Soon to be 3 and then 4.

Shame Nokia took advantage of that and Apple didn't. My point was, however, that there are plenty of places for the iPhone design to go. Don't pretend this square metal box shape is all there is.

But I digress. If everyone wants the same iPhone for 3+ years in a row, they appear to be in luck.

I don't think Apple cares if a phone ripped off their nano (unless the lumia poses a real a threat). And personally I like the design. Although I don't like the feel (It's polycarbonate but it's still not comfortable and it FEELS like plastic to me) of the Lumia.

But I will say this. The two toned back. Cannot be real. No. Just No.

I'm convinced this phone is coming out sooner rather than later. It all seems to be adding up. There have been multiple part leaks over the last month, there have been multiple reports about larger screen, different doc connector, etc from media with "sources in the supply chain", and we've seen this story before with past releases....parts always leak. In addition, what we are seeing despite all of the pointless criticism about how ugly it apparently is, is d@mn near identical to the iPhone 4 with subtle differences. I'm not sure how anyone can claim the pics on page 1 are ugly and not think the exact same thing about the iPhone 4/4s. It's still the sexiest phone ever created, and it seems like the most common sense approach would be to evolve that design, not abandon it.

In addition, if iOS 6 really is one of the stars of the WDC, it would only seem logical to have the flagship device there with it. Maybe its a tad hopeful, but I have a sneaking suspicion Apple is going to blow us away in the next few weeks and unveil more than most think they will.

So... Major iPhone leak happens on the day Samsung releases Galaxy SIII and all of a sudden people start suggesting that iPhone is going to be released earlier than expected (without having any facts to base this upon). Is this Apple's tactic to keep people from switching to SIII? One would thing that this would be too petty but then, knowing what we know about company founder, weirder things may happen.

WWDC IS A Possibility

As we learned in the past, you NEVER know with Apple. We honestly don't know how Tim Cook thinks (although at tonight's D10 Interview we might get an insight) and that means ANYTHING CAN happen. For all we know SJ told planned out to progress again with a June update. For everyone in denial, how in the world are you able to get inside their heads and think for them??? Although the past can be a helpful guide, it's not reliable- at all. And for all those who say "that's not a Steve job thing" how do you know? Either way I'm happy with the design and confident that Apple is STILL heading in the right direction despite the change of roles.

As much as I'd like to see it happen, there are certain facts in play here. An iPhone with a larger screen requires a new OS build, developers need time to prepare their apps for that build, and the new OS build has not been released yet.

If they did announce the iPhone, there'd still be a long wait for its actual release. If they can avoid the announcement, they probably will.

So I own my last iPhone..

Too Big

The new design is too big. I don't want to walk around with a tablet PC in my pocket!

Looks like Apple is once again using strategic rumor releases befor deciding on a final design.

haha, I love all the haters on here stating the iPhone's design has been crap from the original to the 4S, it's funny because of the many many many many millions Apple has sold states categorically otherwise..

I would like to have rumours about the camera the next iPhone will have.

I remember all the people who were saying "eww I hate this new design, this doesn't look like Apple" when the iPhone 4 was leaked. Hell, Steve even mentioned it in his keynote how people said it wasn't Apple-like.

But then we actually saw the real deal, and it was a jaw dropper. Apple products can never be fully appreciated until you've seen the final product.

It does look a little odd when we see only these parts. But I really like where they're going. I like the improvement over the 4 design, because the 4 is Apples best industrial design. And I really have a feeling that when we see the final product, it's going to look amazing, and everyone will be eating their words about how un-Apple it is.

How can you speak for Jony what design is "Apple?" I think he knows better than you, considering he IS Apple design. And when he says their current project is the best work they've ever done, I'm inclined to believe him.

Maybe the mis-matched panels are to represent the original length dimensions of the iPhone compared to the prototype shown in the picture?

It never even occurred to me the Galaxy SIII was released today...I personally think it's just coincidence. I still think a summer release would make just as much sense as an October. Just my .02

So no capacitive button?

Yet another hardware button that will break after 1 year of use?

Let's be Serious

I really hope I speak confidentally when I type this... but Apple being the prestige design company it is, would never let something like this hit shelves. It is so displeasing to the eye.

I like it and hope it's released SOON! :D

And the two tone back comments are comical after the original iPhone had the same. Two years ago we picked apart the breaks in the antenna... Let's all look at how many phones out there have two tone backs or to be slim they have slim bottoms and a hunch for the camera area. That and the fact that everyone throws it in a case to keep it protected that you'll never notice it.

Personally I hate the dock connector changing but if they're putting in louder speakers I'll learn to adapt. :)

I'm taking a wait and see attitude. Pictures of unfinished products never look as good as the final result. I'm still not convince though that this is the new design. Could be fake, could be one of many prototypes. I doubt Apple gets the design right the first time. And unless you prototype a lot how do you know when you've got it right?

Looks like this is the real deal then. I was expecting more of a change but i think this is nice enough tweak to the 4S design. Ill get one on launch day. Anyone that thinks this is a fake or prototype needs to recheck the iPhone 4 and 4S leaks...they all turned out to be correct.

I have inside knowledge that NFC is definitely in iPhone 5 :)

The glass/metal mix on the backside totally suggests a PS Vita style touch back to me. The design really would make sense that way and be in line with the form-follows-function aesthetics of former products.

The yellow on the aluminum of the white phone looks bad. Here is an image with some of the yellow removed.
