iPhone 4 Superimposed over iPhone 5

iphone4over5.jpg

Assuming the two phones are the same dimensions, the screen is definitely larger and the bezel smaller. It looks to be about 4 inches. It's hard to tell if the aspect ratios are the same, although this image suggests the 5's screen might be slightly taller, yet not a whole row of icons taller.

I used a skew tool to overlay the phone, not a perspective tool, so it might be a little off.

Apple better do something good with the next iPhone, and quick. If they don't, the competition is going to come in and destroy them. Far better rival phones are popping up left and right, such as the Samsung Galaxy 3. The galaxy s3 has faster mobile networking through LTE support, a far faster quad core CPU, a better GPU, double the ram, a larger battery, a higher resolution and larger screen, better wifi support with access to 5ghz bands, better front and rear cameras, NFC support, an SD slot that will allow up to 128Gb of memory, etc... Why any one would buy any iPhone at this point is a mystery.

Everything we have seen up until now would indicate the new iPhone will be LTE, probably have increased internals, possibly camera upgrades..makes me wonder if you've been following the iPhone for a while. Just like Samsung, Apple upgrades the internals every year and this year will not be different. Personally, I think the black one looks awesome, and as long as it has LTE and a slightly larger screen, I'll be in line to buy one day 1. Have my dev account up to date as well and can't wait to test drive iOS6. It's a good time of year to be an Apple fanboy :)

Notice that the band is sloped on the backside, but flat on the front side (like the 4S). Kinda lame in my opinion, it should be all flat or all rounded. :/

Do I recall correctly that there was some stuff reported recently about how Apple makes prototypes in a fairly expensive manner by having runs of the prototypes properly built in the factories in China before being sent back for testing to be basically played with to see how the real, finished product will look and feel?

If that's the case, having parts leaked from manufacturing partners wouldn't necessarily imply the final product but might be merely one of a few hundred of a prototype. That would explain the differences in finish accross these leaked parts.

Here's my theory. This will be released at WWDC 2012 running an updated version of iOS5 that allows for a 5th row of icons. Then apple will announce iOS6 which will launch on all platforms in fall at witch point developers will have made a wide range of new apps for the phone which they will learn about at WWDC 2012. This way the transition to the new app store in iOS6 will be less fragmented and all apps will work on all devises because they will be designed to do so. We will also see all the mew macs too accompanied by Mountain Lion. And of course as always there will be no iPad mini that's never happening face it!

I dont like the bottom part of the phone, especially headphone/microphone grills. Blah, hope its not final version.

You are looking at it backwards, instead of saying "why is the center made of metal?" which is obviously for structural support when you look at the internal pictures. You need to think "why are the top and bottom plastic?" In which case you can surmise that it's for the camera hole and continuity with the front panel.

It's definitely a shame that it's not solid metal and the camera pokes through the metal. If you want to guess what Ive's was doing, then try to guess that reason.

The plastic is for bluetooth and whatever other antennas that are not in the band. See the aluminium backed iPad or the original iPhone for reference (the WiFi iPad keeps all its antennas behind the plastic Apple logo).

I have a feeling they will announce this in WWDC. The part leaks are too early for an October launch.

And from the design it looks like an easier screen change in case of cracked screens.

I'd be very surprised if they launch this in June. The iPhone 4S is still selling very well and you get the most profit return by making products have a long shelf life. Also just think how many people that buy an iPhone 4S from now until the launch date will want to upgrade again? That is a lot of sales and big money. If I were running Apple I'd make the 4S last until just about Christmas and then drop the new one for full effect. People will go completely crazy!!!

Looks like quite solid theory tho.

I trust you, Apple. Make it happen!

omg, are u kidding right?:)

What?! It's the SAME design.

did u notice the bottom change? Almost the same - I like the current desing, and I really dislike the mockups.

As usual I will wait to see the final product as everyone focuses on the shell of the phone which is important. But what is on the inside and how it works is what is usually missed and turns out to be the draw to the iPhone more than the form factor. Unless apple goes with a Tony Stark like transparent phone with floating interface I have a feeling the form factor will remain the same if not see minor changes over time.

That's what I figured, but I'm not positive about the 4S. Can you confirm the 4S transmits bluetooth etc through the back glass?

Yeah this must be the new iPhone.. This is way too detailed to be a fake.

It looks like a winner, I also think it's unibody now, the grooves on the inside suggest the case was made that way. The glass parts are obviously windows for the antennas.

I don't really like the black finish on the metal band, I kind of like the silver around my black iPhone 4. If it's like this I will probably go for the white one for the first time ever. I don't like a white bezel but there's hardly any bezel left anyway :)

Actually I probably will go for the black, and just put up with the black finish (but yuck)

So when can they take my money :p

The front like this will look stunning in white, but I can't stand the black back.
Reminds me of when they went a step backwards from getting better in the design principles when removing iPod Classic's buttons from the wheel for a generation some years back.
I hope this isn't it.

Launch iPhone w/o newest version of iOS? I don't buy your theory.

The GS3 is competing against the 4S (now 7 months old). The new iPhone will blow the GS3 out of the water.

This. And as I mentioned earlier the photos of the two white phones aren't the same. Plus in the second photo it's clearly an unfinished design. Apple is big on making lots of physical prototypes. Doesn't mean it's what the final design will be.

At least these photos show that Apple is not simply going to elongate the screen - it is pretty obvious that the screen is getting wider as well as taller. Nice.

I was really looking forward to a new tapered design. Seems like Apple is sticking to the same look over and over on all their products...

I am glad it is not tapered. Having used both the 3Gs and 4s, I found the 4s much easier to handle and grip, it also feels more secure in your hand as it won't slip.

That has got to be the ugliest iPhone ever! WTF is going on with that different coloured band on the back? Why is it all shiny on the antenna?
Jeez did Ive let the interns do this one!
