g and wifi connection for a ip-phone connection threw skype and have ATT just charge us for the data connection. They could also use Intel's new processor thats lighter and faster. That would be good hardware. :D

except that the 3g chip is the phone transmitter...

maybe they will fix the drop call epidemic..

i spent over an 2 hrs on the phone with them today over it and they wouldn't acknowledge the problem, but said they would replace the phone for free b/c it's a known issue and it's still under warranty.

yet there is no epidemic of drop calls...

lol, i don't think the guy i spoke with was very sharp, nonetheless.

Like all I hope they drop flash into the update, I imagine they will drop a switch to turn it off in the safari settings. I find it highly annoying not being able to open all websites on my iPhone. Can't see them dropping much more bluetooth functionality in though....

sms forward

i'd really like the option to Forward sms's, should be a synch on the multitouch. but if copy&paste solves this it'd do, but still not as quick.

...ah still holing out for bluray in a mac, zzz...
