In the screenshot, the 9 in iTunes 9 doesn't look like Myriad Pro to me.
Good observation - guess what? You're right! The 9 typed here appears to be from Lucida Grande rather than Myriad Pro Semibold. Which is, of course, a problem for the credibility of these screenshots.

It should also be worth noting that the version string doesn't look right - seems to be missing the proper OS X aliasing, and isn't the version string presented in Lucida Grande Bold?

Portal of Power

iTunes is certainly becoming THEE media portal!

Not to mention social networking with geo-tagging and and perhaps even extension like mapping..

I hope so; I'd be happy if it became the tool to use for media; both DVD Player and Front Row are now only in 32bit so I wonder whether both functions are going to be rolled into iTunes given that it seems like duplication having it as a separate application.

Even if there is a DVD ripper, which I doubt, it's unlikely to be of the quality of RipIt or Mac DVD Ripper Pro.

Flac support NOW!

title says it all. They can put whatever they want into iTunes, but better codec support is the only thing that is keeping me from not using iTunes

When inserting a DVD both iTunes and iDVD opened. Upon closing iDVD the DVD I had inserted 'The Simpsons Movie' was displayed in the devices section. The main play button at the top was only clickable when a certain clip was selected. The entire contents of the DVD was shown and not just the main movie or individual chapters. This included dvd extras and thise small videos you get at the start of films theat advertise trailers or show the studiops logo who mad ethe film. Using the 'Preview Selected' button I was able to preview a selected clip of the DVD before choosing which parts to import by clicking the 'Import DVD' button.

Seriously, what is this? Why would a DVD authoring app (which iDVD is) open when you insert a movie DVD? I would understand if it was an empty DVD, but something is telling me that you're just making this up...

It's only illegal if the Studios don't agree to license it. If the studios grant Apple the license to do so, I'm sure it will be DMR'd by iTunes (I call it "rip-and-encrypt"). This could benefit the Apple TV since it may push more sales of the device (and there's a rumor of an update for it, too). Remember, the Apple TV is an iPod for your television. I suspect that by now the Studios are convinced that Fair Play for video is as unbreakable as anything since no one has ever defeated it for iTS video downloads. It's a hell of a lot better than anything the Studios have come up with.

I'm sure it wouldn't matter to those of us who already rip our DVDs (and perhaps even Blu-rays), but this would provide for the masses the ability to get their DVD library to their Apple TV (and other household computers and iPods).

This is one of those features Apple needs in iTunes in order for the Apple TV to sell better. I would probably still use Handbrake, as I doubt Apple will have better options, especially if the chapters cannot be named, but it is great for the everyday user.
