I have to disagree with some of the postings here.

The MBP is a pro machine, it is about reasonable mobile power. Some of you are talking about it being thinner and lighter in the next version. I don't think so.

The power needs cooling this ussualy means moving the heat out without frying something. Remember also that video cards are also very hot even when undeclocked.

I expect the weigth and size will remain about the same until Feb/Mar 2009 when IMHO Apple is more likely to do some radical changes.

I hope I am wrong, but I do not think we will see a thinner and lighter MBP for a while.

The wider the computer, the thinner they look. The 17" looks real thin now. Apple might just make it a touch thinner, so they can say it is, but use the wedge and taper styling of the Air to accentuate that thinness even more.

The MB will be interesting in that if it looks too good, then maybe the MBA sales suffer? That's ok with me, cuz I want an aluminum MB with the led screen and touch pad of the Air. The price difference would allow me to get a separate bigger display, time machine and some necessary updated software. Apple gets all of my money anyway. Oh, I forgot about a 3G iPhone down the road.

wow. that was a brutal and unnecessary statement.

Brutal? Oh please, stop being so over-sensitive. It's true though, if we all thought like "Oh, well nothings wrong with (insert product here), so let's not improve it", then we wouldn't really get anywhere. Are you saying change is bad? The MBP needs a change. Something fresh looking (note: not necessarily thinner or lighter).

You guys have a very myopic view of Apple -- you see it from the standpoint of a few technology points.

You fail to see the superior build quality, the quality the brand exudes for business professionals, the OS and the quality of 3rd party matching components.

You might consider a broader perspective when it comes to evaluating Apple technology. The analysts do, and people who use their products to make a living, mostly do, and certainly the quality conscious do.

You are paying the premium for Apple's Research and Development and Build Quality. To achieve this build quality and style, Apple has to invest more in their product development, therefore, to achieve a respectable and industry leading return on that investment, the time between updates may not be on par with the "PC" industry standard. This is just good business for Apple and its shareholders, maybe not for potential customers who place a premium on the latest processor, screen technology, RAM, etc.

Dude, lay off the Apple kool-aid. I mean don't get me wrong, I'm all for paying the Apple premium when the time is right, but you can't tell me July 2007 technology with it's unchanged price is competitive in today's market, especially with such an imminent update.

We know about Apple's 14/15 day return policy, but from when?

We ordered one weeks ago, and I had to wait a week for it to be built, and then shipped from China.

Is it the date of order, shipping date, or day it's in my hands?

Any advice on how I should return mine if new ones do come out tomorrow?

to get a little bit back topic: "what is going to be released tomorrow?" (for those of you forgot already):

http://www.9to5mac.com/

is hosting an article about iMac processor updates tomorrow and maybe new mbps.

i think they are pretty much right with that:

If the mbps are updated tomorrow, we'll probably not see anything really big.
if the mbps are updated using an event (mid march?) there will probably be something big.

a lot of maybe's :D

build quality? where? in an anodized aluminum paint that burns, cracks, discolors and peals? in polished metal that scratches and get sticky fingerprints?

You have a vivid imagination, a poor grasp of spelling and mucky fingers, go wash your hands before touching anything as beautiful as a MBP.

Refresh times

Apple is in a bit of a pickle. If they update a product or drop the price too soon, like the iPhone, everyone screams bloody murder. If they wait, more screaming. Is 3 months the unwritten standard?

It's true though... An aluminium MBP scratches, a white MP gets dirty, on a black MB you can see lots of dust. I wonder which colour/material would have none of these disadvantages :/ Lets see how Apple surprises us :)

Are you kidding me? Since november there has been a rumor on this site practically EVERY week! what a tremendous score. My ass.

Yes, but most (if not all) of those rumors originated elsewhere (i.e., were first reported on another website). MR seems to be alone on this one, which is why I said what I said (that it will either be a great coup or a total embarrassment for MR).

People get so excited for an update lol. I also want Apple to drop prices in Canada, there pretty high for there computers.

All this complaining about MBP been super outdated, and people fail to realize that the current MBP was rated the Fastest Vista laptop. Not so outdated after all

ThinkPad's have the best material.

The ComputerWorld article is titled "New MacBook Pros to hurt MacBook Air sales?"

The point put forth in the article was summed up in the end:
"If Apple adds built-in 3G/WiMAX to the Pro package or outfits it with an energy-saving SSD/Hard drive hybrid model, it might be the deal-breaker for a lot of would-be MacBook Air customers. That possibility might be reason at least to wait and see if you are shoppting for a new MacBook Air/Pro."

Considering that the Air was just released at MacWorld perhaps it is in Apple's best interest to delay the release of the MBP as long as possible given that the Air is the top selling Mac at the Apple Store.

The price difference between the Air and the entry level Pro is only a few hundred dollars. ComputerWorld does make an interesting point especially if the Pro adds any new features.

do you want pictures of my PB? apple have already replaced my top case once! you know why, 'cause it's a defect! they have assumed that! you know why it is a defect? cause they are using anodized paint instead of anodizing the aluminum itself. but you won't understand that 'cause you don't know anything about it.

you should wash you hands before touching your keyboard for typing such a non-sense.

How long ago was that article again?

About 4 months ago, and your point is? The computer is not outdated by any standards.

Don't get me wrong apple need to revise their pricing when it comes to hardware specially after the few months have gone by. this has always been my main beef with Apple. But to say that the computer is outdated in terms of hardware performance is pure BS.
