Irrelevant or not, there are a lot more people lately with anecdotes about quality control with their products...MBP screen and heat problems, iMac screen problems, Macbook case problems, battery problems, etc....enough so that Apple had better get more focused on it, otherwise they're going to find themselves on the wrong end of that reputation ;)

I am not saying there are no quality control issues.
However…
A lot more people are using Apple products at present than ever before.
Quality control can never catch all the bad apples. (Pardon the pun.)

MBP needs to go Blu and get better BATTERY life!

New processors = duh
Multi touch = blah
More HD space and RAM = whatever

What the MBP really needs is:
1) to run COOLER so that my future children have a fighting chance and

2) better battery life. Seriously, if :apple: found a way to develop a battery that doubled the competition they would literally double their marketshare!!

3) I'm waiting to upgrade my MBP until it gets a Blu-ray drive. I'm pissed that :apple: has waited so long. It's not like them to be cowardly when it comes to adopting new and innovative formats--usually it's the opposite. This is especially true since el Jobso is on the BDA board!

Anyway, when the MBP does go Blu I'll upgrade, and also move up to the 17"...I do regret compromising the screen size/portability on my current model and going with 15". Next time I'm all in baby!

Yep, you can put me on that list. AppleCare just got finished replacing the second bad Alu-Book I've had in the past few years, all because of problems ultimately related to design. I for one would rather have a laptop that's .25" thicker or whatever, if it means better ventilation and more room to put the hardware that should be in there for proper functionality. A sleak design is nice, but ultimately doesn't mean anything if you're constantly having to send your equipment in for repair.

what chaps my butt is how many people think Apple should cater to an individual's wants (not necessarily needs) rather than their customer base as a whole, with little understanding about engineering and business practices.

The fact is Apple's been working on your new MacBook Pro for months now, and when it's ready, they'll release it. Do you think it's as simple as replacing a CPU and a couple of chips? There's a lot of engineering and testing work, even for a simple speed bump.

People who think Apple should cater only to them really need to get over themselves.

And to those who scoff at Apple's build and design quality, remember, they have the highest quality control in the industry, whether or not you have an irrelevant anecdote to the contrary.

LOL. Poster, please check yourself. Apple is a public company and needs to sell products and we are the ones who buy them. They need to cater to us. Also, it doesn't take that long to re-engineer a new design. They sure don't spend that much time testing them. They let us do that hence the Rev A horror stories.

public company means apple caters to shareholders

Apple has only been selling Intel for computers for TWO years. They transitioned everything and still managed to make money.

They sure aren't perfect but for playing catchup, they are doing a pretty good job.

Cannibalism

So what, a sale is a sale... both are Apple product... money will still belong to Apple. Do Apple really think that if I buy a MBA today, I'll sell it tomorrow for a new MBP ? I'm less and less impressed about Apple.

First, no one, Apple included, thinks that you or anyone else would sell their MBA and buy a new MBP--that's not the concept of cannibalism. The concept is that a successful product line will have differentiation.

The iPod line for instance, prior to the iPhone release, was the shuffle (cheap), nano (more expensive), and video iPod (most expensive). These products differentiated themselves from each other by price and features, and subsequently, each targeted a different group of consumers. When the iPhone was announced, there was much discussion on the impact that the phone would have on sales (especially following the price drop that brought it much closer to the video iPod price point) of the video iPod. The difference here was that the benefit to Apple (read: "profits") of a buyer choosing to get an iPhone instead of a video iPod was substantial due to the structuring of Apple's partnership with AT&T on profits from contracts.

What is different here is that the differentiation of MBP vs. MBA since the MBA's release has been size/weight and multi-touch capabilities (obviously there are FAR more differences evident those who follow these products with the voracity and knowledge that the MR community has... but there are a lot of uninformed buyers out there). The worry is that with the MBP (likely) getting multi touch capabilities that the MBP and MBA will be going after largely the same consumer, which is poor business sense and an inefficient use of company resources (having two substitute products that could target the same consumer).

This is what analysts are concerned with and what Apple has no doubt weighed. To say that you are "less and less impressed" with Apple for making sure that they have a strong product line and are running a successful business is foolish and ignorant at best.

2) better battery life. Seriously, if :apple: found a way to develop a battery that doubled the competition they would literally double their marketshare!!

It's a scientific fact. Do you have any reasons for not doing this yet, Apple? Do that, make the MBP thinner and add a Blu-ray player and your sales with quadruple, guaranteed! K THNX, bye.

new mbp?

So I am finally making the switch from a PC to the (new) mbp.

Do you all think they'll move to a 256mb videocard for the baseline model?

:)
Funny, but I've been a hard core pac user for many years, and I'm pissed off. I bought at least 7 machines and most of them had failures. I think Apple's biggest problem is that their devoted fan boys are ready to forgive anything. At first, this attitude seems to help Apple, but then, just like it happens to companies in protected economies with monopolies, their quality and service drop. So Apple fans are actually harming Apple in the long run. Apple needs to confront the problems of direct competition.

Funny, I have 3 Macs that were purchased over a 3 year period and I never had a single hardware or quality issue.

Bugs in OS and applications yes, but all software has bugs.

May want to get your computers from a different source. You maybe getting lemons.

I just want the damn MacBook Pro to get updated so everybody can start speculating on MacBook updates. I'm in the market for a MacBook but I don't want to buy yet fearing an update to the casing ...going to the Silver, and eventually black and colored aluminum. Not expecting that until May/June ...but, you never know. MBP's are nice, but overkill in my situation ...and so I wait.

Yeah the current MBP's have : MA985LLA/896LLA/897LLA so its makes sense that it starts with MA402LL/A . I still would want to know the source 4m where this numbers come 4m ( i mean evidence .. link etc)

What amazed me was that Amazon is offering massive discounts on the MBP's - no i am not talking abt the $150 rebate (they r still there) but price cuts .. The 17" costs 2559 (2799$) and a further 150$ rebate = 2409$ and similar is the case with 15" model ............ but so what ........... i wont start any rumor here as i had enough .... i hope it is this "tuesday" :apple: please me ..........

Just guessing but this may mean that the new MBP has some very significant changes to the point that they want to clear inventories real fast.

Just a guess.

We know about Apple's 14/15 day return policy, but from when?

We ordered one weeks ago, and I had to wait a week for it to be built, and then shipped from China.

Is it the date of order, shipping date, or day it's in my hands?

Any advice on how I should return mine if new ones do come out tomorrow?

if you are in the states: Correct me if I'm wrong, but i believe if you had a machine BTO, you cannot return it regardless of how many days. i looked into this when i thought about getting a mbp then returning it if a new one came out.
