There is a way of getting better battery life
Performance...get a life!!!!

----------

I'm referring to 5s only

You should get a life too instead of lurking in some forum in internet telling people to get a life

I'm with lars on this one.
If I bought a phone based on seeing Apple's iPhone adverts, I wouldn't think it was a device made for making calls.
How many phone calls feature in Appple's adverts?

Even Samsung adverts hardly show phone calls - just Apple bashing lol

The iPhone 5 does, no reason the 6 shouldn't.

So I decided to restore, and set-up as new.
Installed a few apps, but not many.
Unplugged at 9:20am (guesstimate..), it's now 13:50.
Brightness as I type is 50%, but have had it lower most of the day.
3:05 usage, 4:27 standby, 4% battery remaining.

This could just be because it's the first day it's been unplugged since restoring as new - possibly a bit of battery % desync happening.
I watched 5-10 minutes of video streaming; used safari to check Facebook and other links from there; watched a few short videos on Facebook Safari; played a bit of Swing Copter (flappy bird creator's new app); had a 2 minute go of Circle the dot (then deleted it, cos I "completed" it); downloaded 3 apps; watched about 10 minutes worth of video on VLC (2 x 2 minute long clips, with a bit of scrubbing); sent a fair few iMessages; used Bluetooth hotspot for a few minutes to download an app and go through emails on my iPad.
I think that's about it.
I'm now on 2%.
Attached a photo. 1%. Posting quick so I don't lose this lol

Edit to add:
I've left everything switched on as default (system services). Did notice a geofence going on - was a reminder, that I've now switched location off for. Battery drained just as quick after.
Restored last night, so contacts, mail, and whatever else, would have downloaded on wifi overnight.

Of course, I'll be charging back up to 100% once it switches off, and see what second charge gives me.

So, my point is.. If this is what the current iPhone gives me in my situation (how and where I use it. And I know this is an extreme case, it's never been quite this bad before, other than using GPS to navigate a journey), then I'd hope the announcement claims a longer battery life.

And this isn't me Apple bashing, just stating my situation.
The Samsung S4 wasn't any better. About the same, but worse most of the time.

Edit:
It went off at 3:25 usage.

because iPod touch's and iPads and Macbooks exist. IF the iPhone's primary existance wasnt to make calls then we WOULD NOT still have the name PHONE in it, or ANY radio tower antennae, or even bother selling anything besides a touch and pod. iPHONE main purpose = PHONE CALLS! Jesus, you people are a little slow, its still called a phone, smart and very smart indeed however; phone.

No. Simply no. It was the first and foremost priority of the Nokia 3210. Not the iPhone or any other smartphone as we know them today.

no, im right, youre wrong. when the iPhone loses the name PHONE in it. ill be wrong. until then. THE IPHONE IS AND FOREVER WILL BE A PHONE.

you people are hilarious. i love this forum. thank you for the laughs, though.

After your same logic, the iPod Touch primary existence is to play mp3s like my year 2001 iPod - because it shares the same name ... Don't be ridiculous, just because the iPhone (of course) is called a "Phone" in its brand name, the phone function only is ONE of many and with the screen getting bigger for the second time and definitely with all the apps, it's not the primary one anymore. (Even wasn't on the original 2007 iPhone, in my opinion.)

So because the Samsung GALAXY S5 has GALAXY in it's name, and never has been called anything to do with "phone", does that mean one of it's main uses is to float some solar systems in?
Or an iPod is seed carrier because it wasn't called iPlayMusic?
This discussion has been had on these forums many times before - should we really call them a smart "phone" any more, because they're intended for so much more than that.
I can probably count no more than 10 phonecalls that I've made on the 5S since getting it.
Slow people make me laugh - stop labelling things by their name and get with the times ;-)

After your same logic, the iPod Touch primary existence is to play mp3s and nothing else.

is this serious?

yes. that and games. but it's original function is music. hence IPOD. it's just a nicer version that can do more things than the original. but standard functions haven't changed. lmao wow

no. it's made for phone calls. and texts. just because it has extra features doesn't mean the main function is different. are you serious? so Starbucks main function is only those new fancy frapps? not standard coffe? or Krispy Kreme can only sell chocolate iced sprinkled even though te main doughnut is glazes? new features do not change the function of A CELL PHONE.

enjoy trolling. I win.

I was pointing out what you did, about it having PHONE in its name..

A device's main use is whatever a person buys it for...

iPhone 6 NEEDS to have all day battery. I am tired of charging the iPhone 5s during the day.

Sounds like you NEED to buy a Mophie :) I don't want a huge battery making my phone heavy and bulky. Most people have access to electrical outlets at home or work and we have car chargers. Where are you that you aren't around an electrical outlet or able to charge in the car for a whole day? Heavy users really should have a Mophie or a 2500 MAH portable charger, problem solved.

I bought a few of those portable battery chargers. One for myself when I'm out and about, and the rest for friends who also have iPhones and poor battery life.
The ones I got, go from flat to about 70% - not bad!

That is not normal. There is probably something wrong with your phone.

Yep. This is a bit too much an extreme drainage. My suspicion is faulty cell radio. I noticed a drop of 3% in 6 minutes whilst using safari on mobile data, 4 bars/dots. Seemed a little excessive.
My second charge hit 5:14, with a little bit of wifi usage that got me about 5 hours.

On the Third charge (current charge), I'm on 2:52, and 36%. Projecting about 4:30 total usage. Not particularly heavy usage either - and keep turning brightness down.

Apple are ringing me tomorrow to see how I've gone since ringing them, so will see what they say.
They did the simple diagnostics and battery health was ok.

"Original function" (iPod anno 2001) doesn't equal primary function today (iPod Touch 2014). If we really have to do this stupid ranking for our discussion (and unfortunately we have to, as you insist to define the primary purpose of the "iPhone" as using it to make telephone calls, because "hey, it's called a PHONE, stupid, slow people!" or whatever): The primary functions of the iPod Touch today are using apps / play games on it and surfing the Internet / sending What's App messages etc. Listening to music comes behind it for most of the people. So laugh your ass off as long as you want to ...
