They are going to change the back... right?

They are going to change the back plate, right? This is just a prototype to see how it feels, and test functionality... right? They are going to replace it with a glass or metal back plate. Right?

Or maybe they'll paint it. They'll paint it? Right? ... Right? RIGHT?

All just my opinion but...

1. I think these are either fake (not made by apple), or a decoy (made by apple)

2. On the off chance this is real I am very surprised they didn't do a more dramatic redesign.

3. On the off chance this is real, I am very thankful to see the facetime camera moved to the center. I don't know why it hasn't been like that since day 1.

4. On the off chance this is real, perhaps the different colors on the back plate are do to some sort of quick access to the guts for the sake of tweaking a prototype?

I'm pretty excited to see what happens here- I've even more excited to see iOS 6.

Not likely in June.

If anything, Apple might refresh the iPhone 4S when they release the sixth-generation iPhone, presumably in September/October. The main change would be a 32-nm dual-core A5 chip to replace the 45-nm part in the current handset. The benefits would be slightly better battery performance, less heat, and cheaper component cost (to Apple).

Note that this would mirror Apple's move to change the iPad 2 to the 32-nm part when they announced the third-generation iPad.

The current Apple TV is using a 32-nm A5 chip with one core disabled, probably following the industry practice of "binning" to maximize yield from a wafer.
ok thanks, it seems so easy when someone politely just gives you the answer and doesn't tell you to read a 17 page long 3d;)
THANKS:apple:

This is not an official iPhone design.

The design has too many attributes that clash with Johnny Ive's previous products. Two being, it is cluttered and disproportionate.

Another red flag is the fact that the metal band on the black design is black and the one on the white is silver... An inconstant color scheme not only confuses consumers but could also cause problems in the supply chain. Take a look at the iPod Nano line and you'll notice that the parts that have color are the same throughout all color schemes.

Anytime you see a leak of a design that resembles another one of their products (iMac in this case), don't believe it.

This leak is a joke.
Best post in this thread.

Please look how rough the metal has been milled, no consumer product is finished like this. Also it seems the white version has been anodized like the black one, just not in the color white. This is possible. So judging by how rough the finish is on the inside this isn't a definite design. It is very possible that the final version will be anodized and painted in the color white.

I highly doubt these are anything more than prototype parts. As I've already said, I wouldn't even call these a sure thing for the final design UNLESS they're going back to a June/July launch, which seems unlikely.

Then, maybe I'm just hoping these are protos because I really would like to see a more radically different design. Most phones emulate Apple designs, and Apple would be going 3 gens with the same basic design with minor tweaks.

The dock connector is dead... Long live the dock connector

That don't look like a good old dock connector to me... Speaker and accessorie manufactures rejoice at the thought of all those new accessories they will get to sell you  looks pretty smart but!

Apple already had that. The Lumia is just an oversized blue iPad nano.

So you're saying this is all Apple's got?

I can think of two great designs that make the iPhone look like last years used watch:

More importantly....why on earth do you do cross country drives in a Miata? That has to be the most uncomfortable thing possible.

Quite the opposite, actually. The seats in my Miata are immensely more comfortable than the seats in any other car I've ever owned, including luxury brands. Besides, when we tour the country in the Miata we are constantly stopping and getting out the car to actually LOOK at stuff. We avoid the interstates whenever possible and drive the roads less traveled.

My favorite quote, by Charles Kuralt:

"Thanks to the Interstate Highway System, it is now possible to travel from coast to coast without seeing anything."

My personal thought is that if there is any more leaks in upcoming weeks regarding specs/processor (there haven't been any yet!!), then its surely a late june/july launch..

Do you really want a list of reasons? The fact that it would wobble like an egg every time you set it on a table is enough reason to treat it like the stupid joke it is.

While a boxy brick that you can't pick up from a table because of lack of any colouring is great right? this is just a mock up it wouldn't have to be that curvy...but I guess apple these days designs banal stuff for banal audiences...

That might also mean a silent CPU update to the hotpad, sorry the iPad.

New iPhone 5 for me for sure, Now, Which carrier?
Sprint, Verizon or AT&T?
I'm midway between Des Moines Iowa and Iowa City Iowa.
I will be using it for primarily calls but data as well.

Wow

I'm convinced this phone is coming out sooner rather than later. It all seems to be adding up. There have been multiple part leaks over the last month, there have been multiple reports about larger screen, different doc connector, etc from media with "sources in the supply chain", and we've seen this story before with past releases....parts always leak. In addition, what we are seeing despite all of the pointless criticism about how ugly it apparently is, is d@mn near identical to the iPhone 4 with subtle differences. I'm not sure how anyone can claim the pics on page 1 are ugly and not think the exact same thing about the iPhone 4/4s. It's still the sexiest phone ever created, and it seems like the most common sense approach would be to evolve that design, not abandon it.

In addition, if iOS 6 really is one of the stars of the WDC, it would only seem logical to have the flagship device there with it. Maybe its a tad hopeful, but I have a sneaking suspicion Apple is going to blow us away in the next few weeks and unveil more than most think they will.

Could be well be a decoy, I think you might be one to something unlike everyone here, because it certainly doesn't look like a bona fide fake. no accident it comes out on the Samsung s iii launch day. :). It better be a decoy btw, it's butt ugly

2 years is not "old" for a good design. Its the ones that have to be/get redone every year to look fresh that are no good.
Soon to be 3 and then 4.

Apple already had that. The Lumia is just an oversized blue iPad nano.

Shame Nokia took advantage of that and Apple didn't. My point was, however, that there are plenty of places for the iPhone design to go. Don't pretend this square metal box shape is all there is.

But I digress. If everyone wants the same iPhone for 3+ years in a row, they appear to be in luck.

The 4 design is two years old.

If this is what Apple puts forward form a hardware perspective, they're getting left in the dust by Samsung/HTC. Apple is approaching the point that they'd rather follow on the hardware side and cash their checks from the software/ecosystem side. How very Microsoft of them.

Samsung and HTC? I don't think I've seen one of those in a few months. But then again, I live in a an Apple heavy area.

If this is the new design, I'll probably get the 4S for once the price drops assuming there won't be a processor upgrade or map exclusive. I really like my 4. I don't want a sixth row of icons.

Wimping out has nothing to do with it. I have a custom dock installation in my Mazda Miata. My wife and I are retired and we do a lot of extended traveling in the Miata (we did Route 66 - Chicago to LA last year). While traveling, the iPhone not only serves as a music jukebox, but as a navigational aid and a weather station. When traveling the country in the Miata, the iPhone is just as important to me as a speedometer and a gas gauge. Altering my custom dock installation would be a pain in the butt. It could be months or years before a company like Dension introduced a new model with integrated dock connector.

In addition, I dock my iPhone with my A/V receiver and I've got two "boom boxes" that I regularly dock my iPhone to. These would all have to be replaced or I'd have to use dock adapters (not an ideal solution).

Yeah, I agree. I was about to buy one of these

http://store.apple.com/ca/product/H7643VC/A

Not anymore. At least not until I hear more about this new connector.

I have a feeling they will announce this in WWDC. The part leaks are too early for an October launch.

And from the design it looks like an easier screen change in case of cracked screens.

I agree. Parts like these are on the scene way to early to wait for the fall. I could be wrong but we didn't see leaks like this until the fall of last year on the 4S.

With the leaks that happened with the iPhone 4 perhaps there are phones being used for testing that have a fake design (aesthetically) just on the off chance it gets left in a bar again.
